Sights and Sniffs Dog Walking

Sights and Sniffs Dog Walking Walks and home visits to meet your dog's individual needs. Based in Christchurch Dorset. DBS checked and Insured. CPD Pet Sitting and Dog Walking Diploma. Hello!

As a pet owner myself, I know how disconcerting it is having to leave your much-loved pet under the care of others, especially someone you don’t know. I hope telling you a little about myself will help alleviate some fears and offer a little reassurance. My name is Joanna. My life has always been very animal centered, most recently with cats, dogs and horses. I am very passionate about animal welf

are, committed to providing the absolute best for all animals in my care. I am naturally a quiet person, friendly, gentle and patient. My previous work has always been in positions of trust. I worked with young children in a pre-school setting for many years, often taking on the role of 1:1 support worker for children with special educational needs. Most recently, I worked as a private cleaner for those who needed a bit of extra help around the home. My decision to take up cleaning was made following the diagnosis of my horses ill health. With my commitment to him as my driving force, cleaning provided me with the flexible hours I required to meet his increased need. I nursed him for 2 years until he sadly passed. The passing of my beloved horse has, in part, fuelled my decision to push forward with my dream of working with animals. So here is Sights and Sniffs!

Would you know what to do if your dog goes missing on a walk?

As a dog walker, this is one of the scariest situations I could imagine.

Yesterday I completed an amazing course covering how dogs typically behave when lost, what actions can actually make things worse, and how to give a missing dog the best possible chance of being found safely.

This training has given me practical tools and a clear action plan to follow in those critical first moments. It’s knowledge I hope I’ll never need to use but I’m very glad to have.

Last visit of the day was to Miss Poppy Doodles. Had some lovely cuddles in the shade before she disappeared in to a hedge and I had to try and poke her back out with a flash mop 😂

Staying safe in the heat today with house visits taking the place of walks.
Maverick's brain was kept busy with this knotted towel game.

We've had a bit of rain lately and Nero isn't a fan of that.
On this wet day I introduced a sniffy mat to keep his brain busy. As a very food motivated boy this game was a big hit! 🐾

Grass seed warning ⚠️🌱

Do you know the dangers that grass seeds can cause? Their tiny arrowheads attach onto dogs - particularly breeds with longer fur. They can pe*****te their way into the skin, causing harmful injuries that could potentially require surgery.

Always check your dog's fur thoroughly after woodland walks or running through meadows. Monitor their behaviour by keeping an eye out for the warning signs of grass seeds - this could be head shaking, limping, coughing, sneezing, paw licking and lethargy.

If you spot a grass seed, gently remove it with your hands or tweezers - if its burrowed deeper (sometimes you may not even see it!), take your dog to the vet immediately.

The road closures in Christchurch are causing a bit of a nightmare with my travel times.
Please excuse me if I'm running late tomorrow, I may be stuck in traffic but I will be on my way!
