Hi friends! It’s been a while. I hope you’re doing well 🩷 I’ve decided to open up some weekday lunchtime slots for dog walking. This will be in the Denes area of Darlington only. Please share/spread the word and/or get in touch if this is something you are interested in. I look forward to meeting some new companions 🐾

Hello friends and loyal clients, I have a sad announcement to make. Unfortunately I have had to make the decision to close my business until further notice. I simply cannot continue to put so much mental and physical energy into a job that produces such little profit, especially with the cost of living crisis and my not-so great health.

I am ever so grateful for all of the support you have given me and for all of the wonderful dogs, cats, rabbits and fluffy companions I have made over the past six years.

This may not end up being a permanent closure but in the meantime I’m going to have to find myself a new job and up my number of monthly gigs so that I can pay my bills. I will be messaging all of my customers individually to organise final walks so that you have the chance to find new walkers before Christmas.

This business has saved my life on more than one occasion and I am so proud of what a lovely little thing I have built, with heaps of help from my family, friends and customers.

Here’s to a fresh, and hopefully exciting, new leaf.

Firstly, look how cute she is! ♥️
Secondly, beginning 1st December, prices will be increasing from £10 to £12 an hour for dog walks. Rising cost of living is hitting hard and I have never raised my prices in the six years I have been running my business, so Sadie and I would really appreciate your support and understanding. Thanks so much 🐾

The idea of being attached to someone is incredibly scary, it’s the ultimate test in trust.

We play this trust game everyday, so it’s important to show our dogs that even though we are attached to them, they still have choices. That a lead means teamwork not control.

Keep any eye out for signs below of dehydration. If you are struggling to get your dog to drink, try a small capful of milk in the water or perhaps some cooled stock

Dear Mum and Dad,

Let me stay home. It's too hot for me to walk and run next to you. But because I am a loyal dog, I often go beyond my limits. So I walk and run beside you, standing still if I have to.
And feel my paws burn.
I'm looking at you for a moment, but you do not understand. Because in a little over 5 minutes we're at the cool puddle, right? But those little 5 minutes
can be fatal to me. Because I sweat through my paws, and in this heat I just cannot get rid of the sweat. My whole body is boiling, but I keep going
And then I end up on the tarmac. In the heat and in the sun. With my tongue out of my mouth and my eyes flashing in the sun. My paws are burning, my
tongue is dry and my head is pounding in the heat that my body cannot get rid of…

Instead, let me stay at home where I can enjoy the sun, with a large bowl of cool water, somewhere in the shade. And best of all like in a cool area with grass.

❌ RAPESEED! ❌

It’s that time of year again where farmers fields have blossomed into pretty yellow flowers, these plants are called rapeseed. Although it may be tempting to place your dog in the mist to take a scenic photo, please avoid this at all costs!

Rapeseed is extremely poisonous for dogs, especially in highly sensitive canines.

Rapeseed is listed by Dogs Trust as toxic to our dogs if ingested and can cause symptoms such as:

❌ Hemolytic Anemia
❌ Blindness
❌ Damaged Nervous System
❌ Digestive Disorders
❌ Breathing Problems

Even walking through these fields should be avoided! In June 2019, a dog has been reported to suffer from severe open wounds after running through a crop of rapeseed.

Please seek immediate veterinary attention if your dog shows any signs of rapeseed poisoning!

Its ok to say NO.

If someone wants to pat your dog but you are unsure, be your dogs advocate and just say "No sorry".

Too many people think they have the right to pat every dog they see, especially little dogs. This can cause dog owners/parents to feel feel pressure to allow patting.
Your dog needs to trust that you will make good decisions with ALL interactions they have with others, and if there is a negative experience... it can affect your dog for a long time.

If your dog is just learning socialisation skills or is in training, its ok to say no to anyone wanting to pat your dog. In fact at any time, you can just say "No sorry" you don't have to explain further.

Dogs need repeated positive interactions to build up their confidence and learn how to interact appropriately and they mostly learn this from you. Control the interactions your dog has with others while its learning. Set your dog up for success by controlling situations it has with others initially.

This photo shows an extremely uncomfortable dog, and forcing dogs into uncomfortable situations while socialising can have the exact opposite effect to what you want to achieve.

It is with a very heavy heart that I am sharing the news that precious little Oscar passed away just before Christmas. Our hearts always lit up when we knew we had this gorgeous, cuddly, funny man booked in our diary. I know that many of my friends were able to meet Oscar over the years and will be heartbroken to hear of his passing. But he will belong in our hearts and happy memories forever. We all wish Melanie, David, Naomi and family lots of healing power during this time as we remember Oscar’s warmth and lovely quirks. Please join us in sending Oscar’s family lots of love. DOG owners have been urged to avoid beaches in the region after becoming "inundated" with pets falling ill.
