They're back!

Rubricatochromis exsul , or Turkana Jewel Cichlids, are a relatively new species within the trade, now available at a brilliant price too, just £10. I've previously saw this species at £40-50 per pair!

We got 10 of these last week, and all of them were gone before midday Saturday morning, the day they went on sale😲

3 of these at least, are already sold. If you'd like to add these to your collection, be quick!

They have fed this morning like gannets!

We are now stockists of Nitrico Goop!

A revolutionary product that promises (and by all accounts actually does) to genuinely change the hobby forever.

Fish in cycle? ❌
Fishless cycle? ❌

We've seen the reviews, we've listened to our customers and we have now got it in store!

We're all making sure we fully understand how to advise you on its use but it's relatively simple.

1. Set up your aquarium;
It's vital you use dechlorinator to ensure any trace of chlorine or chloramine is gone before Nitroco Goop is used.

2. Allow at least 24hrs for the aquarium to heat up, checking the temperature on an internal thermometer before visiting us.

3. Bring us a sample of the aquariums water, we'll check and double check the water is ready for the product.

4. We'll advise on the required pouch size for your system, and you can select around 50% of intended stock for your aquarium right away!

5. Get yourself home, get your new stock acclimated and ensure Goop is added to the aquarium no longer than 48hrs beforehand. We'd recommend no more than 24hrs to be safe.

•Goop should be added to the filter itself, it'll be much more effective there!

• DO NOT use UV lighting or medication within the first 2 weeks of using Goop.

• Aquarium soils deplete carbonate hardness and release ammonia. Neither of which are a great idea when using Goop. Wed recommend moving past this with plenty of water changed and time for it to stop leaching ammonia before you use Goop.

Ask an experienced hobbyist one common mistake and you'll likely hear this, we keep MANY fish too warm! This causes increased metabolism, lethargy and a greater susceptibility to disease and infection.

There is an increasing interest in temperate fish in our hobby, so i thought it'd be useful to compile a list of fish happy at low temperatures, all available in store as of this weekend too!

**Whilst most of these are happy in unheated aquariums in a centrally heated house, care should be taken to monitor overnight temperature drops, the use of a heater on a low setting is both incredibly cheap to run, and a good failsafe**

Xipophorus variatus - the variable platy.
Macropodus opercularis - Paradise fish (video below)
Tanichthys albonubes - White Cloud Mountain minnow
Zebra,Leopard Danio - Danio rerio
Pearl Danio - Danio albilineatus
Giant Danio - Danio aequipinnatus
Oliotius oligolepis- Checker barbs
Rohanella titteya - Cherry barbs
Pethia padamya - Odessa barbs
Pethia conchonius- Rosy barb

There are also a range of fish that do not require the typical 25°C temperature of many tropical aquariums, 18-23°C being more than adequate for the below species, this does vary per species however!

Something else we've not had for almost a decade!

American flagfish, or Jordanella floridae.

The scientific name hints at the fishes origin, Florida!

Placid unless spawning, when males become incredibly colourful, this species will work well if kept with slightly more boisterous community fish, such as barbs, chunky tetra, danios and rainbowfish.

Easy spawning project for anyone interested too!

Anyone for gourami?

Whilst the most popular gourami are the "Dwarf gourami", or Trichogaster lalius, we recently reintroduced Thick-lipped gourami (Trichogaster labiosa) into our shop.

Males are incredible looking fish, and also pretty much identical to the species natural appearance!
