the install for the show has been in full swing the last week, our hands have been dyed green, the work is being hung, we’re covered in pink paint and oh yes we’re in the bog!

To see more and it all in person, come along to the opening of The Grave In Full Vigour THIS FRIDAY November 8th 6-9pm!!!!

You don’t wanna miss it 💓🪦

💫COMING SOON💫

🥚🪦The Grave in Full Vigour🪦🥚

A solo show, publication & collective reading event by shetland-based Artist, Poet & Bog-Witch Belladonna Paloma. The Gallery will turn necropolis-cum-reading room devoted to the divine & abject nature of the trans body. The 5th wound open so wide we can pass through into a space which asks; is this coffin a petri dish, no, a digestive tract or veg patch brimming with mulch & humus for the worms to host their feast upon. A digestive tract for your grief to sit fallow in peristaltic shock.

& your Goddess? She’s caked in s**t & burping on a pile of nails.
Piss-soaked & wrapped in a radiant glow.

& the egg? My oh my the egg. Cracked & revolting - revelatory - so listen close because she has something to say.

Opening on Friday the 8th of November from 6-9pm, you’re all invited to join us & engage in some auto-poetic play by the graveside…🪦⭐️

See you there!!!

🛋️⭐️MEET ONE OF THE ARTISTS - Residence / Residence ⭐️🛋️

Meet Anna Rooney!

Anna is currently one of the artists taking part in the Residence Residence exhibition and residency at Generator!⭐️

Anna Rooney is an artist who has recently graduated with a degree in Textile Design, specialising in knitted textiles. Nature is their main inspiration for their artwork where they highlight the importance of appreciating local environments. Anna’s work is playful and childlike, featuring bright, uplifting colours and bold shapes, often with sculptural elements and mixed-media.

Anna has been using this time at Generator Projects to start a new body of work for a series of small scale quilts. They have mostly produced sketchbook pages where they’ve tried to work more loosely and intuitively, drawing from photos they have taken in their day to day life. In these sketches Anna has tried to focus on the interactions between light and shadow, positive and negative space, and colour. Developments of Annas preliminary drawings has led to some fabric samples featuring embroidery, needle-turned applique and basic patchwork techniques.

We’ve loved getting to know Anna and seeing their work develop over the past few weeks!

Anna’s work can be found here: on Instagram ⭐️

Want to see more of Residence Residence? Well come along to the last viewing TODAY from 12-8pm!🌟 Artwork will be displayed made by the artists who participated in the residency - so come see what they’ve been up to!!!!

🛋️⭐️MEET ONE OF THE ARTISTS - Residence / Residence ⭐️🛋️

Meet Jae Lawson!

Jae is currently one of the artists taking part in the Residence Residence exhibition and residency at Generator!⭐️

Jae Lawson is a visual artist and poet from North Lanarkshire, Scotland. Jae studied BA(Hons) Fine Art at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee, Class of 2024.

Jae works primarily in ceramics, text, and drawing. Normally Jae is inspired by interpersonal connections, however in this project has come to explore connections within the self and body, and with the demands of the world it exists in.

Through this residency, Jae had been working on small and fragmented works, organically exploring the effects of a recent diagnosis on their life, and attempts to return to working and making after a long period of illness.

We’ve loved getting to know Jae and seeing their work develop over the past few weeks! 🌟

Jae’s work can also be found here: .lawson.studio on Instagram, as well as on their website, jaelawsonart.uk ⭐️

🛋️⭐️ MEET ONE OF THE ARTISTS- Residence / Residence ⭐️🛋️

Meet Laura Moorhouse!

Laura is one of the artist currently taking part in the Residence Residence exhibition and residency at Generator 🌟

Laura’s work examines disability and chronic illness, through the lens of crip theory. Laura is particularly interested in soft sculpture, zines, crip time and complicated access. She says her visual work has been described as “having a childlike quality, which I actively bring to my practice to avoid the solemnity that often surrounds portrayals of chronic illness and disability – unwell bodyminds can be bold, joyful and playful.”

⭐️Find out what Laura’s been up to: “ I have been using the residency time to create more soft sculptures - my sick day pals. Since finishing my degree this summer, I’ve spent a lot of time at home, unwell. This can be lonely, at times. I see other chronically ill art people online, who have have pets to keep them company. My tiny flat doesn’t have room for a pet, so I’m making these companions as a substitute. I’ve also been reading more about living and working as a chronically ill/disabled artist; writing from Gabrielle de la Puente (The White P**e) and Abi Palmer (particularly Sanatorium) has been really useful in thinking about art/work/illness/time.”

We’ve really enjoyed getting to know Laura and seeing her work within gen over the past few weeks! 💞⭐️

🌟OPENS TODAY🌟

residence residence is an experimental project looking at entanglements of art, work and leisure, and investigating how blurring the differences between these may offer forms of resistance to the predatory market capitalism of the bourgeois art world.

Or, in less w***y language: What is “being an artist”? What does it mean to pay artists a wage to just “be artists?” What is an art gallery? Are artists workers? What does being a working artist look like? What is the value of art work? How do visitors to nonprofit galleries fit into the art market? How does the current setup of the art world help and hinder art? Who gets to be an artist when art is a “labour of love”?

⭐️Three Dundee-based artists will be paid a wage at union rates to work in one gallery for 37 hours over a three-week period, with no contracted requirement to reach set outcomes for exhibition. The artists will also undertake admin tasks, and will be on display to visitors as they do so. The selected artists are Jae Lawson, Laura Moorhouse and Anna Rooney⭐️

Simultaneously, Generator’s other gallery will house a living room for the city: a comfortable space where visitors are welcomed to linger without the expectation of paying money in a café to justify their existence in a cultural space. Conversely, free food and drink will be available, along with an array of resources about art and work. 🛋️☕️

Visitors will also be free to interact with provided art materials and to contribute to the project through submitting these or admin work. Works by visitors will be hung as part of the exhibition.

residence residence will be open to visitors from Tuesday September 17th to Friday October 4th from 12pm-8pm, Tuesday to Saturday. Each day, an artist will be working in the space.

⭐️The project will end with a closing party on Saturday, October 5th from 6pm-9pm, for which the work the artists have produced will be hung, and a final viewing on Sunday, October 6th from 12pm-8pm.⭐️
