Dogs in need rescue charity

Dogs in Need is a registered charity which re-homes dogs no longer required by their present owners, or are in pounds and in desperate need of homes.

Re-homing in the Southern home counties. Operating largely in the Southern Counties, we seek to place unwanted dogs in suitable new homes, currently homing an average of 3 to 4 dogs per week. Dogs come to us in two ways. Their present owners choose to contact us because they no longer wish to keep their dog, typical causes being illness, emigration, marriage break-up, the dog's behavioural problem

s (often because the owners work and leave the dog alone), allergies and even the imminent arrival of a baby. We also take dogs from Pounds in areas with major stray problems, particularly Eire.

Odin is looking for his forever home. This beautiful Wolfhound mix came to us a while back, in terrible condition like so many sighthounds. Underweight, with skin problems and an old untreated injury to his eye that left him blind on the right side. The injured eye has been removed and Odin is now healed and in tip top condition to find his forever family. Although very large in size, Odin is a big baby at heart. He is a kind, very gentle and sensitive soul.
💙Odin can live with a large to medium size female k9 companion or as an only dog .🐶
💙no cats🐈‍⬛️
💙he is exceptionally clean in his kennel so house training should be very easy 🏡
💙he travels very well in the car 🚗
💙he is fantastic on the lead
💙 Odin is a pleasure to take to public places and dog friendly cafés
💙Odin is a crowd magnet and loves the fuss 🙈

Kiera is approximately 12 month old. She is a very dainty Collie mix. Like most Collies, Kiera is not doing great in kennels, she gets very anxious and we would love to find this beautiful girl her forever home as soon as possible. Kiera is not high energy, she is very affectionate and loves nothing more than a sniff and potter around followed by cuddles and belly rubs. She is great on the lead and enjoys her walkies. This lady is highly intelligent, food motivated and very trainable.

Jess is an active and energetic girl. She is very obedient, highly food motivated and very easy to train. She walks well on the lead, once over the initial excitement. This girl loves walking, getting out and about and the occasional swim.

Snoopy, our 18 month old Terrier mix boy is looking for his forever home 🏡.
This little chap joined us from the local dog pound. Snoopy was quite shy on arrival, however he made a great friend in Skippy (booked for a home) and has blossomed in his company.

Alma is looking for her retirement home. Alma is 10 years old, young at heart, healthy and fitter than me. She enjoys her walks, whizzing around and loves people. She is crate trained, house trained and travels well in the car. Not a fan of cats, even though most cats are bigger than her.

BABY RICKY - FOR REHOMING
Baby Ricky needs a home!
This big baby is just 6 months old and arrived into our care recently.
He is a fantastic boy, he is going to be huge!!!
Ricky has some basic training, he will however require this to be continued.
He has lived with another two dogs and a cat.
He is still full of puppy energy and play.
He does jump and is mouthy, this all puppy behaviour which is easily managed with correct training.
He will knock small people over, so ideally a home with older dog savvy children.

OZZY - FOR REHOMING
Ozzy has so much to offer a new family.
This goofy looking boy is only a baby approximately 6 months old...
He is excellent out walking, he sits on command and is learning to wait and give the paw...
Ozzy is definitely part collie with a few other breeds in the mix. He can be a little excitable but this is easy to correct.
He's not too fond of small furry creatures and could live with a mellow female k9 companion with proper introduction.

Sandy Mallinson - Announcement

Sadly we have the news that Sandy Mallinson, Honorary President of Dogs in Need, has passed away. She died peacefully at home with her son Matthew, devoted carer Janice and her much loved Jack Russell, Lily, by her side.

Dogs in Need was the inspiration of Sandy and Michael Mallinson who set up the charity over 40 years ago. Even though Sandy had retired as a Trustee of the charity in October 2022, she continued to take a keen interest and spoke with Debbie Spear most days to keep abreast of the current rescues.

Sandy was a great character and will be much missed by all of us at Dogs in Need.

These two beauties are ready to find their forever home......
Dumped in a local walking area a few weeks ago. Found by a family who live nearby. Both pups were in excellent condition and seem very well adjusted and socialised. They have started lead training and are doing well.
They will require further training in recall and some toilet training.
They can be homed with another K9 companion and are young enough to learn to live with a cat..
They are approximately 6 months old. Penny will need neutering at the appropriate time and Dogs In Need will contribute to this at the time.

Meet Shaun the little sheep 🤩😆❤️
This little rough coated mix breed is 14 weeks old and is currently living in foster with 2 Lurchers, an elderly Chihuahua and a cat. He would love a home with another dog for company and to play with. Shaun is full of puppy mischief, loves collecting shoes and socks. He is an affectionate, friendly and playful little boy. House training is going well but will need to be continued in his new home. We think he will be medium seized when fully grown.

Writing re-homing post after re-homing post for a dog that has been with us for way to long than they should be can be frustrating, in Troys case over 400 days, it makes us feel hopeless and very sad. The longer they are with us, the more we get to know and love them. We wish nothing more than for just one person to see them through our eyes. Not looking at the size, breed or colour. When we look at Troy we see a happy, always smiling, playful, affectionate and bouncy dog. We love his mischievous side, we love how clean and polite he is in his kennel. How he sits patiently in the morning waiting to go out. We love his sometimes over enthusiastic kisses and jumps. We love him because of all his unique Troy traits.

DAISY - FOR REHOMING
DAISY - Approx 2yr old alapaha bulldog x

❌ No children or visiting children
❌ Can not live with other dogs
😺 Could possibly live with dog savvy cats depending on circumstances
🏠 Quite and experienced home

Daisy was found tied to a park bench at the end of December, her chip was unfortunately unregistered so she has been in foster and is now ready to find her new family.
She appears to have been used, abused and dumped as she looks to have had at least 1 previous litter and is a very nervous girl although she has really started to come out of herself while in foster.
She is fearful of children and teenage boys and desperately tries to run away from them. She is not comfortable interacting with other dogs and can become defensive if pushed, but is fine walking around and past other dogs. She has paid little attention to the cats in the home and cats/foxes out on walks, although she can be a little unsure if cats pay her too much attention so she would do well with laid back independent cats.

Despite all she's been through she is super sweet and loves cuddles with adults and is looking for an experienced home that can take their time to help her really come out of her shell and experience all the good that life has to offer her.

She is crate and muzzle trained, happy to be left for a few hours, is non destructive and walks well on the lead with little pulling.

She is currently in south east London but can be transported anywhere in the UK. Her pictures have been viewed by a DLO who has stated they do not believe she is an XL Bully.

Romeo- for rehoming

Dogs in Need are hoping to help The Greyhound Trust rehome some of their Greyhounds.

Romeo is a 6 year old snuggle monster. He is a nervous boy when you first meet him, who just needs reassurance, patience and treats are always a great help too. A quieter home with another hound would be great but we wouldn’t rule out a new forever home without another dog. Romeo has done very well in foster homes and confidence has grown brilliantly. If you think you could be Romeos new family and help him realise that the outside world isn’t such a scary place we promise, you will become his whole world.

Major- for rehoming

Dogs in Need are hoping to help The Greyhound Trust rehome some of their Greyhounds.

Major is a 4 year old gentle giant loving fusses and neck scratches. He takes new places all in his long stride and has been on many offsite walks acting the perfect gentleman, who does likes a snooze in the local.

Major has retired due to a hock injury so we would recommend that outside adventures are not to be too long however, he wouldn’t mind this as he just enjoys being in your company, no matter where you are.

Badger is 4 going on a puppy. He is a happy bouncy boy that has a real zest for life. Loves going on adventures and cuddles with his human friends. He can get a little excited but is making great progress with learning how to walk well on the lead and listen to commands.

MO for rehoming

Dogs in Need are hoping to help The Greyhound Trust rehome some of their Greyhounds.

Mister Mo is the George Clooney of our Centre. He is 8 years old but he wouldn’t have you believe that, There is nothing he loves more than a good zoomie and tennis balls in the paddocks. Mo will need a home all to himself without other pets with and an understanding owner. He loves his bed and his own time, he is becoming and older gentleman after all. This does not mean that he doesn’t have his soft side though. If you are looking for a cheeky character companion and are experienced with hounds or larger breeds then Mo is the boy for you.
