Guinea pig tails!

You might notice that guinea pigs do not have external tails. 👀 Many generations back tailed guinea pigs would have existed, but the tail served no purpose to this species or may have even been a disadvantage.

So, evolution has caused them to cease to exist.😮 However, skeletally guinea pigs do still have tails. They have seven caudal vertebrae that extend beyond their pelvis. These are their vestigial tail - as shown in the x-ray below.😎

This! And don't be afraid to have a conversation with your vet if they ate not a specialist about not having all the answers and finding out together.

A guinea pig friendly vet.
Getting your guinea pigs from a reputable source means they will be able to advise on a local vet and surgeon. A good vet will not necessarily mean the whole practice have equally good skills.
The label "exotic vet" does not always mean the best.

One of the things I adore about cavies is their capacity to love. This is just a mama and babies having a snooze. The baby in the middle isn't hers. There's another extra baby fast asleep under her and, just after I took this, a seventh piled in for a cuddle too. Aunties and grandmas all clean them and cuddle with them. Two of my boars are in adjoining pens and the babies can fit through and go and get a wash and a cuddle with them, too. 🥰
