i think this is absolutely fantastic to be offered by any breed society so well done WPCS! and truly does focus on the meaning that these ponies are all rounds
and also that the society is all encompassing -
not just about the show ring, basically asking as you have either a section A, B,C, D or a welsh pb anyone can take place any were ( with an addition of a smart phone for an app to help measure and record distances )

Do you enjoy exploring new places or are you looking to take on a new challenge now that the evenings are lighter and the weather is starting to improve.

Do you already hack your Pony/ Cob or WPBR or are you looking to try something new to improve fitness or confidence.

is about having fun and exploring new areas and making new memories. It is a challenge completely managed by yourself, with no time constraints for completion, plus lovely rosettes awarded once you have completed your challenge. Don't forget to also encourage your friends, family and yard to take part with you. What are you waiting for lets get hacking and exploring.

How It Works

Welsh Explorers is a hacking challenge for all ages and abilities with rosette awarded to celebrate your achievements. Why not aim to collect all 5 challenge rosettes.

* You can sign up to take part in Welsh Explorers https://wpcs.uk.com/product/welsh-explorers/ (ยฃ5 charge per challenge you take on) once payment has been made you will be emailed a PDF of your record card.
* Print your record card off and keep this safe to record all your miles. Circle your chosen challenge either 20, 50, 100, 500 or 1000 miles. There is not time limit for completing the challenge it can be done completely at your own pace.
* You can complete your challenge on more than one pony/ horse the only rule is that they must be registered with the WPCS. The miles can be done either in the saddle, driven or leading in hand.
* Your record card must only include hacking miles, fun rides also count.
* You can take part in the challenge from any part of the world.
* Once you have completed your chosen challenge 20, 50, 100, 500 or 1000 miles submit your record card to the Society office - The Welsh Pony and Cob Society, Bronaeron, Felinfach, Lampeter, Ceredigion, SA48 8AG (we recommend recorded delivery so that you know it arrives safely) or take a photo of your record card and email this to [email protected]
* Share your adventures and stories with us via Instagram (use hashtag ) or email to [email protected] and you could feature on our social media, website or even in the Society journal.

Most of all remember to enjoy your adventurers and make as many memories as possible with your Welsh Pony, Cob or WPBR.

There are a number of Horse Apps that allow you to track your ride

Equilab
HorseStrides
Rideable
Enduro FIT

(these are not endorsed by the Society and charges may apply)

๐Ÿฅ•๐Ÿฅ•๐Ÿฅ• Friday focus...carrots! ๐Ÿฅ•๐Ÿฅ•๐Ÿฅ•

I know some of you are very concerned about feeding carrots to your horses, particularly those with laminitis, EMS and Cushings. As I have mentioned in previous enrichment posts, a carrot or two a day are absolutely fine...most things are in moderation! So if you are worried about giving some Christmas carrots to your horse or ponyโ€ฆhere are a few carrot facts to ease your mind!

๐Ÿฅ• Carrots are high in water and have around a 20% dry matter content.

๐Ÿฅ• They are high in water - around 80% so they are a fabulous succulent!

๐Ÿฅ• On a dry matter basis, carrots are relatively high in sugar, however, on an as fed, fresh weight basis, they are low in sugar - around 4.7% per 100g of carrot.

๐Ÿฅ• They are low also low in starch on a fresh weight basis - making around 6% NSC in 100g of carrot!

๐Ÿฅ• Carrots are useful additions to winter rations of dry feed (hay & concentrates) as they are a more natural source of moisture-containing feed when many horses are fed unnaturally dry diets of hay and concentrates.

๐Ÿฅ• They are excellent training treats, great for hiding meds in and they can also help increase appetites!

๐Ÿฅ• Carrots are an excellent source of vitamin A - 100g of carrot more than meets a 500g horses vitamin A requirement!

๐Ÿฅ• Their naturally high vitamin A content makes them a fab source of antioxidants, particularly for our older horses!

I always feed carrots throughout โ€˜carrot seasonโ€™, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a carrot or two a day!

what an amazing opportunity for someone ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’•
