What’s your dog’s favorite cue to perform? 🐶

“My dog isn’t food-motivated”
✅Yes they are!✅
Food is a primary reinforcer, which means they naturally love it!
Other rewards (such as toys and verbal praise) are secondary reinforcers, which means your dog has to learn to like them. This means that food is one of the BEST rewards! So why isn’t your dog taking the food?
1️⃣. It isn’t high value enough, or they are used to it / bored of it.
2️⃣. The situation is too stimulating and is causing excitement / anxiety / stress.
3️⃣. You are asking your dog for too much.
How can you help?
1️⃣. Mix up the treats! Try new things and keep it fun and exciting.
2️⃣. Ensure that you aren’t asking your dog for something that they are physically or emotionally unable to handle.
3️⃣. Make the delivery of the treat more exciting.

☀️ Help your dogs cool down!! ☀️
❄️ Keep dogs inside with curtains shut to keep a bit of shade for them.
❄️ Cool mats are great or alternatively a cool wet towel on the ground for them to snooze on.
❄️ Keep your dogs paws wet and wet the back of their neck. Allow access to a paddling pool in the shade if they love water!
❄️ Put ice cubes in your dog’s water and if you are worried about how much they are drinking, drop a few frozen peas in every so often to encourage them to drink more.
❄️ Please ignore advice suggesting ice cubes are dangerous. They can only be bad if the dog is already showing signs of heat stroke. Ice cubes CAN be given, and can be made more exciting by adding biscuits or freezing banana or berries in them.
❄️ Do not hesitate to call a vet if you think your dog is showing signs of heat stroke. This is one of the biggest killers of dogs in this weather and it isn’t worth the risk!
❄️ Avoid walking your dog during the day. If you need to walk them, go early morning or as late on the evening as possible. Stick to the shade and grass.
🏎️ ZOOMIES! 🏎️
Every dog has them!
Legs everywhere, tails wagging, up the walls, one side of the house to the other in half a second!
This is normal!
And actually, it’s really GOOD for your dog! 🤩 ✅
It’s been shown that only happy and healthy dogs have zoomies!
So, when your dog has that mad five minutes, just remember, they’re happy and healthy! 🥳

Dogs are very forgiving, so when we make mistakes in our training, they quickly get over it and are able to try again and adapt.

One of the best methods for improving your own training is to train other species. 🙊
I have been lucky enough to train a huge amount of animals, including…
🐷 Farm animals (cows, sheep, alpacas, and chickens)

🐵 Zoo-type animals (meerkats, otters, wallaby’s, lemurs, etc.)
🐱 Horses, cats, rabbits, and fish (yes fish! Goldfish actually have a 6-month memory!)
I’ve attached a video of me training an otter to spin in a circle! 🤣 🦦
