“A good groom is never cheap, and a cheap groom is never good.” – Jackie Grimmett
Insights from behind the grooming table...
We get it – grooming prices can be a bit of a shock if you’re used to paying £25–£30. But here’s the truth: when done properly, a 1.5 hour groom in 2025 needs to cost at least £55 just to break even.
Why? Because behind every groom is a long list of real costs that most people never see.
We’re talking about:
Insurance (for the business and your dog)
Safe, professional equipment (which constantly needs sharpening, servicing or replacing)
Ongoing training and CPD (because dogs don’t come with manuals)
Specialist products and quality shampoos (and no, we’re not using Fairy Liquid – but yes, some still are 😬)
PPE, utilities, internet, card fees, rent, tax, licenses, and labour – to name just a few
So when you see a full groom priced well under £55, something has to be missing.
Maybe it’s:
– Training
– Insurance
– Quality products
– Time and care
– Or fair pay for the person grooming your dog
In today’s climate, cheap groomers have no choice but to cut corners. It’s not sustainable otherwise.
So the real question is: is your dog worth that little?
Or do they deserve a safe, skilled, well-equipped groom from someone who’s trained, insured and still able to be in business next year?
💛 Thank you for supporting professional groomers. We see your dogs as more than “just a job” – they’re our daily responsibility, and we’re proud to do it properly.
