** CAT MICROCHIPPING **

It will be compulsory for cats to be microchipped from 10th June 2024.
These new rules mean kittens must have a microchip implanted before they are 20 weeks of age.

I would like to nominate our entire reception team for National Reception Appreciation Day on 8th May 2024.

Headed up by Lania, our amazing Client Care Manager, the team work hard day in and day out to provide a great service to our clients and their pets.

They are knowledgeable, keen to learn more within their roles and provide a warm and friendly welcome to our clients and external visitors. They work well as individuals and as a team.

We value them immensely as Vets and Nurses. They help to ensure our day runs as smoothly as possible and our team wouldn't be the team it is without them!

Did you know 1st May 2024 marks not only the start of Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month but also the start of Feline Hypertension Awareness Month.

1 in 5 cats over the age of 9 suffer with Hypertension (high blood pressure). Untreated hypertension can cause damage to vital organs such as the kidneys, heart and eyes in older cats.

Clinical signs of hypertension generally aren't detected until later on in the disease so the sooner cats over the age of 9 start having regular checks to check their pressures the better.

The International School of Feline Medicine (ISFM) has categorised feline patients into the following brackets: Mature (7-11 years of age), Senior (11-15 years of age) and Super Senior (15 years and over), therefore any cat from the age of 7 years old would be eligible for a blood pressure check.

If your cat is 7 years old and over and they have no health concerns, you can book in with our Registered Veterinary Nurses for a discounted Feline Health Screen which includes:

• Physical exam (with a qualified nurse)
• Complete clinical history (with a qualified nurse)
• Biochemistry - including thyroid
• Haematology
• Urine test strip
• Urine specific gravity
• Blood pressure

This package costs £85 and offers a considerable saving of £214.

Preventative health screening can aid early detection of certain diseases such as Chronic Kidney Failure, Hyperthyroidism and Diabetes Mellitus.

When walking your dog in the dark, make sure that both you and your dog are visible to others. For owners, this means avoiding dark clothing and wearing reflective safety gear such as a vest, strap, or wristband. There are several options for keeping your dog visible in the dark, such as a reflective jacket, collar, lead, harness, or even an LED light-up safety necklace. Dogs with darker fur are more difficult to see in the dark. However, even if you have a lighter coloured dog, you should still make sure your dog can be seen in the dark!
