Salinae Rattery

It’s been an odd sort of year here at Salinae. Unfortunately I was hit with a health problem for which I am awaiting surgery. It means I’ve not had any pairings and won’t do until the surgery is done and I have recovered. I do not know how long this will be so for now everything is on hold. If you are looking for rats in and around the midlands area I highly recommend going along to a Midland Rat Club show - have a chat with the people there. Wishing you all a happy and healthy 2024 🖤

Unfortunately we had some sad news - Russet’s babies were sadly stillborn and Doré didn’t get pregnant. Luckily Russet is doing great and is her usual self. I will be trying some different pairings soon so fingers crossed for those.

It’s world rat day. Here’s a throw back to years ago when Angel was a baby. He was such a good boy. Angel by name and Angel by nature. I miss you sweet one 🥰

Had a lovely day at the MRC Rat show yesterday. I did the scribing for the varieties judging. Loads of entries and some beautiful rats. I didn’t enter anyone as these next pairings will be my second generation so after that I can enter into novice. Exciting times :)

I’m back on the page!! So sorry to those of you who I’ve not replied to. I’ll be going through my messages and getting back to you all as soon as I can. I don’t currently have any kittens available, but do have some pairings so will post updates as I have them. Happy belated new year all!

Duchess’ babies surprised me with 2 little roans. Got a nice mix of smee (Siamese), Wheaten, Burmese and Sable. Also more rexes which is great ❤️

On a side note if you’ve sent me messages or are waiting for any replies please bare with me. I have Covid and am suffering at the moment.

Happy World Rat Day from Salinae Rattery!

Here’s a throwback pic to my first heart rat Havoc. She was the cheekiest, most loving, funniest rat who loved nothing more than jumping down my top. She even managed to stowaway on a trip to the supermarket once 😂

Rats really do make great companion animals, so I’m glad of this day to celebrate them 🐀🐀❤️

Sugar and Tilly’s litters are growing up well. Nog has also had her litter - of 1 baby! Looking at the milk band it’s gonna be a chonky Rex ❤️

Eek! This is not a drill! The first of the Rex beans are here ❤️ 7 little ones with perfect milk bands. Sugar is being the perfect momma. She was quite happy to come out for cuddles and a little wander so I took the opportunity to check the babies over briefly. Hopefully there will be more little eepers over the next few days too ☺️

Had a lovely time at the NFRS Colchester show. Got to meet some lovely rats and lovely people. Even came home with a new agouti rat - the one on the left in the last pic 😂❤️

Well, after the NFRS rejecting 'Mischief Managed' because there is another rattery with 'Mischief' in the name, I have resubmitted requesting 'Salinae' which is the Roman name for my town. I will update when I have an answer. Fingers crossed!

Sad news - the NFRS has refused my registration of Mischief Managed as there is already a rattery with 'Mischief' in the name. Therefore I need to come up with a new name. Open to suggestions - ideally something geeky, or game related, Stephen King, Anne Rice, Comic Books or just a nice word. Ideas anyone?

A bittersweet time here as the pet home babies have headed off to their fabulous new homes now. These litters have kept me on my toes. I kept them back for longer as they have been slow growers and I wanted to make sure that everything was ok before they went to their forever homes.

The intro of the baby coffee boys to the Rex youngsters has gone really well. Today they’ve moved up to the big cage (hence being bare until I made sure no squabbles!)

Meet Scarlett 🖤 Her former humans made the very brave decision to let Scarlett come and live with the gang here after she had been sad and lonely since being on her own when her friend passed away. They weren’t in a position to get her a new friend. She is already settled in so well. She and Miss Piggy have really taken to each other and can generally be found snuggled up in the hay 😍 It’s been so warm that we’ve spent the last few days in the shed with the air con on, so she hasn’t yet explored outside.
