It’s been a very busy day today at the centre, as many of you will have seen via our stories, this morning we had a trip to the vets with 3 of our animals. On the vet trip we took Ripley the bearded dragon, Bailey the boa and Messi the tegu.

As most of you know, several weeks ago Ripley had to go to the vets to have part of her tail amputated due to a large lump that had grown during the mid/lower part of her tail. Sadly due to the lump growing so large before she came into our care, it wasn’t within her best interests to have it removed due to complications. We’re very happy to say that today she went in for her post op check and to have her stitches removed and she has healed perfectly. We want to say a massive thank you to everyone who donated to her veterinary treatment during this process, it’s amazing supporters like you that mean we can continue to do our important work and help even more reptiles in need!

Bailey the boa also got seen by our lovely vet and is now on some treatment due to congestion and will need nebulising twice daily until he starts to improve. This means we now have to create a special nebulising box to ensure Bailey can receive the treatment correctly and get the full benefits.

Messi the tegu sadly needs a lot more extra care and will also need some more ongoing veterinary treatment to give her the very best chance of recovery. She has an internal infection which has become quite nasty and causing her some discomfort. She is now starting a course of antibiotics to help get this under control and will also be requiring some extra vitamins, warm baths to help with some rehydration, along with more samples such as faecal samples and bloods. Sadly we don’t have much history on her which can often make these vet trips a little harder. However, we are doing our very best for her and will do everything it takes to get her back to full health. We have gotten back to the centre and have completely deep cleaned her enclosure and simplified the substrates in order to keep things as clean as possible while she’s undergoing treatment, she’s had a nice warm bath along with lots of cuddles and has been busy making her new bed comfy for the night.

As a charity we rely heavily on donations so if anyone can help donate towards the veterinary treatment it will be very much appreciated. Today’s bill came to £200 and is set to increase as Messi will need further care so any help is greatly appreciated, thank you!

Don't forget our tortoise health checks are this Sunday in the Brockswood classroom.

Our team will be there from 10am-3:30pm to check your shelled friends over before they go into hibernation (and of course those who don't) and answer any questions you may have. We will also still be trimming nails and filing beaks on the day if they need doing.
If you have never been to one of our health checks, please pop into the shop at Brockswood where the lovely volunteers will direct you on where to go.
We look forward to seeing you on the day!

Helo everyone,

We are currently looking to fill a fundraising volunteer role to help us generate more income for the charity. With winter fast approaching and temperatures dropping, it is always a more challenging time of the year as our electric bill increases significantly.

We are already on platforms such as Vinted, however we are finding that with our time largely taken up caring for the animals and associated admin, we are not utilising sites such as Vinted enough.

If you find yourself with a few spare hours each week, we would love to hear from you!!
Please message us directly if you would like to help.

Thank you

On her way home!! 💚
Ripley has had her surgery, still very, very sleepy, but she is going to be ok.
In the end, she has had to have part of her tail removed. The lump had grown too much and had embedded itself in the surrounding tissues.

Thank you for everyone's support and generous donations 💚🙏
YOU have helped Ripley, and we are forever grateful x

As a rescue, we are never quite sure who will come through our doors needing help next, but we will always do our best for those seeking our help. We received a call from a lady who rescued a lost bearded dragon after a child spotted her clinging to a tree - it is thought that the poor dragon may have been there for some time and very lucky to have not been attacked by a predator before she was found. Sadly, although she is bright and alert despite her ordeal, she is not out of the woods yet as the poor dragon has a very large, possibly infected, lump protruding from her tail unlike anything that we have seen in our 35 years of rescuing reptiles. After a call to one of our vets, they suggested as we feared, that this lump would require surgery, histology, and ongoing treatment. Now that she has had a day to settle in and fill her belly, we are in the process of arranging her surgery. While our vets are compassionate and often provide us with discounts as an animal rescue charity, the costs are still significant, especially as we currently care for over 100 other reptiles who may also need veterinary attention, not to mention the increasing daily expenses associated with their care during a time when we are witnessing a rise in abandoned reptiles.

We suspect little Ripley, as our team has affectionately named her, may have been abandoned due to this lump and the associated treatment costs. We will never abandon a reptile in need and will do whatever it takes to help her recover, but if you would consider lending her a helping hand with a donation toward her surgery and aftercare, we know she would be as grateful as we are for your support!

Despite her challenges, Ripley is a calm and friendly bearded dragon, and we think she is absolutely stunning. Unfortunately, reptiles often receive less attention compared to the more commonly adored fluffy animals, but every creature deserves life without pain or discomfort—and ultimately, a happy forever home. Let’s make this happen together!

Meet Slinky! A beautiful Corn snake needing a forever home 🏡
Slinky came to us a couple of years ago, after being found stray. There is an old injury that healed a long time ago and doesn't cause any issues.
Eating and shedding well, Slinky has a good temperament.
