Gary 🥹

This gorgeous little boy came in for his first ever puppy groom - and he was an absolute super star 🌟
His first groom consisted of a bath, blow dry and nail trim (also with a little play break in the middle). He took it all in his stride and had fun whilst doing so 🐾

It’s really important to get your puppy booked in from a young age, so they get used to the sounds, smells and touch of a groomer. This way, it becomes a part of their everyday life, and they won’t be stressed whilst being in our care.

So far we’ve been donated a couple of jumpers and coats, along with some collars and harness’s 🥹 thank you all so much 🫶🏼

⚠️ I M P O R T A N T ⚠️

Unfortunately, it’s come the time of year where this horrid product gets stocked up on the shelves, made to look pretty and appetising for people to purchase and treat their dogs for Christmas.

Please, please, please DON’T buy any Rawhide treat for your dogs.

Rawhide is made from using an animals inner layer of skin, most common animal used is a cow.
In the process of making it, they need to separate any fats and remove any hair. They do this by using nasty chemicals like sodium sulfide.
To get the lovely ‘white’ look to the treat, they will dip it into hydrogen peroxide - a form of Bleach 😱🤯
They then use GLUE to stick it all together to create that pretty product they then put on the shelves for you to buy.

It’s a disgrace it’s still being sold in shops 😤

Please shop natural treats!! Your dogs tummy will thank you for it 🐾🫶🏼

A dog’s nose pattern is completely unique to them, just like a thumb print is on humans. Look at how cute all those little noses are 🥹 don’t think I didn’t boop every last one! ❤️

🐾 LOOSE LEAD WALKING 🐾

We all know how frustrating it can be when you’re getting dragged down the road by your dog, and not actually being able to enjoy your walk together.

Meet the lovely Bella and Luna 🐶 now I believe when I first had the enquiry about walking these two, the title of the email was ‘Help! Unruly Beagles!’ 🤣❤️

In the first video, you can see Luna walking with a flat collar and lead, her nose down completely disengaged from me, leading the walk.

In the second video, I changed her to a slip lead which gives me a lot more control over her. The moment she walked past the ‘heal’ position, I gave her a quick pop on the lead. She is such a smart little cookie 🍪 she picked up the ‘heal’ command straight away 🥰 Using inward turns and backward recalls to keep her engaged and focused on me - see how much more she’s engaged by looking up and me, rather then nose to the floor and in front of me.

The last video is of her sister Bella. Now Bella is a typical Hound dog, with her nose constantly to the floor, and her focus a lot harder to break.
You’ll see the I had to do a lot more inward turns and backwards recalls to keep her focus more on me, rather then what’s going on around her. You’ll also see in this video towards the end where I’ll use a lead correction (pop on the lead) when she’s in the sit position and goes to walk off. I always use a break command when training, so the dog knows when they can leave. This will also encourage more focus on you, whilst other distractions are around. Her focus on me after the correction is just amazing 🤩

I’ve sampled quite a few different brands of footwear over the years, being that I obviously walk a lot of pups 🐶 and these by far have been the most durable, comfortable and long lasting boots I’ve come across. Pricey, but most certainly worth it 🐾

🐶❄️ F U N D R A I S I N G ❄️🐶

It’s that time of year again where I’ll be starting my fundraising for Balkan Underdogs. This charity is one close to my heart, as it’s where my guys are all adopted from.

All nail clips (£5) from now until December will be donated straight to the charity to help support them in the harsh Winter. This will help provide plastic beds, straw, plastic sheets to cover the pens with. It will also provide enough food for the dogs which are unfortunately still on the street, with hay for them also so they don’t have to sleep in the snow and freeze 🥺

⚠️ DOG COATS ⚠️

If anyone has any dog coats they no longer require, I will be extremely grateful for them 🙏🏼 I will be sending these off towards mid December.

I recently attended a dog training seminar, and had the honour of working with who in my opinion is one of the best trainers around. I did this to refresh my knowledge on the training aspect of my business, so I can go forward and help any future clients. I also had the pleasure of meeting and soaking up the knowledge of which was just amazing!

At Top Dog, we like to make sure all our doggies have the best time whilst in our care 🐾

Sweep unfortunately only has 10% vision left, if not less. He is ball mad and loves to play fetch, but often can’t keep track of the ball.

So I went online to find this ball, which seems to be perfect for him 🥹 it smells (strongly) of beef, which makes it easier for him to sniff out. It’s brightly coloured so easier to spot and even has a little bell inside so he can hear where the ball goes. Safe to say, Sweep absolutely loves this ball 🥰
