You may notice some changing to packaging and appearance of the product from Tetra UK foods soon 👀
Having had a good chat with our area rep lately, he explained that they're removing artificial colours and antioxidants, duplicate products and pushing towards more natural ingredients. This will result in less vibrantly coloured foods. This should not effect your fishes response.
Packaging is also being updated, well over due we think!

Eco friendly changes!
LOTS of manufacturers are working to reduce non-recyclable waste, here's a very positive change in that direction.
Gold Label sealer is a fantastic product used by so many customers to seal damaged liner, seal glass viewing panels and as an emergency, to stop leaks and get you out of sticky situations.
The old packaging is largely unrecyclable, ending up in landfill.
New packaging is now fully recyclable and also cheaper!

Predict a trend?
Our hobby changes all the time as an increased scientific understanding helps us keep fish that little bit closer to nature.
What changes do you predict may happen within our hobby in the not-too-distant future?
Mine is more of a want than a prediction but I'd love to see more of a push towards keeping fish together from the same area in nature. It's already remarkably common in Europe and we usually tend to cotton on a little later down the line.
What do you predict? 🤔

Why so many questions?
At SRA we try to give honest, and genuine advice. This comes from a combined experience of towards 200 years keeping fish! Yes, that's nearly 2 centuries 😧. We've been here for 56 years and continue to learn and adapt to our hobby.
Our hobby has changed immeasurably over the years and it continues to evolve even now. It's important we keep up with latest understanding and effectively communicate this to our much loved customers.
Fish are often not given the same respect as other animals, we've all-too-often heard "It's just a fish"
We do ask a fair amount of questions before we catch our stock, this is because we care about how they're going to be looked after when they leave us. It may come across as though we ask too many questions, but we don't know where and what they are going in too.
New stock generally arrives on Wednesday, we'll settle fish in and 99% of the time there all ready for Saturday but if they don't look quite right we won't hesitate in holding off until they do.
Whilst we appreciate that sometimes you just want to get your new fish and get back home with them, we do want to make sure you're getting fish correct for what you are housing them in, be it an aquarium or pond. Our job is to ensure the fish are given the best care and that your not left disappointed when things go wrong.

Our shop is absolutely full of products, here are a handful of products I find particularly impressive or useful!
Eheims 'Air' range, a top quality, German engineered air pump!
Aquael's Flow Heater, an external heater that is plumbed in line with your external filter, available in 300 and 500W sizes
Fluval Bug Bites 'Spirulina flakes' - Spirulina is a naturally occuring algae which vastly improves pigment representation.
Azalea root - this wood is gorgeous, particularly effective in small aquaria with a part of it emerging from the water, allowing you to use plants above the waterline such as Pothos, Monstera, Alocasia.
A jerry can! For ease of transportation of water, salt or fresh.
Another Fluval product, this time the SK400 Surface skimmer. Relatively new, very well priced and easy to use and maintain!
Mulberry leaves - useful for shrimps, snails, small fish as a food source.

With this systems filtration turned off for its monthly maintenance I caught a male Copella arnoldii, or Splash tetra, trying his luck with a few female. Gotta love his confidence 🤣 Splash tetra are incredibly unique fish, they will spawn in leaves just above the water line, a feat featured in a David Attenborough documentary. The male will then consistently splash water into the eggsuntil they wriggle their way back into the Amazon, 48hrs later! Fantastic parenting!

We started up in 1968. In a small shop( over the road from where we are know ). We then built this building, and slowly built it up over the years. It’s know in it’s 3rd generation of family member. We stock a wide range of dry goods for fish tanks, and ponds. From filters, heaters, decoratons, food, and treatments. We give free water tests and also with our 50 years of experience we offer a good range of advice, for new fish keepers and the more advance fish keeper. We also stock cold water, pond and tropical fish, Plus a wide selection of plants, for tanks and ponds ( pond plants are only availbale in the summer months )
Over the years we have changed with the times We obv do a lot on Facebook, but we also have a google plus page, instagram page and twitter page. Plus a lovely newish website. Where we sell Dry goods on line. On our website we have lots of advice, and info on the fish we stock.
