Ouch!! Poor Teddy had a bit of a run in with some leftovers when camping with his family a few weekends ago as a piece of bone became stuck either side of his tooth! This piece of bone was removed under sedation as it was wedged either side of his molar and was causing a lot of discomfort. His family were happy for us to share these images to bring awareness around the issues that can arise when our canine companions get ahold of our leftovers!

Good morning- we have had a stray dog walk into our car park. He is a male Shih Tzu cross, tan and white and has recently had a visit to the groomers. No collar, chipped but details not updated. Not neutered.

Are you looking to travel abroad with your pet this summer? If you are, you will be required to obtain an Animal Health Certificate (AHC) for them. An AHC needs to be issued by an Official Veterinarian (OV). Check with your veterinary practice to see if they have a qualified OV because not every practice will have one. Good morning!
We are having a practice meeting today between 11am and 3pm and will be closed during that time with cover in place for emergencies. Please keep these times in mind if travelling to us today to collect medication etc. There are also temporary traffic lights/ roadworks just outside the practice which can have an impact on travel times and are causing some delays so please also keep this in mind when making your way to us for appointments.

Sometimes, just sometimes, we do spend our day cuddling puppies and kittens! These gorgeous little ones came in for their first vaccines, to have their microchips implanted, pedicures all round and soooo many cuddles!! ❤️ mum also got a check over, her booster and lots of love from Sara!

As well as usually being the most complicated patients, staff pets are also useful in helping students with their practical tasks.
The first picture was with Megan the first student to practice on Ralph. Nearly 6 years on and 8 different students later (including his owner) Ralph helped Larwood's latest student with the bandaging task. He also lays still for radiograph practice using an old chopping board!!!!

Thanks to a client for sending in this photo! These are tiny little grass seeds and every single one came out of a dog’s eyes following a walk on a local common! Grass seeds in ears and paws are the usual but it’s so important to check EVERYWHERE for them as they can cause so many problems if left unfound! You can check your dogs eyes by very gently lowering their bottom eyelids and by lifting up their upper eyelids to make sure they’re clear and grass seed free.

This gorgeous chap, believe it or not, is actually a puppy! He needed to have some blood taken but was feeling a bit wary and unsure about the whole situation. We took it slow and made sure he had a positive experience… and, of course, broke out the squirty cheese as a distraction! As you can see by his cheesy chin… it definitely worked 😂 we got the blood we needed and he got to eat his weight in the good stuff 😆 positive experiences early on will help to grow confident, well adjusted adults so getting it right from the start is key! We also throw in cuddles where required 😉❤️ what a good boy.

Heat stress starts as a reversible condition, but if not managed it will develop to heat stroke, which is extremely dangerous. If your pet shows any of these signs, they should be moved to a cool area and offered plenty of water to drink. Maximus came in to see RVN Laura for his Healthy Pet Club 6 monthly check up- she saw him in her consult room but actually, looking at the size of him, a stable might have been more appropriate!! He was a very good boy and had lots of fuss on his way out to reception, too!

Beautiful Blue came in to see us this week to be castrated and he was so gorgeous we couldn’t just take one photo! It’s so important to neuter male (and female!) cats to help prevent the breeding of unwanted kittens and to also help prevent unwanted behaviours associated with reaching sexual maturity!

Something unusual for you! Despite being portrayed in cartoons etc as the go-to “toy”, sticks are actually really quite dangerous for dogs to play with. Not only can they cause all sorts of problems from stick-poke injures to full on (don’t read on if you’re squeamish) impalement, they can also get wedged all sorts of places- like between a dogs back teeth! Luckily we were able to use forceps to remove this one but the pain of having it wedged between teeth across this dogs jaw must have been immense! Luckily they went home with no lasting harm done and feeling much more comfortable ❤️

What were we just saying about grass seeds?! 🌾 grass seed season is definitely in full swing and poor Charley came in with a textbook case of “paw meets grass seed”! Luckily we were able to locate and remove it and send her home feeling much more comfortable!
Classic signs of grass seeds in paws include increased licking of the area, redness, swelling and pain. If you think your dog may have picked up a grass seed then time really is of the essence as they can track up the limb pretty quickly so please give us a call asap to get them checked over! 🌾
