Absolutely devastated. My old lady cat took a funny turn at lunchtime today. Took her to the vets after work only to be told she had cancer. I had the option of palliative care but given her age, it was kindest to let her go as she would have succumbed eventually and still been uncomfortable even with pain relief.
Cleo was born in a pub in Guildford that a friend was running at the time- I met her the day after she was born & immediately picked her out as the one we wanted. She was the craziest kitten I’ve ever met- an absolute lunatic but such a gorgeous kitten. Cleo saw me through a marriage, a divorce, a pregnancy & 16 years of Oli, the loss of my furbaby Pips who was killed by a car at just 2 years old, the arrival of Beanz, the death of a parent and 5 house moves- and many many other life events. Boy was she feisty - she didn’t hold back and many visitors left with scratches 🙈 Whilst she was known for being a grumpy old lady, in the last couple of years she got dementia and had some kind of personality change turning into the sweetest lap cat who suddenly purred at everyone and was super friendly. Dementia meant she often forgot to put her tongue away and she would forget she had eaten miaowing for food straight after eating! She drove me bonkers wanting attention constantly but sat on my knee every night loving the attention and just purring away.
Before I said my goodbyes to her this evening, I gave her some Dreamies and she ate them purring away, although she did give the vet a swipe and a hiss after he prodded and poked her- just like the Cleo we all knew and loved.
So tonight, I’ve said goodbye to my little black and white furbaby who has been my companion for almost half of my life. She’ll be terribly missed 😔💔
Just 2.5 weeks shy of her 19th birthday- she’s now running free over Rainbow Bridge 🌈
