Daisy’s Dental
Daisy’s Dental Procedure
Have you ever wondered what happens behind the scenes when your pet comes in for a dental procedure?
Admit
On admission you should allow 10 to 15 minutes for one of our vets or nurses to discuss treatment, carry out a clinical exam and complete paperwork.
Pre-anaesthetic bloods
We offer pre-anaesthetic bloods to all patients coming in for procedures. These are a great way of detecting problems with the patient’s liver or kidneys enabling us to make alterations to the patient’s anaesthetic protocol.
Intravenous fluid therapy
Fluid therapy can also be administered throughout the procedure to aid your pet’s recovery.
While your pet is under anaesthetic their blood pressure normally falls so fluid therapy can help reduce this.
X-rays
Dental x-rays allow us to see below the gum line which aids in decision making when extracting teeth.
Dental procedure
Our vets complete a more in depth clinical exam of your pet while they are under anaesthetic and descale their teeth before making a final judgement if a tooth needs extracted.
Recovery
Our nurses are constantly monitoring your pet throughout their dental procedure and recover, recording their heart rate, respiration and temperature ensuring to report any changes to the operating vet.
Once your pet has fully recovered they are discharged home with post operative instructions and a follow up appointment.

Ear mites
⚠️ COULD YOUR PET HAVE EAR MITES? ⚠️
Have you recently seen your pet scratching their ears or shaking their heads more often than usual? These could be signs of ear problems.
Ear mites, for instance, are tiny parasites that can affect your pet’s ears and can easily be transmitted from cats to dogs (and vice-versa!).
Ear mite infections tend to result in:
- Itchy and smelly ears
- Red, painful or swollen ears
- Rubbing their face or head
- Ear wax (which is often dark brown, resembling coffee grounds)
- A swollen ear if an aural haematoma develops

Tapeworm and cats
Tapeworm 🐱
Tapeworms are one of the most common types of worm found in cats around the UK and Ireland. A good worming routine is all part of being a responsible cat owner and is vital to protect your cat from the dangers of these pesky parasites.
Cats that spend much of their time outdoors, hunting birds and rodents are particularly at risk of developing worms.
Tapeworms are made up of small segments – about the size of a grain of rice. These segments can break off and become visible in your cat’s fur, around the anus, or in your cat’s faeces 🪱
The tapeworm is a species of parasitic flatworm known as a cestode. The tapeworm’s mouth is filled with six sets of ‘teeth’ that it uses to attach itself to the lining of the cat’s intestine and feed on the nutrients from your cat’s food. The result is that your cat may begin to lose weight, despite being hungrier than usual.

Regular flea treatment can help to prevent tapeworm in dogs, as tapeworm eggs are commonly carried by fleas and passed to your dog when he or she ingests a flea while washing.
Puppies are particularly at risk of contracting tapeworm, due to their immature immune systems making it essential that they are wormed regularly. 🪱
