Lead RVN Ceri’s handsome boy Parker donated blood this week to help treat “Boo” a little kitten in the care of our local RSPCA branch 🐾

Who’s a handsome boy? 🐾

Meet Parker, a vet nurse’s loyal lab at Estcourt Vets Devizes.

Parker donated blood which was then spun to create a special serum to help continue to treat a cat in our care ❤️‍🩹

There is so much that goes on behind the scenes at vets, we’re incredibly thankful for their support which allows us to continue our work and help to save as many animals as possible.

Thank you

🎆 Bonfire Night is fun for us, but it can be stressful for our pets!

Remember to keep things calm around your pet tonight. Close the windows, shut the curtains, and create a cozy space where they feel safe. Soft, calming music can also help drown out the fireworks! 🎶

How do you keep your pet calm during fireworks?

Wednesday with Widget 🐾

Gorgeous senior boy Widget came in last week for a general anaesthetic and dental procedure with vet Emma and SVN Heather 🩺

Widget is diabetic so the the team took extra precautions to carefully monitor Widget during his stay and his anaesthetic, closely monitoring his blood glucose levels before, during and after his procedure 🦷

We kept Widget’s lovely owner updated with Widget’s progress, sending photos and messages throughout his stay using our free to download messaging service 📱

Say hello to Rolo 🐾 Rolo was recently admitted to the hospital for a cardiac ultrasound followed by a general anaesthetic for castration with vets Emma and Sophie, and lead RVN Gemma 🩺

During a consultation on auscultation of Rolo’s chest vet Emma noticed a heart murmur, Emma proceeded to scan Rolo’s heart to reveal that Rolo has mitral valve disease 🫀

Mitral valve disease (MVD) is a common heart condition which occurs when the mitral valve thickens and becomes nodular. The mitral valve should act as a one-way valve but with MVD the valve becomes leaky, causing blood to flow backwards. This increases the volume of blood and pressure in the left atrium causing it to dilate and stretch slowly over time, resulting heart enlargement. The enlarged heart becomes weaker and can’t pump as effectively.

Rolo has now started on medication for MVD and will be carefully monitored by his dedicated owners at home and will come in to see vet Emma for regular check ups and heart scans 🩺

Scroll across to see Rolo enjoying lots of fuss from RVNs Lucy and Charlotte, in theatre having his castration with vet Sophie and lead RVN Gemma, and having his heart scan with vet Emma 🩵
