🤎🤍Ziggy🤍🤎

We welcome this beautiful girl to our pack.🐶

Ziggy is currently with us for a daily morning walk, whilst her lovely owner is unfortunately out of action.❤️‍🩹

She has fit right in with us all and has already made lots more new furry friends.🐾

Her and Whisper have loved burning some energy, racing around the fields playing chase.💨⚡️

We look forward to seeing Ziggy again this week.🥰

Life recently ….🦮🐶🐾🍂🍁🥾

Shoutout to handsome Hugo this week who has been fantastic in his recent socialisation walks with us.👏

He has discovered the fresh water spa and has been having lots of positive experiences in new environments, taking them all in his stride. 🐾

Hugo has got over his fear of traffic too!🚗

Finally, Hugo has made a special bond with fellow rescue Dexter who has been a great role model in their meetings together🐺 (pic number 3).

Well done Hugo! 🏆

🐶Murphy🐶

A short while ago we had gorgeous Murphy in for his first behavioural session.🐾

Murphy suffers with separation anxiety, reactivity on walks and in the house and is abit tooooo food motivated.😋

We worked on setting boundaries, techniques for calming his reactivity in the house and started work on his separation anxiety.🙌🏻

This little chap is just at the start of his journey but with hard work, consistency and positive reinforcement - I have full faith he will achieve success.📈

We have had a great week this week, despite the weather on a couple days.☔️🙄😅

The soggy pups enjoyed a blast at our favourite place 💨whilst Stan and Toby had a sunbathe in the last of the summer sun.🐶☀️

Sadly we had our last walk with beautiful Betty as she is moving to a new postcode.📍 Betty has been a delight to walk and has come on so far during our time together, I’m sure her friends will miss her company lots but we wish her and her family all the best.💕

We look forward to another week with more pups and hopefully some drier weather!😆🦮🐾🦴🐶

🐶HUGO🐶

Hugo is an Olde English Bulldog whom surprisingly adores water. 💦

We are thoroughly enjoying getting to know this lad on our daily walks. 🥾 Hugo is a rescue so therefore we don’t know much about him. So far he has been an absolute star with everything he’s been faced with.👏🏻

We can’t wait for more walks with Hugo and to learn more about this lovley boy.🐾🥰

How bloomin beautiful is this little chap!🤩

Ren is just 18wks old and has been an absolute gem on our first walk today with his new pals.👏🏻

We are super excited to watch this boy grow and progress throughout our upcoming weekly walks. We feel very lucky to be able to be on these wonderful journeys with young pups, can’t wait to see more of him.🐶🐾🥰

This last week I have had several clients working though issues that are at least partly caused by ‘ The Tennis Ball Launcher’ or flanger, wanger, flingy thingy or whatever it is you call it.

Throwing a ball is something that many if not all pet dogs owners engage in at some point, if not on a regular basis.

Quite rightly, concerns within the veterinary and behavioural professions have been raised about the mental and physical impact the launcher can have on dogs.

For me, it’s the levels of excitement and arousal these games create. The increased arousal can involve increased heart rate and adrenaline levels. Adrenaline itself should be released in short bursts, such as during a one off during a chase , but repeated ‘throw it, chase it, catch it means Adrenalin is released for much longer periods.

Repetitive chasing in this way is not a natural behaviour for any dog.

This increase of Adrenalin in turn causes an increase in cortisol levels, and can lead to ‘frantic’ behaviours as a result of reduced impulse control and frustration tolerance. Cortisol levels take a good few days days to return to normal.

Adrenaline and cortisol both play a role in the regulation of behaviour. Promoting increased production of both over a long term period can trigger problematic and behaviours. No ‘off switch’, lack of frustration tolerance and general erratically behaviour.

Due to this ( and because they are being conditioned to behave in a certain way to get their ‘reward’ )you may find your dog plays ‘keep away’ and wants to be ahead of you to the distance where they usually have their ball thrown.

They will possibly struggle to walk beside you ( want to be ahead of you)

They cannot calm down or exhibit any self control around a ball or in the place you usually throw it.

If the potential behavioural issues are not enough to help you ditch the ball thrower, the physical impact of using one can be immense.

High speed impact, uncontrolled twists and turns, rotatory force on joints etc can cause a multitude of injuries. Let’s be honest, how many times is the dog even ‘warmed up’ before embarking on such vigorous exercise?

There is soooo much more you can do with a ball or toy to work your dog mentally and physically. You can, if needed use them in certain situations if your dog is happy to wait calmly by your side. However you may find they need a ball detox for a few weeks prior to using it in a new way ☺️
