The weather might be warming up, but what does that mean for your small pets? One of the key changes they experience is that many small animals will shed their winter fur. Regular grooming can help prevent matting and overheating, so keep a brush handy!

Say hello to Ragnar the Norwegian Elkhound 🐾

Ragnar came in recently after his owners noticed a mass on his back, following a consultation with vet Alexandra, and the results of some fine needle aspirates taken from the mass, the decision was made to surgically remove the mass under general anaesthetic 🩺

We are so pleased to say that Ragnar’s results are back from the laboratory and the mass was benign, and Ragnar is healing nicely ❤️‍🩹

Scroll across to see Ragnar in theatre with vet Alexandra and RVN Heather 👩🏻‍⚕️👩🏼‍⚕️ and being a star patient in his kennel 🌟

Did you know? Cats can make over 100 different sounds, while dogs can only make about 10 🐱🐶
From purrs and meows to chirps and trills, our feline friends have quite the vocabulary. Dogs on the other hand, rely on their wagging tails and expressive faces to communicate.

Immaculate Monday vibes from Alpine - paws up for Monday 🐾 vs time to snuggle back under the duvet 💤

How adorable are these shots of gorgeous boy Alpine taken by RVN Charlotte when Alpine came in to be castrated under general anaesthetic along with his sister Sage, who came in to be spayed 🩺

Both cats were absolute star patients and have seen RVN Heather for their post operative checks of which they passed with flying colours 🌟

Daphne’s dental procedure 🦷

Sticking with our theme of dental care this February we have gorgeous girl Daphne 🐾

Daphne came in to see vet and director James and lead RVN Gemma for her general anaesthetic and dental procedure 🩺

Scroll across to see James scaling Daphne’s teeth, to see Daphne in recovery after her procedure and to see some of Daphne’s dental x-rays. We take full mouth dental x-rays with every dental procedure to ensure that we can examine the roots of the teeth, as well as the crown which is the part we can see above the gum line 🦷

If you look closely at the x-ray images you’ll notice spaces underneath the crown of the tooth where the two or three roots divide - this is known as a furcation, when the gums recede due to periodontal disease these root furcations are exposed which indicates that this tooth needs to be removed. In Daphnes case you can see most of Daphnes pre molars and molars (the teeth behind the big canines) have furcation exposures which resulted in a lot of teeth being extracted - each tooth takes time to extract which can result in a long anaesthetic time therefore we elect to undertake staged dental procedures to ensure patient safety.

We’ll see Daphne back in a few weeks for the second stage of her dental procedure where we will remove the remaining diseased teeth 🦷

In the meantime RVN Sara saw lovely Daphne back for her post dental check and she is recovering well ❤️‍🩹
