Ross helped this ewe deliver 4 healthy lambs this morning (a bit of a shock as she had only been scanned for two!)🐑🐑🐑🐑

Remember ewes carrying multiple lambs will be under an increased amount of metabolic stress and will likely require additional feeding and supplementation. Bloods can be taken pre-lambing to predict metabolic issues and reduce the risk of pregnancy toxaemia or mineral deficiencies.

This cheeky chap weighed in at a whopping 78kg! Unsurprisingly his mum struggled to deliver him normally so vet Alasdair gave her a helping hand by performing a caesarean.

Now is the time of year to be thinking about vasectomising tups. Teasers are a great way to tighten up your lambing period and are very efficient for large flocks. Tups need to be vasectomised at least 6-8 weeks before using.

⭐️ SRUC Lab Update ⭐️

“At the moment we are being presented with ill thriven lambs by farmers who are concerned that liver fluke is the problem. So far, we have not found any evidence of fluke, but their worm burdens have been high enough to cause both ill thrift and death. Trace element deficiency is common in autumn and around here lambs are most often short of cobalt. However, since the start of September low selenium levels have been found in 83% of liver samples tested. This included tissue from both ill thriven lambs and ewes,"
