!!HEAT STROKE!!
Heat stroke in dogs occurs when they lose their ability to regulate their body temperature!
!!MOST AT RISK!!
- heavy coated breeds
- overweight dogs
- Brachycephalic breeds such as pugs, French bulldogs etc..
Dogs release heat through panting, if the environment is too hot and and can't release the heat quick enough, panting becomes ineffective.
!!KNOW THE SIGNS!!
- Excessive panting
- Anxiety
- very red gums
- salivating
- rapid heartbeat
- lethargic
- severe cases - collapse, convulsion, shock
!!ACT FAST!!
- remove dog from heat
- immerse dog in tepid water - DO NOT USE ICE OR COLD WATER
- Continue to cool dog until breathing returns to normal, SEEK VETERINARY ADVICE!
