Who doesn’t love a good back scratch? Harper certainly does! 🐐 There’s nothing quite like seeing our residents relax and enjoy the simple pleasures of life here. Watch Harper lean in and really enjoy the attention to that spot she can never reach!
Taking care of our animals means giving them the chance to just be themselves and enjoy the little moments. 💚

A few of you have asked us recently where the goats have gone! Don’t worry, they’re just staying in the paddock next door at the moment where they are enjoying munching all of the delicious leaves and branches that have been growing over the fence - this is why we refer to goats as "browsers." In the meantime, our grazers, the sheep, are relishing the tasty grass in the goat paddock. It's a lovely mutual exchange!
You can still see and feed the goats in this paddock, a couple of them may be a little preoccupied as they have free access to their favourite leaves, but they usually won’t say no to a bit more feed and fuss! 🐐

At Brockswood, every animal has a story, and today we’re shining the spotlight on one of our dearest residents, Joe the sheep. Never just a sheep! Joe has been with us since he was very young, and is now one of our most beloved elders, living his golden years surrounded by love.
Joe also receives lots of extra TLC from our team, as his senior care plan is designed to keep him comfortable and healthy. From a softer bed to special feed, his own fitted coat, and of course lots of cuddles! 🐑✨
Your kind support allows us to continue providing lifelong care to animals who need it most, such as Joe and his friends. You can get involved through donations towards their care, purchasing items from our wishlist, or simply sharing Joe’s story! 🐾💚

We are sorry to announce that we will be CLOSED tomorrow, the 24th. Following the recent storms and constant heavy rain here, we have flooded very badly in some areas. Being located in a valley means that all this rain flows downhill, and unfortunately, we are at the receiving end. We have spent the last few days making sure all of our residents are safe and dry but we need another day to allow the paths to dry out a little and to rectify some of the problems this has caused us. Thank you for understanding and we look forward to seeing you soon.
With soggy regards,
A very damp Brockswood Team ☔️

With the warmer weather here to stay for a little while, let's remember our incredible wildlife who might seek some assistance! Providing water sources is crucial during the heat when they can be scarce. Whether it's a birdbath, a pebble tray for insects, or a dog bowl for passing mammals, a little help goes a long way. You might be surprised by the visitors you witness! We were delighted to watch this Great Cormorant looking for snacks in one of our pools. Unlike most water birds, Cormorants lack waterproofing, showcasing an impressive wingspan as they dried off on the grass later. We are so happy to see the variety of species that call our sanctuary home, with over 300 species spotted on-site so far!

Our residents are unique individuals, each with their distinct personalities, preferences, and dislikes.
So, we think it’s important to spend as much one-to-one time with those who appreciate it as we can; such as the lovely Joe. The special bonds our animals form with each other add to their individuality, and we are fortunate to be a part of some of these relationships! As you can see, Joe has a special friendship with Lydia, spanning over a decade, built on trust and affection for one another. He loves his cuddles and scratches, and although his sight is now failing, he knows exactly who is there with him, helping him reach all of those awkward spots.
Joe is now the last of his family group and has faced some challenges this year so we are taking every possible opportunity to festoon him with as much extra love as possible. He truly deserves every moment of it 💚

While ensuring the safety of our chicken residents is vital, providing them with free-range time is equally important for their physical and mental well-being. They are closely monitored by us to prevent any harm, making it a rather enjoyable task amongst many throughout the day! During their time on the grass, pecking, scratching, and digging, our chickens have lots of fun. Recently, some moles left some telltale evidence of their presence in this grassy area, which Hetty thoroughly enjoyed by digging through the mounds of earth to uncover lots of tasty insects. The well-tilled soil also served as a perfect dust bath spot, giving Hetty the time of her life while our Animal Care students industriously cleaned her home for her return later 🐓

Kisses from Hermione
Hermione wants to express her gratitude with a big piggy kiss to all of you for being so caring and wonderful towards her and her friends. While the Three Tusketeers are still using her resting paddocks, we’re collecting lots of tasty grass and browse each day so she doesn't miss out, since her paddock needs time to recover (and the same goes for the boys!). We found this spot inside her double gate where she can graze this morning, including the nettles she enjoys – this might sound alarming to us but these nutrient-rich plants are one of her favourites 🐷🌱

Cuddles with Ollie
As it's been a while since you last saw an animal post, we wanted to share a peek behind the scenes with Ollie. Goats dislike the rain, so they have been seeking shelter most of the day. If you've met Ollie, you may know him as very assertive and a little brash at times, but today, we want to show you his more sensitive side. While we clean, he will moan and softly nudge us with his horns, seeking affection and cuddles, and we are more than happy to oblige! 💕

Today is the day, the Viking event is well under way!
The weather is glorious and there are lots of stalls to look around along with crafts such as shield and fairy door painting and so much more!
We look forward to seeing you all during the next 3 days.
The event does get very busy so car parking on our main car park can be limited. We do have a car parking attendant to assist you and our overflow car park is also open
