Brockswood

Brockswood We are a sanctuary in Sedgley, caring for and rehabilitating sick, injured, and mistreated animals.

Brockswood Animal Sanctuary is based in Sedgley, West Midlands in the UK. We care for and rehabilitate sick, injured, mistreated and in many cases abandoned and unwanted animals; giving them a safe and happy Forever Home here with us, whilst also endeavouring to restore and renovate the 'Cotwall End' site.

We don't receive funding from the Council or Government, and we are completely reliant on

the kindness and generosity of others in order to keep the sanctuary open and care for all of our animals. Every little helps and we are extremely grateful for your support - our work and successes are only possible thanks to your help and generosity!

Starting this week, Brockswood will be open Friday through Sunday only. During the rest of the week, our small but dedicated team will focus on essential behind-the-scenes work, including routine animal health care, major maintenance projects, and the many administrative tasks needed to keep Brockswood thriving. Winter is our most challenging time of year, with the costs of keeping our residents safe, warm, and well-cared-for rising significantly.

We know that many sanctuaries like ours are struggling right now, and we’re feeling that, too. But with the ongoing support of our wonderful community, we’re determined to make it through. Your visits, donations, and encouragement mean the world to us and help keep Brockswood’s doors open.

Thank you for being part of the Brockswood family. We look forward to welcoming you on our open days and showing you the improvements we’re making!

Please Note: These changes won't affect our friends at Agility Kidz Explorers, so please continue to come on your usual days. We're assessing our Sanctuary Dog Run and will confirm opening days for this in the coming days!

“At the going down of the sun and in the morning...”

This Remembrance Sunday, we are pausing to remember the courageous people who sacrificed so much and honouring the animals who have walked beside them throughout history. Whether in times of conflict or peace, animals have been our faithful companions and, for many, brought comfort amid hardship.

All lives have meaning, and today reminds us that kindness, compassion, and remembrance unite us across species. As we care for animals who have faced their own struggles, we're inspired to be mindful of the lives that have come before, each leaving a legacy of strength and resilience.

Today and every day, let us carry forward the memory of all who have given selflessly and those who continue to do so today. Let's continue to honour them by striving for a world rooted in peace and respect for all.

"We will remember them."

‼️ Important Update: Sanctuary Closed Today ‼️

Due to last night’s intense fireworks in the local area, many of our animals became distressed and are still feeling unsettled this morning. To help them recover in a peaceful environment, we’ve made the decision to close to visitors for the day. This will allow our care team to focus on giving our animals the quiet time they need to relax and feel safe again.

We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as we put the well-being of our residents first. Thank you for your support, and we look forward to welcoming you back soon!

As the skies light up with fireworks tonight, let’s not forget how loud noises and bright lights can stress our beloved animals. Sadly, some of our residents can become quite upset at this time of year, and we are doing our very best to minimise their stress.

🐾 Important Reminder: Hedgehogs, recently declared Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, often take refuge in piles of leaves and logs. Before lighting bonfires, please check for hedgehogs and other wildlife hiding there for warmth and shelter! 🦔

Here are a few ways to help keep all animals safe tonight:

• Create a quiet, secure space indoors for pets 🏡
• Avoid setting off fireworks near animal habitats or wildlife areas 🚫
• Check bonfires for sheltering animals before lighting them 🔥🦔

Let’s protect our wildlife and show extra care for the animals we're so lucky to share the world with. Your kind support helps us provide safe, loving homes for all our residents all year round.

Stay safe, and have a great nightt! 🎇🎆

Meet Barbara, one of our beautiful sheep 🐑✨

Sadly, Barbara was born without sight, but she doesn’t let that hold her back. She has an amazing way of navigating her world, relying on her other senses and a little help from her friends. Watching her graze peacefully as the sun sets is a reminder of her quiet resilience and how animals, no matter their challenges, can find happiness and comfort.

Barbara might not see the world the way we do, but she certainly feels the warmth of the sun, the softness of the grass, and so much love from all of us here at the sanctuary 💚

Who doesn’t love a good back scratch? Harper certainly does! 🐐 There’s nothing quite like seeing our residents relax and enjoy the simple pleasures of life here. Watch Harper lean in and really enjoy the attention to that spot she can never reach!

Taking care of our animals means giving them the chance to just be themselves and enjoy the little moments. 💚

Happy Halloween from all of our rescued residents!🎃

The goats (particularly Groot) have been happily tucking into their pumpkins today getting into the Halloween spirit.

We’ve been getting lots of questions as to weather we are taking pumpkins again this year and the answer is yes! As long as the pumpkins haven’t been treated with any paints, glue, glitter or other chemicals we can absolutely take them.

We also want to say a massive thank you to all who attended our Halloween craft workshop today! It was lovely to meet you all and see all of your amazing witch’s hats and broomsticks, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did 🧹

We hope you all have a lovely evening, whatever your plans and hope to see you all very soon when a special visitor comes to the sanctuary again 🎅🏻

The amazing team at Aonix Limited are still hard at work on the ‘Aonix Aviary’; Meriden’s new home at the sanctuary upon completion! This is shaping up to be an enormous project and we’re so grateful for all of their time and hard work 💪🏻

As we are now starting on the interior of the aviary, we’d love to hear some of your ideas for what you’d like to see in there! We have some of our own ideas, but maybe you have something we haven’t thought of yet? Let’s make this a forever home Meriden our Spotted eagle owl can really thrive in 💚

Don't forget our tortoise health checks are this Sunday in the Brockswood classroom. Our winter health checks are aimed at checking your shelled friends before they go into hibernation (and of course those who don't hibernate). Our team are on hand to offer any advice, answer any questions and of course trim any beaks/nails that need doing.
If you have never been to one of our health checks please head down to our shop where our lovely volunteers will direct you where to go.
We look forward to seeing you all on Sunday!

We'd like to say an enormous thank you to our amazing friends at Revolting Animals. for their kind donations. They brought in food for our animals, lovely handmade items to sell to raise funds for their care, and a £40 donation. They are a wonderful bunch doing amazing work for rescues and sanctuaries like ourselves, and we're so grateful to them all ❤️

It takes a lot of hay to keep our lovely grazing residents with full bellies, and with the weather quickly turning we’ll begin to need more as the grass stops growing. This is just one of several deliveries and it’s all made possible thanks to YOU!

We’ve mentioned Meriden a few times recently as we post updates on his new aviary! We thought those of you who don’t know him as well might like to know a little about him!

Meriden the Spotted eagle-owl has been part of the Brockswood family for 10 years now, after being rescued by another animal charity who asked if we could give him a happy forever home after a tough start. He’s well known around here for his grumpy demeanor, but we wouldn’t have him any other way—it’s just who he is, and we love him for it! 💚

Thank you for giving a hoot and helping us give Meriden a forever home, grumpiness and all. If you’d like to meet him in person, why not come and visit or contribute to the Aonix Limited aviary project so that he can stretch his wings and enjoy life to the fullest. Phase 1 is complete, but there’s still more to come! Every donation and visit helps us continue this important work for him and all of our residents. 🦉🏡

A few weeks ago, we welcomed this beautiful girl into our sanctuary. Babs was very weak when she arrived, and we weren't sure if she would pull through the night. We're happy to say that thanks to lots of TLC from our caring team and some very helpful advice from our wonderful vets, she is finally turning a corner!

We’re so pleased to see her gaining strength and gaining some much-needed weight. Animals can be so resilient and frequently shock us with their strength. Although sweet Babs has a condition that she will manage for the rest of her life, we remain optimistic about her future with the right care and treatment when necessary. Thank you to all of you who support our work - you make stories like hers possible. ❤️
