🕊️ The funeral of our much missed friend & colleague John McPherson will take place on Monday 26th August, 2pm at Roucan Loch Crematorium, Collin, Dumfries, DG1 4JF then afterwards at The Crown Hotel, Lochmaben, Lockerbie, DG11 1PD.
To which all friends are invited.
No flowers please but donations if desired will go to The Injured Jockeys Fund and Racing Welfare.

🏆 Congratulations to and with MOONSTONE BOY tonight. Followed one race later by their 2yo debutant and half brother TABAGO MOON who finished a promising 4th. A recent purchase.

🥈After nearly a year off the track, PADDY THE SQUIRE ran a blinder to go down by only a short head under in the 1m 1f.

CATHERINE CHROI who never fails to disappoint finished 7th in a very competitive 6f handicap but was only beaten 2 lengths with JUMP THE GUN only another length behind her.

And last but not least LUNACY showed improved form for 4th following his run at Ayr only 3 days ago.

led her first winner back into the winners enclosure tonight. Having worked for us at weekends and during school holidays, Kiera joined the Team full-time this summer, what a time to do it 🔥🔥🔥

John McPherson

A post written with great sadness to let the wider racing community know that during the night, John passed away in his sleep.

Understandably this has come as a massive shock to us all at Hetlandhill so please bear with us 💔

Formerly an integral part of the Kevin Ryan Team, John very quickly found his feet at IJR at home in his native Dumfries & Galloway. He lived and breathed racing and his horses. He spoke fondly of the early days at Mary Reveley’s and of the people he met and the connections he made during his many years dedicated to horse racing. As a Team we’d joke at the races “is there anyone here John doesn’t know?” He’d pass no one at the racecourse without at least a “how’s it goin bud?” or to congratulate another Trainer on a win. He was first here in the morning and would often be asked to leave if I couldn’t find anymore jobs for him. He leaves a big hole here at IJR and to those involved in racing further afield, particularly Yorkshire. As we would say “a weel kent face.” RIP.

Great to have big BASHFUL back in full training following a mini break. Dave Lycett & James Scott 6yo is the perfect example of a dual purpose horse. He’s a winner of 9 races, on the turf, the all weather and over hurdles. Looking forward to 2024/25 with him!

😢 The day I’ve been dreading, Dominic Hislop last day 😢
He warned us months ago he’d seen an advert for a Conditional Jockey role, but in true Dom style, ran the idea past Iain first. This was something we couldn’t offer him. We supported him in his application with very mixed feelings. He’s a star employee and will be a credit to his next yard. He’s learned so much under Iain’s tutorship and it’s been a pleasure to watch him ride winners as an Amateur for us. We wish him every success in his new role at Nick Alexander’s and will watch him progress with interest because we have no doubt he will do well 🏆
