Happy Take Your Dog To Work Day 🐾

Little Jet comes to work everyday and is usually found napping or stealing biscuits - he is not our number 1 working employee that’s for sure!! 🙈

We would love to see your work dogs in the comments 🥰

Just a reminder ☀️

Just a reminder ☀️

The next few days are predicted to be very hot so please protect your pups from heatstroke. All dogs are at risk for heat stroke but especially our brachycephalic breeds (flat faced) and overweight dogs. 🐶

If you think your pet is suffering from heatstroke please bring them in as soon as possible!

A few reminders for your dogs safety:
⚠️ Do not walk your dog in the sun (short walks early morning and late evening)
⚠️ Do not leave your dog in a car (even for 2 minutes)
⚠️ Do not transport your dog if they get very stressed in the car
⚠️ Do not leave your dog for long periods out in the sun

Your dog may be suffering from heatstroke if they display any of these signs:
* Fast, heavy breathing or panting
* Red or purple tongue/gums
* Collapsing
* Racing heart
* Glassy eyes
* High body temperature
* Sticky gums
* Excessive drooling
* Vomiting or diarrhoea
* Pressing their head to the wall
* Circling
* General restlessness
* Dizziness – they may appear lethargic, drowsy or slow
* Seizures

To avoid heatstroke :
✅ Provide your dog with a cool & shaded area
✅ Offer water regularly
✅ Use a cool mat
✅ Set up a fan
✅ Offer frozen treats such as frozen yoghurt
✅ Be aware of heat stroke signs
✅ Contact your vet if you are worried

Please remember no dog has died from missing a walk but plenty have died from one walk in the heat - don’t take any risks 🐾

Little Toaty used to find coming here very stressful and scary. She has been coming to Fear Free Clinics with our Nurse Brogan and she now loves coming in 😻 Toaty had her vaccine today, she was so relaxed enjoying her lickimat that she didn’t even notice the injection! She was a superstar for her clinical exam and even had her nails trimmed!! 🐾

Well done Toaty, we are so proud of you ♥️

Y IS FOR YEARLY CPD 📖📚

Every year our Registered nurses must complete 15 hours at least of CPD (continuous professional development) to stay on the RVCS register. This is so they keep up to date with any changes within the veterinary field and to continue and develop their skills 🤓
