Lovely post from one of our riders Kathryn, on the wonderful Ludo yesterday ☺️ if you have time please read her story! Horses really are such wonderful creatures🐴
A Horse A Day - Ludo
A buzzard watched from her perch in the tree as I began my ride on Ludo. We rode into the moss covered woods, then weaved our way down into the valley where the river flowed alongside us, I closed my eyes listening to the rushing water - also wishing I could take a swim too!
We were treated to the sight of so many deer, some displaying impressive jumping skills over a fence!
The ride had everything, including a fabulous gallop at the end - I was grinning like a Cheshire Cat as I let go and off we went, tears pricking my eyes - feelings of pure joy as we thundered up the hill - I'm definitely going back to Pine Lodge Riding & Holidays on Exmoor, Near Dulverton again, and next time with my hat-cam! 🐎😍 Huge thanks to them and of course Ludo ❤️
This is why I need horses. I couldn't have walked 6 miles and seen all this. In those 2 hours, I forgot it all, just me with the horse, everything else fell away. I need it to keep me sane and to forget about cancer, even if only for a couple of hours. As I sit having my chemo tomorrow I will revisit that gallop in my head and hang on to it.
I get a massive mental boost from horse riding, there is no better therapy for me. I'm sure one of the reasons I've been struggling so much emotionally recently is because I've not been able to ride, or see Tigger like I was. It causes massive frustration!
It proves to me just why the horse adventure trip to Scotland I'm planning is so important, it will help me to switch off, to find some peace for a week and just be there with the horses, in nature. No chemo, no cancer just that moment in time forgetting it all... and I'll get to try archery on horse back! What a Horse Living List challenge that'll be!!
It's emotional when I then have to come back home to reality after a trip away, that hits hard, but the breaks like this make it more bearable and manageable in the long term.
If you don't know about the Scottish adventure with Wilder Ways that I'm planning you can read about it here!
