🎆Firework Season is here! 🎆
Here’s some tips and tricks to help your pet enjoy the season with you .🐕 🐈‍⬛ 🐇 🐹 🐎

1. Make sure they have somewhere safe and secure to go, a crate with a blanket and plenty of sounds
2. Walk your dog in day light hours
3. Put on music or TV program to help drown out the noise
4. Ignore the noises and play with your pets but don’t force them
5. You can contact the practice and one of our vets can recommend medication that may be appropriate
6. If your pet suffers with aniety surrounding loud noises you can prepare for next year by playing loud noises throughout the year

💜🍞Meet Hovis🍞💜

Hovis came in last week for us to examine his paw under anaesthetic after being unable to put weight on it.

There was an obvious swelling on the underside of his paw which was highly suspicious of a foreign body. We made an incision, flushed the area and were able to remove a sliver of woody material🪵

Hovis was very brave throughout despite having a big piece of wood in his paw! it was over 5cm long which is very impressive📏

Here is Hovis at one of his post op checks looking as handsome as ever, and yes, he is named after the bread🍞🤣

Today we had a different kind of patient at the practice🦢

This cygnet was brought to us after being found with lots of fishing wire stuck in his mouth at a local pond🎣

After taking x-rays to make sure he hadn't swallowed a hook, we were able to safely remove the wire🪝

After a quick bite to eat, some pain relief and a quick dip in a makeshift pool, he was back to his normal self in no time and has now been released back and swam off happily💜

This is the adorable Fudge🍫

She came in to see our nurse for flea and worming treatment this morning🪱

Her tail did not stop wagging the whole time, so we must rate her a 100/10 for the best impersonation of a helicopter🚁

🦴🐾 Arthritis Awareness 🐾🦴

Osteoarthritis (OA) is inflammation in joints as a result of cartilage degeneration, which causes the bones to rub together. This leads to joint pain and can interfere with mobility. Did you know arthritis affects 2 in 5 dogs & cats⁉️

There are various causes for this, including:
⭐️Obesity
⭐️Natural wear and tear
⭐️Damage/Injury to the joints
⭐️Infections or Immune-Mediated disease
⭐️Some breeds have a genetic predisposition to Osteoarthritis, for example large breeds like Labradors & German Shepherds

Whilst there is no cure for Osteoarthritis, we can help slow the progression through exercise, supportive joint supplements and diet. The main treatment for OA is pain control, there are a variety of pain medications available. We often use a multimodal approach, meaning we use different types of pain relief together to provide maximum pain control for our patients🐾

We often use Librela (Solensia in cats), which is a monthly injection given to help with arthritis. Many of our clients notice a huge difference in their pets mobility and comfort on these medications💉

If you think your pet is showing signs of arthritis and would like to know more about the treatment options available or book an appointment with a vet to discuss pain relief, please call us on 01246 23 67 91 ☎️

🦴Orthopaedic Surgery🦴

Meet Tito!

Tito's parents came to us for a 2nd opinion after they noticed he had been lame for a while which caused him to take a tumble off the bed putting him in a lot of pain.

After an initial consult with Dinu, we took x-rays which confirmed he had cruciate damage in both of his back legs. We discussed the treatment options for this with his owners.

His owners decided to operate on both legs at the same time so that he can have a faster recovery and be taken on holiday where he can go for runs along the beach which he loves🏖🏃‍♂️

Dinu then performed bilateral (both legs) TPLO-CWO and his surgeries went well. Tito has now had his post-op xrays which show his legs are healing very well and he is signed off🎉

Tito is doing brilliantly and has started venturing on longer walks. His owners have planned to take him on a holiday where he can run until his heart is content💜

🐾Do you want to know what happens behind the scenes when your pet comes in for an operation? 🐾

Follow the video of Mabel during her keyhole spay day!

Some facts about keyhole (laparoscopic) spays:
🌟Less painful than traditional spay as there is less tugging on the ovarian ligaments
🌟Less chance of bleeding at the surgical site as we cauterise/create a seal around the ovaries using advanced equipment rather than using suture material
🌟Surgical wounds are much smaller
🌟Recovery is around 3-5 days!

We also perform laparoscopic surgeries for clients at other practices💜

If you are interested and would like to know more, please call us on 01246 236791☎️ We are happy to answer any questions you may have or provide an estimate.
