First walk of the new year was with lovely Emma! I took her to samphire hoe for the first time and she loved it 🥰 Lots of smells and plenty of space for her to have a run!

No where else I’d rather be on my birthday than in muddy puddles and covered in fur! 😂

🐓🏥 Chicken Gut health, not something we often hear about but do you know how important it is? Let’s talk about it!

🧠It is said that Gut health (in all animals) is like the second brain! The brain and gut is in constant communication and the health of your animals gut plays a huge role in their overall physical and mental health!

🤒 What are the signs of an unhealthy gut in your chickens?
- Recuced appetite 🌽
- Watery p**ps 💩
- Crop slower than normal 🐌
- Reduced activity within the flock🐔
- Worms being visable 🪱 (please note your birds can be infected with worms without you noticing, once you see evidence of worms in their p**p then the infestation has advanced and should be treated accordingly)

🚑What can cause an unhealthy gut in chickens?
- Long term Antibiotic use 💊
- Poor feed Quality 🌽
- Worms 🪱
- Poor bio security 🫧
- Lack of access to clean water 💦
- Poor ventilation in coop 💨
- Over crowding 🐓🐓🐓
- Mycotoxins 🦠

🐔How can we improve the gut health in chickens?
- High Quality Feed 🌽
- Access to Fresh water 💦
- Natural Gut friendly foods such as garlic🧄 ACV in water 🍎 natural yogurt 🥛 can be added to normal feed
- ✨PROBIOTICS! ✨

🦠 Why give your hens probiotics?
Probiotics are a live bacteria that is essential for gut health! Probiotics is known as the good bacteria for the gut.
“The goal of feeding a probiotic is to populate the digestive tract with beneficial bacteria, so pathogens like E. coli, Salmonella, and Clostridium have less room to grow,”

🚑 Give a dose of Probiotics after your bird has had a course of antibiotics as antibiotics also kills of the good bacteria, it is essential we get the good bacteria back into the gut so the hen can continue to heal and get back to her normal self! 🩷

🦠 Poultry Pro biotics comes in many forms, some come in treat form, others can be mixed into daily feed or added to the water but personally I use Beryls friendly gut bacteria, it comes in a powder form that need to be kept cool, mix some water into it and syringe it into the beak. However if you choose to syringe anything into the beak of a chicken you must be aware of the airway at the back of the beak and miss this area. You can find handly diagrams online so you know what side is safe to syringe this product - if you do not feel comfortable with this you can ask a veterinarian to help👩🏻‍⚕️
Once water has touched this product it must be used quickly. It is Great stuff but I will warn you…. IT STINKS 🤢

🩷When should you use this product?
According to the company this is when they recommend giving a dose
- At day old for Newly hatched chicks to get them of to a good start🐣
- When hens are rehomed as the stress of transportation can disturb the gut flora🚗
- When hens have Diarrhoea or wet droppings💩
- Following an antibiotic treatment
- Monthly to maintain a balanced and healthy gut flora 🦠
