Are you looking to buy a puppy? Here are 5 tips to help you identify a reputable breeder:

1. Good knowledge of the breed - The breeder should have knowledge of the breed and types of homes it would be suitable for. They will also be honest about its advantages and drawbacks, whether that means a tendency to develop certain health problems or a temperament
2. Allowing you to meet the puppy's mum and litter-mates (you may not be able to meet the father but should always be able to meet the mother).
3. Only allowing puppies to leave for their new homes once they have reached a minimum of 8 weeks of age and had their first round of vaccinations.
4. The puppies will live in the house and be handled often, as pet who is born into family life has a better shot at growing up relaxed and friendly.
5. The Breeder will greet you in their house and not somewhere else.

We all want to give our dogs a special Christmas but here are some foods you should be aware are poisonous to our furry friends -

❌ chocolate ❌
❌ Christmas pudding & mince pies ❌
❌ grapes and dried vine fruits including currants, sultanas & raisins ❌
❌ onions (garlic, leeks, shallots & chives ❌
❌ any foods containing artificial sweetner called xylitol ❌

Seek veterinary advice ASAP if you dog has consumed anything poisonous.

Some foods that are safe for doggy consumption are:

✅ Turkey (no skin or bones) ✅
✅ lamb meat (no bones) ✅
✅ scrambled eggs ✅
✅ Brussel sprouts ✅
✅ green beans ✅
✅ peas ✅
✅carrots ✅
✅ parsnips ✅
✅ swede ✅
✅ potatoes mashed or boiled (best with no butter) ✅
✅sweet potato ✅

Remember giving your dog lots of new foods can cause vomiting & diarrhoea!

With cold weather and icy conditions setting in, here are some things to watch out for to keep our fur babies safe 🥶🐾

⚠️antifreeze is extremely toxic to dogs and can cause serious damage and even be fatal even if only a small amount is ingested. Antifreeze smells and tastes sweet to dogs too making all too tempting for some! ⚠️ You should seek veterinary advice ASAP if your dog has ingesting something poisonous

⚠️frostbite/hypothermia is a real risk. Low temperatures and high winds can quickly reduce a dogs body temperature. Snow and ice can stick to fur between their pads increasing the risks. Coats and paw protectors can be used to help keep them warm and reduce the risks ⚠️

⚠️ Recently gritted surfaces can be harmful to dogs too. Grit can get stuck in the paws, causing soreness, redness or cracking and may contain salt or other chemicals that can cause further irritation. If licked in large enough amounts, the salt found in road grit can be harmful to your dog, so make sure to wipe your dog’s paws after walks in gritted areas⚠️
