Have you mixed up your dog’s names? Or even called your dogs by your partner or children’s name? This is so easily done but it does make us laugh when we muddle them up! Here John Spicer is demonstrating this beautifully 🤣😜 Sound on 🔈
Welcome Jessie! Here to join the fun in our recall focused class today, and didn’t she do well! We played games such as the food circuit and hide and seek, as well as coming away from food and other puppy distractions! Super work Jessie!! 🤗🥰🤩 Get in touch if you’d like to join in with your puppy.
Heelwork practice! Step 1) in a stationary position reward your dog at variable time intervals for continuously staring at your hand that is in your formal heel walking position. Step 2) proof this by moving your other limbs and observing if the dog continues to look at your hand and ignore the other movements (clip not shown). Step 3) throw treats out, just out of reach of your dog, and ask them to find the heel position. Step 4) with your dog in heel position and looking at your hand, try to walk past the treats on the floor without the dog eating them and ideally without them looking away from your hand. Good effort by all! Some more tempted by food than others 😂😜😍
Welcome Gary!! The newest member of our puppy class this evening was Gary! Progressions for the pivot.
Teaching your puppy or dog how to coordinate and move their back end is an often overlooked skill that can help them greatly with their strength, balance and mobility.
One way of progressing the pivot is to get the dog to put their front feet on a wobbly surface such as a cushion, or to ask them to step over something with their back legs while they pivot round.
Give this a go at home with your dog by asking them to put their front feet on a book, cushion, box or anything else you can find around the house.
Let us know how you get on.
Agility for fun!! Peggy and Ember practicing the components of agility and having FUN! 🤩 If you want to try this out with your dog then contact us via facebook or email at [email protected]
Puppies practicing cue control! Starting with the ‘simple’ behaviour of a “sit” - If you put your hands by your side and try not to move your body at all, can your dog/puppy sit when you cue them with just your voice alone? Then try to not say a word but cue them with just your hand/body movements. What do they do? If your dog/puppy doesn’t respond, wait a few seconds then lure them into position. What is the picture your dog has that cues them to sit? Let us know how you get on with this?!
Where’s your dog’s happy place?! For Kipper, it’s where he can run, sniff and be free!!
Combining different individual behaviours to create behaviour chains that help to proof and strengthen the individual elements. Being able to go to your mat when it’s next to your chair is a whole different matter to going to your mat when it’s in the middle of the room!! Maya Searle
