It is no secret that I have a soft spot for poodles 🐩 especially when they are sweet baby angels like Sydney 🩷 I absolutely adore grooming Sydney, he is so pretty and has a gorgeous coat to scissor. It's nice to be able to practice on another poodle! Before he met his current owners he really wasn't looked after very well at all. He has come so far since being in his forever home and he is a testament to his pawrents ✨

Fergus is such a good boy 🩷 we went for a shorter trim this time as he was about to go on holiday to run through fields and lakes and get muddy so shorter was the better option. Less fur, less mess!

Using the right grooming tools at home makes all the difference to keeping your dogs knot free. Also keeping your dogs coat clean and free from debris and mud. It is really important for all dogs but particularly those of you with dogs that have a curly wavy coat.
Dog shampoos have come a long way in the past few years. Specially formulated to be the correct pH for dogs skin and coat. Please don't use human shampoos on your dog, I know it's tempting but it could cause issues with their skin. I recommend @ruffbarkinson @millys.co.uk or @dogslovehownd which are available online or in pet shops.
In this video I had to make do with a plastic brush that I use for my own hair. Now, it is a fabulous brush for curly human hair, not so much for dogs. Slicker brushes and combs are available to purchase from my salon, they are the ones that I use day to day on your dogs and Fifi (when I find hers eventually)
Don't worry, I will be grooming Fifi properly when I'm back in the salon. This was just to make do until then. I will have to bring a brush and comb from the salon. I really do have no idea where I've put the other ones!

✅ Puppies that would like to go through my puppy university programme 🎓
✅ Nervous or anxious dogs that need a little help gaining confidence with grooming and have owners willing to do training at home to help them.
✅ Dogs that have no issues with grooming
✅ Dogs that they would like to have a cuter style such as teddy bear trim or something fun like Fifi, and are willing to keep to a strict schedule to keep their dog in tip top condition
✅ Medium and small short haired dogs that need a full pamper, de-shedding, ear clean, nails, spa treatments
Unfortunately, I am unable to take on clients with:
❌ Reactive dogs - I bring Fifi with me to the salon so I can't take on dog reactive dogs. I no longer want to take on dogs that have reactive to tendancies to being groomed. This is for my own safety and mental health. I recommend that people that have dogs with issues see a behaviourist and work on grooming their dogs themselves at home. There is a fantastic book called "Taking the Grrr out of dog grooming" by Sue Williamson on Amazon.
❌ Large or giant breed dogs - my salon and equipment are just not suitable for them unfortunately. The largest I can accommodate are standard poodles or poodle crosses.
❌ Double coated medium/large dogs - breeds such as German Shepherd, Golden Retriever, Border Collie, Japanese Akita, Husky etc. My salon is not suitable as it is all wood and I can just never clean it enough afterwards, the hair gets everywhere! I have to hoover the ceiling 🙈 The largest dog of this type that I can do would be a Labrador.
❌Dogs that don't like their nails being trimmed. If your dog doesn't like their nails to be done, then I won't do them, they will have to be done at home or at the vets. I won't put a dog under stress for a nail trim, it can make them lose all trust in me and then they may not even allow me to do the groom.
❌Dogs that need handstrip

I do try and take pics when I can, not every dog is willing 🙈 It is much more important that the time I spend with your dogs is focused on increasing their tolerance/enjoyment of the groom, not on aesthetics and getting a cute photo. Photos are just a bonus!

At the beginning, I never thought I would see 1 year, let alone 4! I was only open for 8/9 weeks before the first lockdown and I thought that my business had ended before it had begun.

When your dog comes to "Fifi's Holistic Dog Grooming" every step of the grooming experience is thought about.
Take the bathing process for example, it is not simply a quick wash with some generic shampoo. I have tried and tested many brands of shampoo and I have found Ruff Barkinson to be one of the best. Vegan, cruelty free, as natural as possible and also environmentally conscious. Not to mention the cleaning power, kind to skin, natural but not overpowering scents. I also use their conditioner to put moisture back into the coat and leave them soft and shiny without silicones.
The water is just as important as the products used! I use a special ionic filtered shower head to help distribute the products in to the coat so that they can penetrate the skin and get to work. I actually have the same showerhead in my own shower it is that good! My skin is prone to eczema and irritation and I have found that it really helps to keep it at bay. Once I knew it worked I just had to get one for my salon so that the dogs could feel the benefit too!
