After giving Chocolate’s stable a good old clean out the other day it was time for Clare to put down Chocolate’s fresh new easibed. 💚
Clare mentioned ‘I use 8 bales of easibed, aiming for the bed to be at least 6 inches deep.
Chocolate has a 3-quarter bed allowing room for his water and feed buckets at the front of the stable. 🐴
I always have his haynet at the back of the stable as he tends to drop a lot of the hay onto the floor, having the haynet at the back prevents him dropping the hay over the door making a mess – I can easily pick the hay off the top of his easibed to reuse it.
I also add banks to Chocolate’s bed just in case he lies down a little too close to the stable wall, the banks also offer more protection to his head and hocks when rolling.
He loves a roll in his easibed!💚

We caught up with Clare from Team Sweet as she talked about stable enrichment for horses.
Whether your horse comes in during the day, the night or for prolonged periods of time, we need to ensure that we prevent our horses from becoming bored or stressed when stabled.
What does Enrichment mean?
Enrichment is the action of improving the quality or value of something.
Enrichment for your horse allows them to have a choice which can positively contribute to their mental and physical needs.
Did you know by stimulating your horses’ natural behavioural instincts when stabled, it can help prevent development of boredom and stress behaviours?
Such as:
💚Box Walking
🐴Wind Sucking
💚Aggression
🐴Pawing
Enrichment activities can include:
💚Equine company – as horses are herd animals, where possible try keeping an equine friend nearby as this can help to keep your horse calm.
🐴Radio/Mirrors – can help to keep horse’s company when equine friends are not an option.
💚Hiding or hanging fruit and veg in the stable – this is a great way to keep your horse busy.
🐴Forage cubes, hay slow feeders and treat balls – all of these allow your horse to work for their food.
💚Horse Likit matt – a great way for your horse to experiment with different smells, tastes, and textures.
🐴Apple bobbing – cut some slices and pop them in your horse’s water bucket.
💚Toys – there is such a selection to choose from these days.
Chocolate has a hanging salt lick and normally a treat ball to keep him busy when stabled – I do like the idea of introducing a hay ball to encourage Choc to eat a little more hay, and looking at all the toys that are now available to buy, I don’t think it will be long before he has one.
