Ever wanted to have a go at rally obedience but unsure where to start, or are you looking for something new to do with your dog then this is the perfect workshop for you.

Rally involves you and your dog working as a team to navigate a course with numbered signs indicating different exercises to perform; think of it as a sort of 'obedience exercise obstacle course' including simple exercises.

This workshop will be a great introduction to the sport of rally obedience. The first part of the workshop will be going over signs and how to work your dog through them and the second part we'll be practicing some courses.

In this interactive session, we’ll guide you through step-by-step training techniques to help your dog master impressive tricks such as spin, rollover, high-five, and more. It’s a fantastic way to boost your dog’s confidence, stimulate their mind, and have fun together! You can also work on gaining your Trick Dogs UK award titles.

A great weekend of training here at Star Paws.

We had our monthly rally class, everyone’s getting the hang of level 1 and 2 now and it’s great to see them all progressing. 🐶🐾

Our next date is the 1st September, this will possibly be our last outdoor date before we move back inside out of the winter weather. If you’d like to book on please get in touch.

We also had the lovey Kim down on Sunday for a heelwork to music workshop, everyone had great fun and the dogs looked like they were all heading home for a nap.

We're finally getting a bit of summer but remember even though we might like to go out in the sunshine, it can be dangerous for your dogs.

Here are our top tips for keeping your dogs safe -

✔️Walk your dogs during cooler times of the day, first thing in the morning or late in the evening.

✔️Make sure your dog has plenty of water available.

✔️Ensure your dog has access to cooler areas, either a cool place in the house with a fan or shady parts of the garden.

✔️Brush any knots out of your dog's coats, this will help air pass through their coat and help them regulate their body temperature.

✔️Make your dog some yummy frozen treats for snack time, fill a kong with yogurt and treats then pop it in the freezer, or if you don't have a kong try making some ice cube snacks.

❌Avoid walking during the middle of the day, especially on pavements. Tarmac absorbs heat and can be a lot hotter than the air temperature. Test the temperature by placing the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds, if you can't hold your hand there its too hot for your pet's paws and could lead to burns.

❌Don't leave your dog in a car even with the windows open, parked cars can heat up fast and dogs can quickly get heat stroke.

Another great rally class at the weekend, it’s great to see the teams progressing and also new teams coming to have a go.

Check out our current June Pocklington puppies and their amazing lead work. This is their second week practicing their lead walking and they are all doing a fabulous job. 👏

Another great weekend with the dogs, this time we were down in Leicester running another heelwork to music premiere competition as part of the committee for Canine Freestyle GB.

It was great to see everyone and all the dogs seemed to have great fun, also congratulations to those who qualified for the Crufts semi-finals.

If anyone is interested in starting heelwork to music we currently have an online 12-week course taking place that goes over all the basics to get you started plus information on steps towards competing. Another great rally working last weekend, these guys are progressing nicely with the exercises and are now looking at entering their first competitions.
