This morning I welcomed four new puppy families to Beginner Puppy Training Classes.

💜 Barney the 24 week old Border Collie
They all settled in well, and I'm looking forward to getting to know them more and watch them grow over our six weeks together.
Just realised I haven't posted the graduation photos from the May/June Beginner Puppy Class - sorry.
Our usual hall was unavailable for our last week, so Archie, Hector, Betsy, Lottie & Izzy brought their families along to the secure field at Dogxercise. We were really lucky with the weather and had a fun class, consolidating everything we'd learned over the previous 5 weeks. 💜💙
I'm hosting a workshop by Laura Carter, author of the book The Vet Says Rest. Spaces available for handlers with their dog and for spectators without their dog.
In this 2.5 hour workshop:
• Discover simple tricks to entertain your dog
• Find out how to stimulate your dog's five senses from the comfort of your home
• Learn the importance of introducing essential equipment to your dog, like a cone or a ramp
• Have fun learning the basics of a new hobby - scent work

I saw a really sad dog this morning.
I watched carefully wondering why the dog looked so depressed. Then I realised he was being ignored.
He was marched up and down while his person was on the phone.
Then when his person put him in the car she just scooped him up.
Never interacted.
Never engaged.
Just moved the dog's body from one place to another.
Didn't even look at him.
Didn't speak to him.
Just put him somewhere and shut the door on him.
Can you imagine living with someone and yet being so isolated.
Looked right through.
Just pulled around.
When your genes and your entire existence has been finely tuned to need interaction.
Engagement.
Partnership.
Can you even imagine living like that?

Adorable Alfie, a 14 week old Cocker Spaniel, joined us in Sunday afternoon Beginner Puppy classes today. He and his lovely family spent some time with me beforehand to catch up on what they missed in week 1. He settled in really well and apparently had a nap as soon as he got home. 🥰

On-lead walks are more enjoyable when your dog has learned the skill of walking with a relaxed lead.
In this 3-week Relaxed Lead Walking course you'll learn techniques to help your dog learn that skill.
The next group class begins on Thursday 7th September at 6pm, and is available to book now. Limited spaces available to allow plenty of space for the dogs and their families to learn.

April's Beginner Puppy Training Class 💜 Clyde the labrador 💙 Cooper the cockapoo 💜 Chester the cocker spaniel 💙 Rhana the lhasa apso 💜 Coby the labrador These pups and their families all did brilliantly in the last five weeks 👏🏻 Hopefully I'll see some of them again to continue their learning in Beyond the Basics classes.
My March Beginner Puppy Training Class 👏🏻🐾
Big thanks to @blacknessvets for taking such good care of my Smokey today when she was in for her dental. Blood test all fine, no extractions needed, scale and polish done. Phew! She's still a bit wide-eyed and wobbly from her anesthetic and her sister is still giving her a wide berth and hissing at her because she smells like the vets. But she's got the appetite of a food obsessed cat who hadn't been fed since bedtime last night. Blackness Vets called me to let me know she was ok and when she would be allowed home, and when I collected her the nurse updated me on how she'd been throughout the day. Thanks to my clients for understanding my reduced availability today. It's such a worry to have a beloved pet go under anesthesia.
