Top 5 Tips to Keep Your Pet's Teeth Healthy & Strong🦷🪥
Maintaining good oral hygiene is essential for all animals, including our beloved pets. Just like humans, pets need regular dental care to prevent tooth decay and gum disease. Regular teeth cleaning and brushing can help keep your pet’s mouth stay healthy and free from infection.
🦷 Tip 1: Regularly Brush Your Pet's Teeth:
Regular brushing is one of the best ways to do this. Brushing your pet's teeth can help prevent plaque build-up, bad breath, and other issues. It also helps maintain good oral hygiene for your beloved pet. This can be added to your dog or cat’s daily routine to help them get used to the sensation. Try and use a small toothbrush gently in their mouths, finger brushes are also available if this is easier for your pet, and these can come in smaller sizes for puppies or kittens. Be sure to give them lots of positive reinforcement and treats!
🦷 Tip 2: Provide Dental Chews and Treats:
Providing your pet with healthy dental treats and chews is another way to keep on top of your pet’s oral health. Not only do these treats provide them with essential nutrients, but they’re also a great way to keep their teeth in top shape, help reduce plaque build-up and even keep their breath fresh!

Regular vet visits help ensure that your pet is healthy and happy, and they also give you an opportunity to ask questions and get advice from a professional. Asking for advice on the status of your pet’s teeth is a great way to learn more about prevention methods specific to you and knowing what type of specific treatment they may need if their condition worsens.
🦷 Tip 4: Feed a Balanced Diet:
Feeding your pet a balanced diet is essential for their health and wellbeing. Not only does it ensure that they get all the nutrition they need, but it also helps them stay active and maintain a healthy weight. Using dry food or kibble in particular can be abrasive in the mouth, which helps rub against teeth and gums to move or prevent plaque and resting tartar.
🦷 Tip 5: Use an Oral Rinse or Gel:
Using oral rinses, gels or sprays can also complement your pet’s routine or brushing as they aid in longer lasting fresh breath and providing an anti-bacterial barrier. Sprays can be given to the inside of both cheeks in your pet’s mouth, whereas some solutions can also be added to their fresh drinking water. Be sure to ask your vet before deciding what products to use and be aware some pets may not like the taste!

Hugo has graduated fear free clinics 🎓🎉
Handsome Hugo has been coming to see our RVN Brogan for 6 months as he was super fearful of the vets and unable to be examined. Hugo is now fully confident having a clinical examination and recently had his booster vaccination which hasn’t put him off. We are so proud of how well Hugo has come on. He will still come in every few months for refresher sessions to ensure he doesn’t lose his confidence 🥰🎉🐾🎓

Hatching Season!
It will be common to see gull chicks at this time of year as they leave their nests at only a few days old. They will often spend time on the ground, being fed by their parents, until they’ve built up muscles in their wings.
If you find a baby gull that is uninjured then it is best to leave them alone as they and their parents will be a bit protective!

Rachael has been with the team since 2022 and has been an RVN for 1year. Rachael has a keen interest in nutrition and has completed many courses on this. Rachael likes to run weight clinics and help your pets to become a healthy weight. Rachael also enjoys surgery. Rachael is our pawsitive pawprint ambassador and is helping to make our practice more sustainable. Rachael has been a great addition to the team. 🩺👩🏼⚕️🐾

We have had a few clients come in asking for some advice when dealing with breeders and trying to pick a puppy to be their forever pet! We have some tips for you: 1) Buy from a private seller 2) Visit the house of the breeder many times before purchase 3) Visit the puppies at 3-4 weeks and collect once 8-9 weeks of age, no earlier 4) Ask the breeder where the litter is kept in the house 5) Ask to see the pups and their mum together 6) Ask for regular updates and photographs 7) Never buy puppies from car parks or secluded areas - genuine breeders would not do this If you have any other questions, please email us or call us on 01382 225422🐾
We have had a few clients ask us: what actually is a fear free consult? If you have a fearful or anxious dog that does not like the vets, it is important to try and desensitise them when visiting, to make them less fearful of us🥰 These consults are specially tailored to each individual pet - each client wanting to enrole their pet in a fear free consult, will be asked to fill out a questionnaire before visiting. What should I expect in these consults? The idea is to let your pet roam the consult room freely, without anything physical taking place (nail clip, anal glands examination, etc). Letting them roam and smell different items in the consult room, will in theory, make them more comfortable with their surroundings! After a few consults with us, our nurse will then introduce different physical methods, such as: paw touching, checking heart rate, ear checks, teeth checks, etc. This will then get your pet used to general physical examination too! We do not like seeing scared pups coming to visit us and we think these fear-free consults may help with this! Be prepared for lots of cuddles and treats in these appointments - you are welcome to bring your own treats or toy from home 🧸 If you have any more questions or want to book in for a fear-free consult, please get in touch! 📞 🖥️
