Grass seed removal
π±Itβs Grass Seed Season
The sun is finally out at last and we are now getting a chance to enjoy some lovely walks with our pets π₯°π₯°
This does mean however that they can sometimes pick up some pesky grass seeds, ππin fact we have already seen three patients with grass seeds in their ears and feet!!!
Grass seeds ππare small with pointed ends which can pierce the skin and burrow down deep in to tissue or travel down the ear canal.
Below you can see a video of one being removed from the ear of one of our lovely patients during sedation.
After your pets walk we would recommend that you check their coat, ears, paws , between their toes and even around the eyes.
If your dog has a grass seed you may notice:
πlicking paws constantly
πpainful swelling between their toes
πlimping
πshaking their head
πpawing at ears, rubbing against surfaces
πsudden and violent sneezing
πredness, swelling or discharge in their eye
πchewing, licking at a sore spot on their skin
Our VIP plans are a fabulous way to ensure your pet has the best start in life, just give our fantastic experienced team a call.

This handsome boy is called Achilles β€οΈβ€οΈ and as you can see he never stopped wagging his tail all the time he was here with us.π₯°π₯°
He is the most gorgeous boy β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈπ₯°π₯°π₯°
Achilles has Unilateral Cryptorchidism, meaning only one of his testicles has descended into his scrotum. Some pets can have Bilateral Cryptorchidism which means neither teste have descended.
The testes develop near the kidneys within the abdomen and normally descend into the scrotum by about two months of age, but in certain dogs it may occur later, around six months of age.
Surgery to remove them is recommended because male dogs with a retained testicle are more likely to develop a testicular tumor.
Retained testes maybe found in the abdomen, inguinal canal (this is the passage through which a testicle normally descends), or even located in the subcutaneous tissues (just under the skin) around the groin region.
Handsome Achilles retained testicle was removed from the abdomen.
Darling Achilles is back home with his loving Dad , but we will see him soon for his post operative checks, we can't wait to see him π₯°π₯°

Did you know thereβs a dental disease thatβs so common it is found in more than a third of adult cats? Itβs called FORLβs (Feline Oral Resorptive Lesion) featured in this video. This is when cells called odontoclasts start to destroy the surface of the tooth. It starts underneath the gum, making it very difficult to diagnose. Itβs also very painful.

Poor Heichou β€οΈβ€οΈ caught and hurt her nail and worried Mum brought her in to see amazing Veterinary Surgeon Ben, because as a result of this little trauma Heichou stopped eating.
After a thorough examination she was admitted, and given medication to help gut mobility, antibiotics, subcutaneous fluids ( this is where fluids are placed under the skin using a needle), and pain relief.
Throughout her stay she was encouraged to eat, initialy starting with syringe feeding of a critical care formulation. We were so pleased when she started eating by herself, she really loved her favourite nibbles that Mum had brought in.
Just look at the gorgeous video of her below. β€οΈβ€οΈ
It is important for your pet rabbit to eat all of the time, this prevents Gastrointestinal stasis.
Which can occur when muscular contractions (peristalsis) and movement within your rabbits π° stomach and intestines slows down or even stop (ileus) and normal beneficial bacteria become imbalanced.
The decrease in gut movement can potentiality make them very ill and can even lead to life threating complications if not treated.
Gorgeous Heichou is now home with her loving family, lovely girl we will miss you, you're such a character!ππ
