Brockswood

Brockswood We are a sanctuary in Sedgley, caring for and rehabilitating sick, injured, and mistreated animals.

Brockswood Animal Sanctuary is based in Sedgley, West Midlands in the UK. We care for and rehabilitate sick, injured, mistreated and in many cases abandoned and unwanted animals; giving them a safe and happy Forever Home here with us, whilst also endeavouring to restore and renovate the 'Cotwall End' site.

We don't receive funding from the Council or Government, and we are completely reliant on

the kindness and generosity of others in order to keep the sanctuary open and care for all of our animals. Every little helps and we are extremely grateful for your support - our work and successes are only possible thanks to your help and generosity!

We have been receiving so many presents for the animals this week, we are blown away by all of your kindness and generosity. All of these items will be such a massive help and will also help reduce some of our monthly food bill!

As always, we couldn’t continue to do our important work without all of you, our amazing supporters 💜

If you would like to purchase any items from our Amazon wishlist, it would be greatly appreciated! Alternatively, if anyone would like to drop off any fruit/vegetable donations for the animals, you can pop them directly under the tree in our shop🎄

We know times are tough, and we want to make Christmas at Brockswood as magical and affordable as possible for our lovely supporters. So we’ve made a festive change to our Christmas Grotto experience…

🧒 Every child visiting Father Christmas now gets FREE sanctuary entry! Plus one accompanying adult (or one person with Santa Paws) also gets in for free.
👥 Additional guests can still join the fun at a special reduced price.

That means more time to explore our sanctuary, meet our rescued animals, and see the work your visit helps support - all without stretching your Christmas budget!

If you haven't booked yet, now is the perfect time! Our grottos help raise vital funds for our animals during one of the most expensive months of the year, and every ticket makes a huge difference. 💚

Tap the link to book your magical visit to Father Christmas or Santa Paws with your lucky waggy friends at Brockswood! We can’t wait to celebrate with you.

Our wonderful volunteer Nathan, who has been volunteering with us for several months now is soon heading off on an adventure, all in the aim to raise some much needed funds for our new fox enclosure which we aim to start breaking ground on in the new year!

Nathan has been working in close proximity to our foxes for quite some time now whilst he’s been renovating our Terrapin and Spectacled Caiman enclosure. During this period he has developed a lovely friendship with Toby and wanted to help give us a massive push by fundraising for their new enclosure.

Nathan is walking the entire Isle of Wight coastal path and has set up a go fund me to raise funds along the way. You can also follow the fundraising page Freya & Toby’s Big Build Fundraiser for all the updates along the way. If anyone would like to donate to this wonderful project, please head over to the page and follow the Go Fund Me links and do be sure to cheer Nathan on along the way when his journey begins.

We are excited to follow along in the adventure and are wishing him all the best for when the time comes.

Thank you Nathan! 🦊

Ron, Messi (also known as Murphy!), and William have moved into the stables for the colder months. These three are some of our smaller and more vulnerable goats, so they need a little extra TLC during winter.

Messi is working on gaining a bit of weight before the cold sets in, and of course he can’t be moved without his best friend Ron by his side. And William, as one of our older gentlemen, benefits from being that little bit closer so the team can keep a closer eye on him.

Our stables have a safe electrical supply (thanks to our amazing volunteer Matt! 🙌), which means we can use heat lamps when needed and keep the boys warm and comfortable. Being closer to our main barn area also helps us monitor them throughout the day.

This move also protects their delicate hooves — wet, boggy winter paddocks can cause real problems, so being indoors helps keep them dry and healthy.

You can still see the boys when you visit — be sure to pop by and say hello!

(And if you watch to the end… there might be a little bonus clip showing the reality of caring for goats. We like to include a moment of sanctuary silliness whenever we can! 😅)

A massive thank you to Alex who has managed to raise a wonderful £125 for our rescued residents!

She popped down with her lovely daughter, to donate the money raised from the fundraising football cards.

Extra funds raised by our wonderful supporters like Alex really do make such a difference and are always greatly appreciated! If you would like to do some fundraising for us, there are lots of fun ways to do this and it all does help our little sanctuary

Early morning update from our sanctuary manager, Claire.

It’s set to be another very cold day today, but we are forecast some sun which always brightens the day and can hopefully add a little warmth.

As you can imagine, we go through lots more hay and bedding during these cold months keeping our rescued residents bellies full and warm. Our electric costs also increase during this time as some of our residents need heat lamps to help keep them comfortable along with constantly heating up snuggle safes for our smaller animals. Any extra donations over the next few months all help so much and help us continue to provide the very best care for our residents, so if anyone can even spare £1 it all adds up!

We hope you all keep warm today and advise plenty of tea!

WE ARE CLOSED TODAY

Due to today’s weather with yellow warnings for rain, we have taken the decision to close today to allow all of our focus to be on our rescued residents.

We do have some dog run bookings today so we are still honouring those, but should you not be attending your session, please do pop us a call or a message.

Thank you all for your understanding

A huge thank you to everyone who has kindly donated pumpkins for our residents this year - we’ve been absolutely overwhelmed (in the best way!) by your generosity. From our smallest animals to the biggest, so many will get to enjoy a tasty seasonal treat and enrichment thanks to you! 🧡

You’ve also kept us entertained with some truly strange varieties! However, we now officially have more than enough pumpkins, so please don’t bring any more for the moment - our feed stores (and our animals’ bellies!) are full!

Your support means the world to us and helps make autumn such a fun and enriching time for the animals here at Brockswood. Thank you! 💚

You might notice a few small changes around the sanctuary right now, such as disinfectant foot dips at entrances to our bird habitats, as well as our geese spending some time indoors. Don’t worry, they’re perfectly fine! These are simply extra precautions we’re taking to protect them from Avian Influenza (bird flu) as it is making its way around the country.

With a confirmed case now in Worcestershire, the risk has moved closer to home, and we need to be as careful as possible. Very sadly, another wonderful sanctuary, Happy Pants, recently lost all of their birds after a case was found there - something we can’t even begin to imagine going through.

Our birds mean the world to us, and keeping them safe is our absolute priority. These measures help reduce the risk, and small steps that make a big difference.

We’ll keep you updated as things progress, but for now, please rest assured that our feathered residents are happy, healthy, and in the best of hands. Thank you, as always, for your understanding and continued support. 💚

Clifford can’t have all the attention, so it’s time to shine a light on our beautiful terrapins!

In our brand new turtle habitat, you’ll find a mixture of yellow-bellied sliders and just one red-eared slider… can you spot which one it is? 👀

These turtles are closely related species that often get mixed up, but you can tell them apart by their markings. Yellow-bellied sliders have (you guessed it!) bright yellow plastrons and stripy legs, while red-eared sliders have a distinctive red patch near each “ear.”

You might also notice the little coloured dots on their shells. These are ID marks that help us tell each individual apart for their health records. It’s an important part of their care, and also a requirement under our invasive species permit, which allows us to legally and responsibly provide lifelong homes for them.

All of our terrapins were rescued by the wonderful Proteus Reptile Trust and they now live under their long-term care here at Brockswood - safe, well, and much loved for the rest of their lives. 💚
