Reggie 🐾
2013-2024

Absolutely heart broken to announce we lost our gorgeous scruffy boy Reggie yesterday. What we suspected was a problem with the disks in his neck changed once he started showing new symptoms and after seeing a specialist neurologist, it turned out he actually had a brain tumour, as they present similarly in the early stages.

He was the centre of our world for the last decade and has been our emotional support through everything. He could be a little rascal sometimes (as most terriers are) but the love he gave us was so pure and deep and he could make us laugh through the darkest times.

I am broken losing him so soon after my Dad.
I hope if there is an afterlife Dad and Reggie will be reunited 🤍

Thank you so much to for looking after him and giving us the best last hours with him we could have had. All the staff were incredible.

How does massage therapy actually work to reduce a dog’s pain?

Massage has many benefits on a cellular level, manual pressure of the tissues increases blood flow and helps flush out any toxins and irritants in the cells which helps improve tissue health and lessens pain over time- but pain can be alleviated during the duration of the massage due to the pain gate theory-

The pain gate theory offers insight into the relationship between massage and pain. This theory was developed by psychologists Ronald Melzack and neuroscientist Patrick David Wall in 1965 and suggests that pain signals can be blocked by non-painful stimuli like massage. There are nerve gates located in the spinal cord, and it is believed non-painful stimulus from the peripheral nerves can block the gate, preventing the pain signals being sent to the brain and causing the sensation of pain.

In simple terms, if the pleasant sensation of massage is present, the body cannot receive the pain signals from that area!

Most people will think of baby scans when they hear the word Ultrasound but did you know Therapeutic Ultrasound is beneficial for soft tissue and joints too?? It has long been used on humans by physiotherapists, I had ultrasound treatment myself on torn ligaments and muscles in my shoulder and felt a huge improvement after just one session, so I know first hand how well it works!

Heres an extract from my BSc Canine Therapy Dissertation paper explaining science behind its effectiveness in treating dogs-

Therapeutic ultrasound uses pulses of sound waves that cause microvibrations in the tissue which
creates heat energy, bringing more blood flow to the area. Increased blood flow supplies more oxygen and nutrients to the area, which is essential for tissue healing and tissue health.
Studies have shown that low intensity ultrasound improves the rate of tissue repair and regeneration in muscles, tendons, and ligaments after injury (Best, et al, 2016). Ultrasound is a form of heat therapy but can pe*****te much deeper into the muscle than superficial heat applied in the form of heat packs, as at 1MHz it can pe*****te up to 5cm of the muscle tissue. Ultrasound increases the elasticity of the tissues allowing for an improvement in mobility and range of motion of the limb by increasing the intramuscular temperature. Ultrasound can be beneficial during the early inflammation stages of wound healing as it stimulates
tissue repair if used correctly. Ultrasound can accelerate the inflammatory phase of repair which will
speed up the healing time. The mechanical effects of ultrasound also accelerate tissue metabolism by promoting cellular permeability, offering a pain-relieving effect by speeding up the removal of irritants in the muscle cells.

Great session with Bluebell today!

Bluebell has been off on her holidays with her family for the last week and has done lots of extra walking, which caused more stress on her hindlimbs so she had developed a temporary limp. To help this today in her session I used the Therapeutic Ultrasound machine on her stifles to help warm up the muscles and get the blood flowing to aid healing. She then had some massage on her hind legs and back to relieve more tension.
She seemed much more relaxed and was moving better straight after her session so I cant wait to see her progress over the next few weeks!

If you think your dog could benefit from treatment get in touch today!

Meet our first 2 ZenDogs!!

Barnabas is a beautiful 10 year old Collie struggling with Arthritis in his hips. Barnabas can be nervous with new people but he settled well for his first massage taster session after the assessment and let me use heat pads and gentle massage to get him used to the process! We will be starting a course of Therapeutic Ultrasound in his next few sessions, which will help soothe his painful joints. Barnabas does not like water so hydrotherapy was not an option for him, so i’m so glad I can help out this lovely lad!

Bluebell has had issues with a luxating patella (kneecap) and cruciate ligament disease for around 4 years and had surgery to deepen her patella groove, but unfortunately this did not cure the issue completely and her patella still slips out from time to time causing her lots of pain and discomfort. As well as this she has developed arthritis in her hips.
She absolutely loved her first massage, settling right down once I started and kept getting back on the mat after i’d finished asking for more!!

I am accepting more clients so get it touch for more details and to get booked in!

Lovely review from my first appointment!! Thanks Jacqui 🐕

Beth came to see us last week and dealt with two crazy collies with total professionalism. Barnabas has arthritis and doesn't like to be touched but Beth managed to relax him enough to perform some massage. She was full of good advise, understanding and kindness. I look forward to seeing her next time. I'm hoping the more the dogs meet her the more they'll calm down!

A little bit of information about our services!

Usually post op treatment plans will require anywhere from 6-10 sessions and ongoing conditions will need regular sessions anywhere from once a week to once a month, depending on the condition and your budget. Most insurances cover alternative therapies now- Myotherapy can be very beneficial along side Hydrotherapy so it doesn’t have to be one or the other!

One off bookings are also welcome just to pamper your pooch!

As part of this price I can supply exercises you can do yourself in between sessions and ongoing mentorship over WhatsApp or email.

I will be mobile so can come to you for your dog’s treatments, no need for traveling!

Message me for more details and to enquire about booking your dog in for treatment!
