Dior came in today not feeling too well.
So he was hospitalised for us to monitor him and do some tests.
Dior wasn’t that keen on being in the kennel alone, so the nurses fashioned a sling to put him in so he was with someone at all times!
He has gone home feeling much better 💙💙
Thank you Lee Johnson @ Quantum Creative Graphics for designing our new vaccination cards. We are a standalone independent practice so you won't find these anywhere else! 🐾😊
Harley’s being such a brave boy having to go through lots of bandage changes, so our nurse Amiee decided he deserved a special bandage today ❤️
EDIT - THE OWNER HAS BEEN LOCATED. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO SHARED

Do you realise exactly how much our nurses do?
As its Vet Nurse awareness month we’d like to show our appreciation and thanks to our wonderful nursing team for their hard work and dedication to our patients and for the invaluable support they give to our vets. Our nurses have gone through years of training before qualifying as Registered Veterinary Nurses. Thank you Sally, Sue, Aimee, Chloe, Laura, Harriett and Megan, you’re all amazing !!
Sorry what was that, veterinary is all about cuddling cute puppies and kittens???
I don’t believe you………
Maggie came in yesterday for her monthly flea & worm treatment with the nurses.
Can we all just take a minute to appreciate her gorgeous eyelashes 🩷🩷
Somebody has left a car key on the desk at reception, please call us if it’s yours (proof will be required)
Valkyrie, Vanadis and Freyja came in on Saturday for some play time, treats and flea and worming!
If you have been in the consult room with the wonky shelves- these are specifically wonky to create a climbing platform for the cats to explore while we chat to the humans and take photos 😂
Don’t these guys have the best names!
We would like to introduce Harriet, a Registered Veterinary Nurse, to the Highfields Vets Team 💜
Harriet qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 2021. She has come to us from a larger hospital and brings a keen interest in Emergency and Critical care medicine. Harriet has a lot of experience nursing very sick animals and also in transfusion medicine, helping with the Pet Blood Bank. She is also interested in pet nutrition.
We hope you all give her a warm welcome to the team 💜
A wave of kittens & mums has well and truly hit the centre!😳🫣
We are bracing our staff to standby for impact as we receive the knock on affects of unneutered felines🥴… we are thankful for all those we can help but with us already being at capacity we may not always be in a position to do so and so please consider neutering your cats!
These cute four joined us on Monday and are adorably cheeky. With an influx of mouths to feed we would be very grateful for any donations of wet kitten food in jelly, any brand or any quantity would be most appreciated! We also have an Amazon wishlist here if you would be so kind: https://amzn.eu/6awFwuP
If you would be interested in adopting a kitten or two.. maybe three😜 feel free to get in touch to enquire or fill out an application form, we will be in contact as they become available for rehoming 🐾.
It’s Kitten Season!!!!
Lucy went to RSPCA Burton upon Trent & District Branch yesterday to visit the maternity ward, which is FULL of young cats with kittens.
Lots of kittens are being abandoned- so we are trying to educate people on getting your cat neutered.
Female cats can get pregnant from as early as 4 months old. This is why it is important to not let your cat out until it has been neutered, or if you have a brother and sister- get them booked in asap, they don’t care they are related!
Getting your boy cat done will prevent him wandering off trying to find a female and also can stop them spraying in your house.
If you have any questions or would like to get your cat booked in for neutering please do not hesitate to contact us.
If you are interested in rehoming a cat or kitten please contact RSPCA Burton upon Trent & District Branch

Happy 3rd Birthday to us! Thank you for your continued support, thanks for our amazing team for a lot of (quite literally) blood, sweat and tears. We have created a thing, and we think it's pretty ace. Just a snap shot of the last few years and we hope to be here for many more. Thanks all, Lucy and James.x
Happy to our incredible receptionists!!
Your warm smiles, organisation and customer service make our practice who we are.
Thank you for being the welcoming face that welcome our patients and clients every day.
You are the heart of our practice! 💕
🌟Worried about your dog and rapeseed?🌟
At this time of year, we start to notice lots of posts circulating social media regarding rapeseed; these posts are shared extensively and can understandably worry many dog owners. The posts usually state that rapeseed is highly poisonous to dogs, and can cause signs including haemolytic anaemia, blindness, damaged nervous system, digestive disorders and breathing problems.
These posts are misinformation.
The signs mentioned are typically only seen in grazing animals, and most dogs actually remain asymptomatic after exposure to rapeseed. Dogs can develop gastrointestinal upset if they have ingested some of the plant, and there have been reports of skin reactions which resemble burns, but this is extremely rare and does not happen to every dog which comes into contact with it.
Happy Birthday to the main boss!
Today is about celebrating you and how amazing you are!!
Happy Birthday Lucy!!! 🎈 🎁 🎉
Harold came in for castration this week. He loves the camera 📷 💙
IS YOUR CAT MICROCHIPPED?
🐾 From 10th June 2024 all cats in England will be required to be microchipped under the new microchipping law
🐾 All adult cats and kittens that do not currently have a microchip will need to have a microchip implanted, and registered, by the time they reach 20 weeks old, or you could face a fine!
🐾 This new law applies to all cats, even indoor cats that don’t go out!
🐾 If your cat needs a microchip please call us on 📞01332 327 287, or arrange an appointment with one of our wonderful nursing team via our website www.highfieldsvets.com.
If you’re not sure if your cat already has a microchip you can pop into reception and we can scan them for you.
This evening we had the absolutely stunning young man Loki in for his annual boosters.
He is just over a year old and weighs 8.6kg!!

Thank you for your patience if you have ordered medications. We are hoping (and praying) we get some sort of order that has been promised tomorrow morning!! If you have ordered medications and we haven’t yet contacted you, we will contact you tomorrow whether they are ready to collect or delayed.
Pratchett came in this morning for his post operative check. He was showing off his skills of putting his own buster collar on!
Did somebody say treats?!🤤 Teddy Bear came to see us yesterday for some dental work. It was noticed at his annual vaccination appointment that he had some dental disease. Teddy is one of a few breeds that tend to be more affected by dental problems. These breeds include Yorkshire Terriers, Toy poodles, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Greyhounds and any flat faced breeds such as Pugs, French Bulldogs, Bulldogs and crosses of these breeds. Teddy's owners decided to be more vigilant with their dental care to try and prevent worsening of his dental disease. By providing dental care regularly we can reduce the effect dental disease will have on his life and make him more comfortable. Teddy received many cuddles and kisses from the team and went home a happy boy minus 3 teeth!
