We have been seeing one of our lovely patients ‘Dilly Bob’ very regularly this last month and are pleased to say he has made a full recovery ❤️‍🩹

Kauri-Roxy is a 15 year old Selkirk Rex and her bloods were excellent 🩸

We wish her all the best with her recovery ❤️‍🩹

Look at the handsome T C 🐱

T C came in for his annual booster vaccination, when a mass was noticed by Mr.Russell.

T C then came to see us 2 weeks ago to have 1 of his kidneys removed.

Despite all the things T C has been through, he seems to be doing as well as expected and his stitches have been removed today, following his surgery.

T C is such a gentle and loving cat and we wish him all the best with his continued recovery ❤️‍🩹

Her mum produced 5 of these adorable kittens 12 weeks ago and we had the pleasure of meeting all of them 🐱

We are sharing this to highlight the importance of checking your pets frequently, especially in the warm weather.

This is a case of fly strike, also known as Myiasis.

Fly strike is a major welfare problem. It is a painful and sometimes fatal condition caused by flies laying their eggs on the animal. These then hatch into maggots, which start to eat the flesh of the animals skin.

This is considered an emergency. It is most commonly seen in long coated patients, rabbits and guinea pigs.

It is important in the warm weather to make sure your pets are groomed and cleaned regularly.

If you notice any maggots or fly eggs on your pet, please contact the surgery immediately.

Other symptoms can include; patches of wet fur or hair loss, foul smell, lethargy, inappetence and open wounds.

It’s that time of year again… the dreaded grass seeds 🌱

Grass seeds are a small and pointy seed that are attached to the tops of long grass stems.

They can easily attach themselves to your pets fur and burrow into the skin. They are most commonly found in the feet and ears but also other places such as in the eye or up the nose.

Symptoms can include shaking of the head, excessive licking of the paws, swelling between the toes, limping, violent sneezing, chewing or licking a sore spot on the skin and rubbing of the eyes.

Usually they will require sedation to safely remove the grass seed.

We recommend to check your pets fur after a walk and removing any grass seeds found straight away. If grass seeds are left untreated, they can migrate, which can cause serious problems.

If you believe your pet might have a grass seed, please contact the surgery as soon as possible.

Remember, if it’s too hot for your hands or your bare feet, then it’s too hot for their paw pads! ⚠️

If you’re unsure whether it’s okay to let your pet go for a walk on pavements, a simple way to test the temperature is by holding your bare skin on the tarmac for five seconds ⏱️

If you find it painful, then your pet will find it painful to walk on!

To protect your pet, it’s best to avoid walks during the hottest part of the day, which is usually between 8am and 6pm. If you can't safely exercise your dog, missing a day won't hurt.

Being a Vet Nurse is an outstanding accomplishment, it’s a passion and our aim is to always provide the best care to every patient we see 🐾

It takes years of education, practice and studying to earn the title of an RVN 📚

COMING SOON... To a veterinary practice not far from you... Three ‘Little’ Pigs and one Big Bad Wolf! This weekend Mr Russell, RVN Jo and TVN Siân are your team on call. You will find them trying to work out how to eat their cake with a face mask on in between seeing the various emergencies that are on offer! Take care of yourselves, we hope you’re all doing okay...

“Standing at the drive thru...”🐶 Currently reception is being manned by our canine receptionist Maverick, because as you are aware dogs cannot currently transmit the virus, making your time at the surgery a lot safer. He may ask if you’d like fries with that, or maybe if you’d like to go large for 50p... 🍟 In all seriousness though, we are aiming to decrease our footfall into and out of the practice by asking clients to use our new “Drive Thru” system. On arrival at the surgery, you may either phone to let us know you are here, or pop along to our drive thru window which will be manned by one of our nurses. Let us know you’re here, then pop back to your car and wait to be called in. In some cases, we are even conducting some of our consultations outside! Currently on the menu at the drive thru... 🐶 Medication pick ups 🐯 Checking in for appointments 🐶 Payments You may feel that we’ve gone mad, but honestly these measures are in place for the safety of our clients and our staff. #ImLovingIt #OtherFastFoodBrandsAreAvailable Disclaimer: Maverick isn’t really on the drive thru window, you’ll most probably find SVN Annie there, sorry in advance.
