Meet hermes, this little ball of energy has weekly walks to break up the days his owner is at work. Last week when his mum took him out she noticed he was getting agitated during meeting new dogs so today he came out with my girl neeka and she helped build his confidence when meeting new dogs. She also showed him the proper way to handle his big feelings. Successful walk and a happy little dog.

Great session yesterday with 9 month old apolo and his dad. They reached out to me looking for help with his recall after a previous trainer had failed him. By the end of our session his owner was absolutely blown away, literally and figuratively thanks to the British weather 😂

I love seeing this handsome boy every week. So much so I've learnt some Spanish to use the commands his owner taught him. Collies are so smart. His 1 flaw however is during drop off he will lie in front of the door to stop me leaving 😢.
If your need some help with your pups exercise there's no shame in that. Capitans owners have a 2 hr walk every week on the days he's at home alone the longest!

Hello lovelies, I'm Cody the owner of Practical Pups. I thought id finnaly share some information about myself and my experience.
My love for dogs has been as long as I can remember when I was 9 years old my family and I started dryland husky racing. I grew up around all shapes and sizes of dogs and I think it really shaped the person I am today. Through the sport I met some amazing people who helped me learn so much but also showed me so many opportunities! Because of the I started helping with local husky experiences, they even helped me find one all the way in Finland. I worked in a husky safari Kennel's all the way out there where I helped look after over 150 dogs! After coming home I found a passion for making collars that worked for my dogs, that's where this all started. I took a break for a while to work in a German shepherd Kennel's where I helped to train dogs for sport and the police! Since then I have studied hard and attended the imdt 2 day and 4 day dog trainer courses and I'm currently working towards my assessment to become a qualified trainer.
Now I'm determined to help you and your pups live the life most practical for you! Whether that's thought traning classes, 1-2-1s, walks or pet sitting I'm here for you and more importantly your pups, so if your interested in my services you can rest assured I know my stuff 😂

I'm absolutely kicking myself. The dogs on the current intro to scent work are absolutely smashing it so much so I keep forgetting to take promo things! I managed to get this 1 clip of smithy and his owner last week. Hopefully this Monday I'll have a friend with me to take some content to show you all the joys of scent work and how I run classes! The number one thing I find with teaching fun tricks is until you've got it you cannot be afraid of how crazy you look to other people! This was me teaching my dog neeka to do leg weavs for the first time. For a while I've had this video and not wanted to post it because of the way I look in it but honestly I know I'm not alone we've all looked like a mad person for the sake of our dogs so let's embrace it. If your interested in teaching your dog tricks like this let me know hopefully soon I'll be running some old dog new trick classes!

So what is scent work?
Scent work is teaching your dog to find a particular smell and show you where it is.
Why is scent work good for my dog?
Scent work allows a natural behaviour to work in your favour. Whether its raining or sunny scent work is a great way to exercise your dog. 20 mins of scent work is equal to 1 hr of physical exercise. Not only is it a great way to exercise your dog but it's naturally calming for them. Meaning it's perfect for before you have to leave the house as it means they will be calm cool and collected instead of excited like many are after walks.
If scebt work sounds like something youd like to try with your dog pop down on Monday to the Darley Abbey scouts Hall between 4.30 and 6 to have a go and ask any questions you might have!

Do you have an active dog that loves to sniff around, or maybe your looking for a steady class environment with low pressure to build your dogs confidence?
Practical Pups is happy to announce we'll be running out first 3 week block of intro to scent work classes. In these classes I will give you the skills to use your dogs noes to your advantage! In class we will be training dogs to find the scent of gun oil. Each dog and there owner by the end of classes will be scent home with there own tin to train with at home, all your pup needs to be sniffing star is a foundation of a down! Don't worry if your pup hasn't aced it yet as I'll be there every step of the way to help.
Classes will be structured to make the most of the time while also ensuring your dogs comfort!
Classes will commence on the 19th of February and run for 3 weeks every Monday 4.30pm till 5. 30 pm at the Darley Abbey scouts Hall. The 3 week block will have an upfront price of £35. Fab to see all those fluffy faces, definitely got some great ideas. Same time next Monday for thoes who didn't make it this week. Come say hi, I'm hosting a meet the trainer day on the 5th and 12th of February. I want to use this as an opportunity to get to know you and your pups, but to also find out that you want and need out of our future classes!
