After 2 short months of rehab Duncan has started ridden work , what a super star he was. It has been and will continue to be a long road but reaching this point alone is such an achievement and his owners are over the moon 🙌🏼

Duncan has been in on boxrest with me since early march after he sustained an injury in the field.

Duncan’s recovery from surgery to now has been phenomenal , he really is the perfect patient and the injury is healing well.

He had lots of pats and plenty of snacks on his ride 🤩

⭐️Why are maintenance treatments so important?⭐️

Whatever level of work a horse is in, maintenance sessions are essential for some of the following :

✅Maintaining performance.
✅Identifying niggles early, before they become bigger problems.
✅Reducing the risk of injury.
✅Maintaining joint range of movement and suppleness.

Even if your horse is feeling good, regular sessions are key to maintaining that.

Changes you may notice:
❌Stiff or harder to work on one rein.
❌Reluctant to work correctly.
❌Struggling with correct canter leads.
❌knocking or refusing fences.
❌Change in performance.
❌Unusual behaviour.

Name a better way to have your treatment than under heated lamps? 🔥

Not only do solariums/heated lamps keep your horses warm whilst having their treatment , they aid warming of the muscles that would usually be less pliable and take more working in on a chilly day

It’s not always horses having a treatment ⬇️

Did you know I am also qualified to treat humans too!

This poor lady was having real shoulder trouble and asked me if I could help whilst I was treating the horses on the yard.
Kinesiology tape is a wonderful thing ⭐️

As owners sometimes we need some TLC too. Appointments available and discounts applied when two appointments (Horse&Human) are combined.

‼️Important Client Notice ‼️

Unfortunately I have been scheduled in for an emergency operation on the 2nd November, meaning I’m going to be out of action for a period of time.👎🏼

Please note :
- All clients already in the diary will be rearranged with new appointments before the 2nd of November.
- I will not be taking any other bookings untill I return to work.
- For my regular clients I am working on providing a number of alternative options; re schooling/lessons/yard work and I will be in touch with those options very soon.

I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and I will do my very best to rearrange or provide alternative options to prevent as much disruption as possible. I will of course be back to work as soon as I possibly can be.

As always thankyou for your understanding.

⭐️Therapeutic ultrasound⭐️

Therapeutic ultrasound is a mild heating noninvasive modality used as a treatment to exert thermal, mechanical, and chemical effects on treated tissues to enhance and facilitate healing to promote tissue healing or can be used before stretching tight or adhered structures.

Inaudible sound waves are absorbed primarily by collagen-rich connective tissues such as:
💥Ligaments
💥Tendons
💥Fascia
💥Scar tissue

Ailments such as:
💥Tendon or ligament injuries,
💥Muscle spasms or tearing
💥Joint swelling
💥Open wounds
💥Even mild arthritis
can benefit from therapeutic ultrasound

⭐️Thermal mode (continuous)has the ability to increase tissue temperatures, and is ideal for pre-stretching preparation of tight tissues.

⭐️Nonthermal (pulsed) effects are ideal for the promotion of tissue healing and for decreasing inflammation.

Benefits:
💥Increased collagen elasticity in tendons, joint capsules and scar tissue.

💥Increased motor and sensory nerve conduction velocities, helping to reduce pain.

💥Altered contractive activity to skeletal muscle, reducing muscle spasm.

💥Diminished muscle spindle activity, another factor in reducing muscle spasm.

💥Increased blood flow, which can bring healing factors to the site of the injury and speed up local metabolism

💥Increase the stretch in fibrous tissues which can help increase range of motion around a joint.

What can therapeutic ultrasound aid :

🔶Tendon Extension

🔶Scar Tissues

🔶Pain relief

🔶Muscle Spasm relaxation

🔶Reduction Of Edema (swelling)

🔶Wound Healing

If you would like to discuss how therapeutic ultrasound could help your horse
please do get in touch

🍁🍂Hind end soreness🍁🍂

I am treating many horses with ‘ hind issues’ at the moment and have found that these problems are predominately stemming from the psoas and groin muscles.

Psoas:
It’s often assumed that the psoas just consists of one muscle when in fact it's called the iliopsoas and consists of three muscles:
✅psoas major
✅psoas minor
✅iliacus
These are a meaty group of muscles which connections resonate throughout the body.

Groin:
The horses groin muscles are made up of:
✅The adductor
✅sartorius
✅grascillis
✅The medial aspect of the semimembranosus.

It’s massively important to evaluate the groin/psoas muscles alongside the rest of the body.
These particular areas are super sensitive and horses do not usually take likely to having them treated.
I use a range of different techniques to make sure horses are as happy & comfortable as possible.

Factors that effect these muscles this time of the year:
🍂- Hard ground
🍂- Uneven terrain
🍂- Poor muscle strength
🍂- Inadequate workload

This chap⬇️ is a hunter and was very reactive behind as well as being reluctant to stand still on the field when doing his job.
✅ After just one treatment his owner has noticed a huge change but he will need regular treatments to ensure he’s in top condition.

⭐️Difficult horses ⭐️

I have a number of clients that I have been to that are worried about their horses reaction to treatment.

Normally horses show a number signs of evasion a few being:
Kicking , pulling back , biting.

This is exactly why I offer an initial consultation and treatment.

Horses that show the above behaviours are normally trying to tell us something. The behaviours sometimes stem from pain, just like this chap Burt ⬇️
Burt had a number of professionals out to him but his owner felt they did not manage to treat the stem of his problems being his cranial area.

When I took my static assessment on Burt it was evident he had a lot going on in the cranial area and this was causing problems elsewhere.
When I came to treat Burt his invasion tactic was to pull back and run backwards , with time , patience and persistence I was able to treat him and get him feeling a lot better
The picture below is his second treatment with me .. he was so relaxed and took a lot from his treatment , he showed no evasion tactics this time round.

Sometimes horses just need time , patience and a gentle hand.

✅When wanting to book your horses in, do not worry about invasion behaviours or that your horse may be unable to be treated - Just make sure you are choosing the right professional that suits your horse.

⭐️Hindlimb abduction stretch ⭐️

This is a passive stretch where the horses hindlimb is stretched forward and under the horse, in front of the opposite hindlimb

⭐️ The aim of the hindlimb adduction stretch is to stretch the hip extension and stifle flexion muscle groups, as well hip rotator muscles

This stretch is good for:
✅Stretching muscles involved with lateral work
✅Stretching out the muscles to help alleviate stiffness
✅Increasing stride length
✅Helping to develop proprioception

‼️Stretches, such as the hindlimb abduction stretch, should be carried out after exercise and held for 7-10 seconds.

✅For more information on how to carry out stretches please get in contact

⭐️Dynamic assessment⭐️

Why do I ask for a trot up ?

what I look out for when your horses walk and trot towards and away from me:

⭐️Symmetry of movement
⭐️Length of stride
⭐️Stride length
⭐️Foot placement
⭐️Tail position
⭐️Pelvic swing
⭐️Head & neck stability
⭐️Shoulder mobility
⭐️The way the horse turns

All of the above is taken to account along with the static assessment to allow me to carry out treatment to best suit your horses ✅

⭐️Pedro⭐️

Wow what a transformation!

I have treated this horse on 3 occassions over a 7 week period. This transformation isn’t a one person job and has taken a multidisciplinary team to get these results.

Pedro arrived with his new owner and needed a lot of love , care and attention to help him get back on his feet and feeling well.

As you can see from the first photo their are obvious signs he needed some help:
🛑A dull coat
🛑Bad posture
🛑Tight , sore skin
🛑Little muscle tone
🛑Little top line
🛑Reluctant to stand square

It is always a pleasure to work with new clients and have the opportunity to make a difference and to be able to see such transformations. This makes my job so rewarding 🙌

✅Pedro is a happier boy and is looking and feeling much better

One of my regular clients has a new addition -
A 6yo tb mare off the track 🐎 .

This lovely mare had lots of work done today which included:
✅Massage
✅Manipulation
✅Facial release
✅mobilisation and stretching

I personally find treating thoroughbreds can be very different to treating other breeds of horses:
🔵They are a lot more superficially sensitive.
🔵Sometimes they do have ongoing conditions from their career that need to be maintained.

My ‘maintenance package’ allows me to identify any bodily changes as well as keeping on top of any niggles in your horses ➡️ this is a cost effective way to keep your horse on a regular treatment schedule and in tip top condition ✅

⭐️A snippet of todays treatment for chip⭐️

Today was chips pre race treatment before he does a 160km in 3 days time.

I see chip pretty much every 2 weeks
This allows me to:
⭐️Identify his body patterns pre and post run ⭐️Have a baseline to treat from
⭐️Identify if there is anything out of the ordinary

✅His post race treatment is booked in to keep him in top shape and aid his recovery.

Good luck to the pair 🤞🏼

You know it’s been a great session when you are still releasing like this 10 minutes after treatment ✅

I have had the pleasure of working with Pedro on more than one occasion. Pedro has a new owner and had a lot going on across his body.

This particular day I did lots of work on his Tmj , poll and jaw area as well as including craniosacral therapy into the treatment.

He held a huge amount of tension in his head that radiated into the upper neck .. he certainly felt much better after treatment and relaxed instantly.
