Not all licking is (or should be labelled) appeasement licking.✅❓❌
I appreciate this can be a very divisive subject, and yes, dogs can lick from affection (and for many other reasons)....but if there are other signals shown that your dog is uncomfortable, they can help you determine what is actually occurring and why.
This is ALL great information !
This can help you both!
There is a video linked in the comments that goes into this subject in more details.

Puppies start off all cute and lovely. But they can take a lot of training.

What part of training have you found easiest, and what was the hardest?

If you are still struggling with training it might be time to get some help.

********** FIREWORK ADVICE **********

For anybody that has a missing dog due to the fireworks please follow as below. There is every chance the dog will return when he/she has calmed down. Also do not shout their names or whistle for them this will only heighten their anxiety levels.

If the dog has gone missing from home please do the following ASAP. Please leave some items of family unwashed clothing and a little bit of food outside in your front garden and if its safe to do also leave a door slightly open so should he/she make it back to the home he/she will have easy access back into the home. Please follow as below.

Can you leave some items of family unwashed clothing or anything with the body scent on of the person the dog, has most bonded with and leave with a little bit of smelly food ie tinned sardines, smoked cheese, chicken, or anything smelly etc, near to where he/she went missing from AS ABOVE. This does work we have had a large number of dogs return by doing this but it needs doing ASAP. Polo/tee shirt, PJ’s, old well worn coat, walking boots with smelly socks inside, even the bottom sheet from the bed works. As much unwashed clothing as possible we need to get your scent airborne ASAP.

9 out of 10 dogs will go back to where they went missing from so please do the above ASAP.

Recognising separation anxiety in dogs can help you address the issue early. Here are some common signs to look out for:

🐩Excessive barking or howling when left alone.
🐕Destructive behaviour, like chewing furniture or scratching doors.
🐩Pacing or restlessness, especially near doors or windows.
🐕Accidents in the house (even if they’re house-trained).
🐩Attempts to escape, which can cause injury.
🐕Excessive salivation or drooling when you're not around.

If you notice any of this behaviour when you leave, your dog may be experiencing separation anxiety.

I can help with this, pop me a message, or book in for training over on the website.

🎃 Halloween Tips for a Happy, Calm Dog! 🎃

Halloween is a fun time, but it can be a bit overwhelming for our dogs and puppies! Here are a few simple tips to keep your dog relaxed and safe while you enjoy the festivities:

1. Soothing Sounds for a Calm Night
Play some gentle music or put on their favourite TV show to help cover up the sounds of knocking, doorbells, and excited voices outside. Familiar sounds can work wonders to keep your dog relaxed!

2. Trick-or-Treaters at the Door?
If you’re welcoming trick-or-treaters, set up a cosy space for your dog away from the front door. Their bed or crate in a quiet room with a favourite toy will help them feel secure and keep the evening calm for everyone.

3. Safety First
Make sure your dog is safe before opening the door. A baby gate or lead can help prevent any accidental escapes or nervous interactions. This way, you can greet trick-or-treaters worry-free while your dog stays comfortable and secure.

With these easy steps, Halloween can be a safe, enjoyable night for you and your dog! 🐾

Training & leadership

As a trainer, my aim is to help you develop a happy, healthy relationship with your dog. To get the best out of your dog, you need to be positive, assertive and consistent, enforcing boundaries with love and firmness. A dog that trusts and respects you will be happy and relaxed, knowing that it can look to you for guidance rather than being nervous and tense.

Training and leadership starts the first day you bring your new bundle of joy home. Your puppy might look like butter wouldn’t melt, but don’t be fooled! If you don’t introduce your rules, your puppy will think that he or she needs to make their own, and the rocky road begins.
