Dear Doggy Customers
* A post on allergies and feeding *
Mabie Forest Kennels has always provided food for overnight stays as we want to be as convient as possible. For this reason, although dog food prices have rocketed over the last 10+ years we have never charged for providing food.
However, an issue has been steadily becoming a problem over the last few years. Allergies and intolerances are for, whatever reason, on the rise. Many dogs now cannot eat certain meats and grains for example, and our food is not suitable for these varying diets. We have changed our food multiple times to try and suit most dogs and even now offer a range of two different tinned meals and three different dry foods to try and suit all dogs and we still have many issues.
Dogs come into us and when they should be spending their first few days settling in and getting to know us they are instead adapting to their new diet and having possible sickness and diarrhoea.
The animals are our top priority and with the increase of sickness/diarrhoea due to a change in diet we do not see us providing food as beneficial to the dogs.
We spend a lot of our time and money now going to shops trying to find suitable foods for dogs that have been left in our care for sometimes weeks. In some cases, having to visit vets due to a dogs reaction in changing their food. Time we could be spending at the kennels with these pets. We have been trying our very best but unfortunately cannot keep going this way as at the end of the day we are still a business.
Therefore, this is a service we will sadly have to put to a stop.
We highly recommend as we have done for the last year to please bring in your own food.
As of February 1st, we will no longer provide food for kennel stays or day care.
We are very sorry that we have to do this as we understand this service has been helpful to owners over the years but the number of dogs impacted now is too high and we feel it is no longer a service than is good for our visiting dogs.
