We just received a lovely surprise visit and a very kind donation from a previous resident.

This is the gorgeous Bracken 😍.
He was adopted 10 years ago this week and thought he would pop back to let us know how he is doing.

He was a very full on, bouncy boy with a lot to learn but his family put in the work and had a lot of fun along the way.
He is doing great! 💙💙💙

Some of you may have seen or been aware of the recent accusations against Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue Centre on social media, regarding a stray dog that came to us in January and the subsequent decision to euthanise him in February in line with Scottish legislation after he was identified and typed as an XL bully.

These attacks have reached an unacceptable level and are impacting significantly on staff well-being and welfare. The safety and security of our dogs, staff and volunteers is paramount to us and we have therefore, as a result of these attacks, had to take the very difficult, but understandable, decision to postpone our annual Summer Fun Day Dog Show.

UPDATE: Further to the Board’s previous statement, we would like to update our supporters with regards to Nova. This is a complex case and we understand that it has caused anguish to our supporters and staff.

As per the Board’s operating procedures following a complaint, we have commenced a thorough review of Nova’s case. This may take some time as we consult with industry experts and other rescue centres, but rest assured we consider it of the upmost importance and we ask for patience while we complete the process.

As a charity, we are very disturbed by actions towards staff and volunteers. We do reserve the right to restrict communications with individuals in the case of personal abuse.

This gorgeous guy came to us as a stray.

Since arriving we have found him to be a very sweet, gentle soul who loves everyone he meets.
Noodle is happy and playful around other dogs and has a very good nature.

❤️🐾🚴😁👍We had a lovely surprise today, when Kenneth Dodds walked through our door. He explained that back on the 12th May he took part in the Etape Caledonia cycling event in Pitlochry, he was one of 5000 participants. He raised an amazing £500 in sponsorship and as a dog lover & previous adopter from our rescue he wished to donate it all to us. Here he is handing over his donation with our spaniel, Donny. We can't thank him enough!! 👍😁🚴🐾❤️

Message from the Chair of the Board of Trustees

Some of you may have seen some Facebook posts attacking Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue for the difficult decisions we had to take with regard to an XL Bully, Nova. These posts include some inaccurate and misleading information about the dog and the efforts we placed trying to rehome him.

The rescue centre did everything it could within the law to get Nova rehomed, and, unlike some other rescue centres, we did notify the public we had an XLB in our care and were seeking a home for him. Unfortunately, we did not identify any suitable individuals to rehome this dog within the timeframe that was permitted by law nor were other expert registered rescue centres willing to take him.

DGCRC is not a campaigning or policy making organisation. We are a rescue and rehoming charity. Our objectives are to look after the dogs in our care to the very best of our ability within the law and to rehome dogs to where they will be able to thrive.

Everyone who works at the kennels is impacted by any dog we have to put to sleep irrespective of the reason and this case was no different. We have a fantastic team of kennels staff and volunteers, all of whom are passionate about dog welfare. However, whatever our personal views, as a charity we have to work within the regulations, guidance and laws to which we are bound.

You guys are amazing!

Yesterday Monty had the pleasure of meeting Faye, Tegan and Chiara from Vigilant who arranged an afternoon shopping spree with him!

They took him to pets at home and bought him whatever he wanted along with lots of food, toys and treats for the rest of his friends back at the kennels.

He had a great time shopping with the girls and absolutely loved meeting lots of new people and dogs in the shop.

We can't thank you guys enough and I think we can all agree Monty looks very handsome in his new collar 🩵.

Yesterday we had the pleasure of meeting Madison and Willow McCrone. 🩷

🐾🐾❤️Back in May, Castle Douglas Community Support group held a disco to celebrate Learning Disability week. They raised a whopping £312.00 during their disco and decided to donate it all to us, to help us care for our dogs. We feel so humbled and on behalf of us and all our dogs, we can not thank everyone involved enough !! 🐾🐾🐾⭐Calling all our amazing supporters!⭐ 🐾🐾🐾

Our dogs have a huge favour to ask....🙏

Our food store is running low once again so we are appealing for donations of dog food.
On average we get through around 15 to 20 bags of dry dog food a week which,as you can imagine, is a challenge to keep up with.

Our dogs brands of choice are Harrington's, Wainwright's, James Wellbeloved, Skinners, AVA and Barking heads however any donations would be appreciated ☺️🐾❤️.

As many of you are aware our kennels are always full and there are always more dogs needing help to find their fresh starts. We are very grateful for the continued support of all you incredible people who keep our charity going.

Major needs your help! 🤞🏡🐾

This handsome lad came to us after a difficult few months straying.
He has already spent long enough in kennels and is in desperate need of a calm, understanding, patient person who can help him out with further training and socializing.

He is a clever lad who absolutely adores zooming around the paddock and hanging out with his human friends.

At the weekend, Hannah Lightfoot and her brother Lenny came to visit the dogs and bring us some donations for them.

Hannah done a talk on us at Brownies to earn her Gold award, a huge achievement! After this, her and all her friends at Brownies brought in some goodies for the dogs to donate to us🐾

✨Shout out to our AMAZING volunteers!✨

It's National Volunteers week and we would just like to say we are incredibly proud of our team of volunteers for your high standards of care and your dedication to our dogs.

Whatever the weather, you continue to show up and help out in any way you can. Whether that be working in our shops to keep the funds coming in, to walking/playing with/ cuddling the dogs in our kennels, which helps them relax and enjoy their time here, to all the little jobs needing done in-between.
