Well I promised an update and here it is! 🌿

This habitat is officially grown in and on display in The Pet Shop Liskeard!

This shop holds a special place in my heart as it's where I got my first snake Oracle (see pictures) and definitely helped to kick start my passion for reptiles, to have one of my habitats on display in there really hits home for me.

I'd like to give a massive thank you to Mel, i'll be popping in on thursday to see what you put in there, enjoy your new addition!

Just under 2 months of growth and I'd say the plants are acclimated and starting to pop now, just look at that Peperomia! 😍

Can't wait to see it in a year's time!

Had a busy morning taking cuttings and planting propogations, all of them have been planted in a reptile safe potting soil so no waiting for pesky fertilisers to be processed by the plants! 🌱

Because of the storms today Ive got an impromptu day off from my main job on the recycling trucks so I figured I'd make a a little post so you can get to know me a little more. My name is Rowan and Ive been keeping reptiles for about 5 years now, like most of us I caught the reptile bug and now have a few different species under my roof and always looking into others, I'm currently keeping 2 woma pythons, 3 spotted pythons, a Mexican red knee tarantula, leopard gecko, a red eye tree frog and even a few tubs of woodlice. (I definitely can't forget the small jungle of plants I've been collecting aswell 😅)

From the very start I found standard enclosures boring and always found myself wanting to spice them up and make them more interesting, then I found out what a bioactive enclosure was and my mind exploded. With a background in carpentry and making things, studying zoology, and a massive interest in eco systems as a whole this seems like a perfect route to try and head in whilst trying to improve the lives of our scaley friends along the way! Some of you may even know me from the reptile shop I worked in for a bit! This is something I've been doing on the side for a little while and as with every small business it takes a while to grow but its getting there day by day and I'm looking forward to getting to know you all, anyway here's a little collection of some of my animals and plants and even my favourite hat 😉 feel to drop me a message anytime 🐍

Definitely not a terrarium plant but it'll do the job while I get it growing! Currently sharing its space with a cryptanthus bivitattus and a tradescantia zebrina

A cool bit of caudal luring from willow today, of course the morio beetle had to steal the limelight...

Caudal luring is what some snakes do to lure prey over, they wiggle the tail like a worm in hopes that it attracts the prey close enough to strike, too bad for willow she only ate 2 days ago but nice try!

Doing a little bit of maintenance on the frog tank this morning, the built in drain definitely helps out a tonne when emptying water from the drainage layer! 💦

I've finally sorted the computer out and as promised can now upload some better quality pictures of this vivarium!

This is now fully finished and looking for a new corner to brighten up!

This is just the vivarium with hand carved background as I know planting the enclosure is half the fun of owning a bioactive vivarium and will be more then happy to try and answer any questions you get along the way.

Well I'm a day late uploading these pictures thanks to computer issues 😡 I've had to fill in using my phone for the time being but there will be more better quality pictures coming in the next couple day while I sort it out.

This vivarium is finally finished and looking for its new forever home!

Update time!

This vivarium is growing in really nicely and I had the pleasure of helping the owner move this gorgeous (hopefully pregnant) poecelotheria regalis in to her forever home a few days back!
She's already settled into her cork tube and seems to be more then happy in there.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch so your spider can enjoy a naturalistic, forever home that you can appreciate even when your 8 legged friend is hiding away!

Amphibians are probably best suited for a bioactive terrarium because of the complex relationship they share with plants.

Rupert here definitely enjoys cruising round his enclosure all night until sunrise when he'll find his favourite leaf and sleep all day dreaming of tasty bugs 🐛
