My name is Michelle Lawes- (known to many as Shelley or Shell !) I am the founder of ‘Hair of the Dog’ an individually run dog grooming salon in Devizes which offers natural and tailored pet trims & dog grooming services. In my previous life, I was an NHS nurse for many years dedicating my time caring for patients. From 2019 life changed, particularly with the pandemic creating significant change
in how nurses were able to consult and treat their patients. As a dog lover, I decided I was too old to consider veterinary nursing, but wanted to utilise my health care skills and knowledge and continue to be hands on. In 2022 I was professionally trained by Lesley Garratt, Owner of Canine Design Academy of Dog Grooming. Lesley, LCGI is a member of the Guild of Master groomers and holds the BDGA Higher Diploma in dog grooming (the highest qualification). Later that year I proudly achieved City and Guilds level 2 (Distinction) dog grooming assistant and level 3 (Merit) dog groomer qualifications. As a dog owner I wanted to create a grooming salon that I would like for my own dogs: a relaxed and caring environment, with no factory-line approaches. I provide a 1-2-1 service, that is non-rushed, stress free and enjoyable for both. I happily welcome dog owners to come and have a look around so and your dog can familiarise yourself with the new surroundings. I will always tell you honestly how your dog feels during the groom and will make recommendations for next time. Owners of puppies, nervous and anxious dogs are often invited to stay if I feel it will benefit your dog during its groom. A massive thank you to all my customers who have supported me over the last 12 months and continue to do so. It is a pleasure to groom each and every one of your dogs, and these photos show just what it truely means to me. It is sad when we lose these family members and see customers move on, but also a joy when I meet a new canine friend, and old customers returning. 😊

Freddie, who when he arrives, is nervous at first, soon relaxes, and is a delight to groom.
Dear Teddy, a cocker spaniel has had little if no grooming experience, but with gentle reassuring sessions at his pace, I am sure we will make progress.
Luna, a shih tzu, is her happiest when looking in the mirror, the entire groom.
Samson, a loveable cocker spaniel, is not a fan of teeth cleaning. However, knowing he gets a treat at the end is all worthwhile!
And dearest Maple, a sprocker....well protest comes to mind when I show her the toothbrush!
These are just some of the many lovely dogs who have visited in the last couple of months.

I write with sadness that Ash, the English setter, recently passed over the rainbow bridge. 🌈 My thoughts continue to be with his owner and his lonely Brittany spaniel companion, Freddie.

Gus, a 2 yr old sprocker came for a wash and tidy up. All his feathers required trimming and a sleeker look for when out in the field..or should I say in the hedges!!!!

Puppy Scout, a 4 month old cocker spaniel, came for his puppy intro and was a little star 🌟 . With plenty of toys and treats on hand, he 'had a ball'..!

Sweet little 'Bear', a very friendly jacket russell, who liked the smell of 'forest fruits', decided we try this shampoo this time. He loves his bath and deshed. A much softer, lighter coat, and a new slimmer look!

Bailey, a lovely natured golden retriever, came for a bath, deshed and dematting session pre Christmas. He looked fabulous... Honey a cavachon, came for her pre Christmas pamper session and couldn't take her eyes off herself in the mirror!

Well, here's an update for those lovely people who have brought their beloved family member to be groomed, and those who kindly ask me 'How are things are going since I opened in May'.... Here are some more photos of various beautiful dogs I am pleased to have met and groomed over the last few weeks; new and existing customers, various breeds ranging from small to giant....

More beautiful dogs who visited for a full groom or bath and tidy up and more good results with emmi-pet ultrasound teeth cleaning. Firstly- Tilly an elderly 18 year old (almost hairless) Papillon came for a long overdue bath and to tidy up her 'cowboy chaps'; Marley a 7 month old cavachon returned for a groom; Jackson a 3 year old jackapoo had his pearly whites cleaned; Milo a 3 year old nervous Vizsla came for a bath and nail trim; Alfie an 8 year old Yorkshire terrier cross came for a 'makeover'; Finn and Blaze 'the krays' looking hansome, who always enjoy being pampered; Lovely Wesley a 9 year old cocker spaniel returned for his bath and tidy up; Amber a 2 year old poodle cross pug, attended for her regular de-matting groom; and beautiful Hollie a 2 year old sprocker attended for her first groom with me. Bless her, she couldn't keep her eyes open any longer....either she had a late night or my dreadful singing just said it all..!!!!

What a lovely morning, the gorgeous Flossie came for her 8 week groom. She wasnt impressed a lookalike 'gate crashed' her 1-2-1 pampering session. Her face is a picture. That stern look had me in hysterics. Flossie turnt her back, only to find the "other dog" STILL there! ONE IS NOT AMUSED!! 🐕🐕

This week I was fortunate to meet and groom Lovely Luna, a 4 yr old shih tzu; Pip a 9 yr old fox wire terrier; Beautiful Bryn a 4 yr old Cavapoo who returned for his 6 week groom and 9 yr old Gus a German wire haired pointer who was in desperate need for a bath, hand strip and tidy up. Plus teeth cleaning session and nail clips were performed.

I was lovely to see Ozzie again this week for a bath and tidy up. He is remarkable for a 12 yr old with chronic arthritis. He came 6 weeks ago in a bit of a sorry matted state, but he continues to look lovely, and is enjoying life. He headed straight for the biscuit tin (no surprise there!) before his bath and tidy up. And then it was home to relax on mums lap...that's enough for one day

Jackson, a friendly 3 yr old Jackapoo, called in for a bath and trim today. Looking shaggy and somewhat 'miffed' he dropped his gravy bone over the side of the bath...but 'happy as larry' once retrieved for him. A trim his owner was pleased with, oh.. and a teeth cleaning session booked in next time!!! ....
Another hansom little chap.
Lilliput Rose an 11 month old, cocker spaniel also came for her first groom. A very energetic, excitable cocker spaniel, full of beans had a nice bath and her feathers trimmed. A beautiful flower collar... she looks stunning....
Also, Bailey a 2 yr old cocker spaniel, came who isnt keen on being groomed. He liked his bath, and happy to be dried, but felt that was more than enough.... he'd sooner be racing around or taking over the sofa!
Also Arthur and Stanley came for teeth cleaning and nail cutting (sorry pics not taken- will do next time).
