While there may be no speed limit on the mountain section of the TT course, the rules of the road still apply. Leave the racing to the professionals.
However other areas of the Island will have speed limits in place that must be adhered too.

Happy Laa Boaldyn!
It's 1 May - the most joyous day of the Manx year!

The winter is behind us, the terrible threats of evil influences of last night are over, and all we have before us today is a celebration of the start of summer!
Yindyssagh!

Traditionally, Manx people would gather on the village greens to take part in a mock battle between the forces of summer and winter. And after summer emerged victorious, everyone set to enjoying music, dance, games and feasting...

A lovely description of this in Castletown comes from Dr John Clague's 'Manx Reminscences' (1911):

"On May Day a great feast was held in Castletown, and people from every part of the Island used to come in their holiday clothes.
A sham fight was held, a sign of the fight between summer and winter.
The summer company of ladies and gentlemen was led by the prettiest young woman, she was called the Queen of Summer; and the winter party of working men and working women were dressed in a q***r way, and in any way they liked, for fun and play, and the leader was called the King of Winter.
The winter party was driven by the summer party on the road to Scarlett, and when they reached as far as Scarlett, the fight was over, a sign that the sun had gone down in the west.
Then the company had meat and drink, and after that there was dancing and games of every kind.
They used to get as many fiddlers as they could, and people who were acquainted with each other made themselves into small companies, and enjoyed the company of each other in the best way they could."

We hope you are celebrating the start of summer wherever you are today (preferably without fighting!)

We are very saddened at the news that Penny (No. 6 as she spent her first 8 weeks being known to us) passed over the Rainbow Bridge yesterday.

Penny was the youngest pup from our very first litter with Millie and Romeo as her parents. She lived her life with Fran & Paul and was later joined by their children.

It is a sad time now, but hopefully the 14 years of great memories will be a comfort to you all.

After a great run of calls, tomorrow the weather gods have conspired against us and the Marina will not be calling due to the forecasted winds/direction.

Next visit for us will now be the Viking Mars on the 4th September.

We look forward to welcoming Hurtigruten's Maud for her first visit to Douglas on 27th April following a visit to St Kilda today. She will arrive at the pilot station at 0900hrs and will have the honour of being the last cruise ship to be piloted in by Capt Stephen Carter as the Island's Chief Pilot.

The ship will arrive with 263 passengers and 133 crew and will be enjoying tours around the Island including two beach cleaning parties with Beach Buddies Isle of Man at Derbyhaven.

She was a regular visitor in our 2022 season, and the Cruise Isle of Man team look forward to renewing friendships forged in 2022.

The ship will sail at 1730hrs for Waterford but will return to Douglas again on the 30th May.
