Love Ted, love this programme! 🥰

Ted, the scruffy Patterdale terrier who wandered into Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing, has become far more than a background presence — he’s a bona fide member of the show’s gentle, eccentric family. Introduced during the series’ middle run, Ted’s easy charm and mischievous curiosity quickly won viewers’ hearts, offering a kind, canine counterpoint to the pair’s reflective humour.

Mostly described as a Patterdale terrier (with a surprising DNA mix revealed later), Ted is actually owned by the show’s producer, which helps explain how naturally he fits into the crew.

He appears regularly on the series and online, where an official Instagram account and forthcoming “pawtobiography” have only increased his fanbase.

More than a cute cameo, Ted embodies the programme’s warmth: a small, rescue-background dog who mirrors the show’s themes of friendship, recovery and the quiet pleasures of the British countryside. Whether stealing a sandwich or sitting patiently by the riverbank, he’s become an unmistakable part of why audiences keep returning to this comforting corner of television.

We ask so much of our dogs, don’t we?

To stay quiet even though barking is their voice.
To keep moving even though sniffing is how they understand the world.
To fit neatly into our busy lives when their instincts were shaped long before pavements, leads, and schedules existed.

Yes — boundaries matter. Safety matters. Good manners matter.
But somewhere in the middle, we can forget that our dogs still need to be dogs.

When we give them space to use their nose, to communicate, to explore, to pause, to process… we’re not “spoiling” them. We’re meeting a need. We’re respecting their language. And we’re giving them a life that feels natural, not restricted.

A bit more patience.
A bit more time to sniff.
A bit more freedom where it’s safe.
A few more chances to express who they really are.

The more we understand their world, the easier it becomes for them to live in ours.

Let’s meet them halfway — with compassion, balance, and the reminder that being a dog is not a problem to fix, but a language to listen to. 💙🐾

I’m excited to share that The Happy Dog Club has upgraded to a new dog transport van – fully equipped with bespoke fitted crates designed with safety, comfort, and cleanliness in mind.

My old doggy car has served us well over the past couple of years, but this new setup takes things to the next level for the dogs in my care.

Each crate has been custom-built to provide the highest standards of safety and comfort:

✅ Crash tested using rigorous deceleration sled testing for maximum protection during travel.

✅ Rear escape hatches for added safety in emergencies.

✅ Separate sealed compartments to keep dogs secure and comfortable.

✅ Non-slip matting for stability and comfort.

✅ Washout drainage holes for quick and thorough cleaning and disinfecting.

This upgrade means safer, cleaner, and more comfortable journeys for every dog we transport — and extra peace of mind for their owners. 🐾

Today is a very sad day. I learnt that one of my dear little Rommie rescues has passed over the rainbow bridge.

Gina - you gave me so much happiness 🥰

You knew your own mind, was full of spirit and personality and always loved a cuddle.
We wouldn't have had you any other way!

Ru and Kell have gave you a fantastic life over the past two years. You wanted for nothing and you had so much love, affection and attention.

Run free beautiful girl. You may be over the rainbow bridge, but you'll always be with me on my walks with your Rommie sister Kizzy, Ted and the gang 💔
