Pearla
One of the stunning XL's Pearla who came to my classes to prepare for the ban. She was a dream to train and doesnt have a bad bone in her body. She was just young and full of beans.
Her owners were previously advised to medicate her to help calm her down which made me sad because she was extremely responsive to the right training. Luckily the didnt take this advice and here she completing her muzzle training. She even had some fun with it on. Shes so sweet and im looking forward to working with her on a one to one basis. Unfortunately I cant do classes with XL Bullys anymore but i can still do one to ones.
Hugo Muzzle Training
Yesterday someone accused me of muzzle training this dog using a prong collar and an E collar ( don't even know how that would even be possible ๐คฃ) and that this dog was "petrified " and "didn't look happy at all "
Here is said dog, Hugo a young, male XL, doing some muzzle conditioning. One for all you body language experts. I'll be posting more on his progress.
I have a few messages in my inbox from people looking for help with their XL's. I'll reply to everyone tomorrow.
Hope you've all had a great weekend ๐พ๐ช
Last night the XL's had their first class to prepare for the ban coming into Scotland.
We kicked off training them loose lead walking and muzzle conditioning.
They were all amazing and it was great to see owners stepping up and doing right by their dogs.
Buddy the Rottie ๐พ
He came into Nikki as a foster with resource guarding issues, common bad habits like that form from previous environments. These types of behaviours are very common when dogs are raised by inexperienced owners/handlers and are another good reason you should think hard before you out dog yourself.
Thankfully this lad fell into the hands of Nikki who has devoted her whole life to the breed and has the handling skills to deal with him.
I came in just as back up as resource guarding should always be approached with caution.
He wasnโt a bad resource guarder, he didnโt guard food or his own toys. It was when he stole an item in particular socks or this toy that he went a bit wild for.
We made him understand that he didnโt need to be so defensive and that good things happen when he co operates.
All four quadrants used properly to achieve amazing results. Heโs doing fab already ๐
One of our dogs from class last night smashing his training with the help of Paddock Farm Pate.
I absolutely love this stuff for training and use it every single day, the dogs also go mad for it. Itโs like doggy crack ๐คฃ
Itโs the perfect high value, healthy treat that isnโt too mushy like other pate so it stays in shape in your treat bag and has over 90% meat content. It also comes in Ostrich which is a novel protein perfect for allergy sufferers.
We stock all flavours of pate at a great price of only ยฃ3 per 400g roll.

This is so fun to teach and takes back end awareness to whole new level.
Weโll be doing more of these at class ๐
Tonight we have a special shout out to Sal, an 18 month old Cane Corso, and his owner Billy who came to class for the first time tonight.
Iโve been working with them on a one to one basis to help with serious reactivity issues Sal had towards people and dogs.
It got to the stage he was being walked at 11pm to avoid all triggers which was only making the matters worse and being 70kg he was hard to manage.
Billyโs hard work at home has been paying off and he worked Sal in the class environment tonight without any issues at all. Sal loved class and smashed it ๐ช๐พ๐ถ

๐พ Parker ๐พ
Poodle x Newfoundland who displayed a lot of common doodle behaviours such as running up to other dogs with zero recall, becoming over aroused and frustrated on lead when passing other dogs.
With weekly sessions and commitment from his owner we had him at the busy Dawson park today where we seen so many tempting opportunities for Parker but he made all the right choices and walked nicely passed dogs on lead when asked to.
We talk about hypocrisy in the Government but what about the hypocrisy in the Force Free Community right now ?
Iโve seen so many people in that industry celebrating and cheering a piece of legislation that approves the use of ;
Citronella collars
electric anti bark collars
electric fencing systems
The use of e collars in army dogs
If your meant to be a โ Force Free โ trainer you wouldnโt be celebrating this in anyway what do ever as itโs only gonna push more use onto these tools that are much less humane than an E Collar and arenโt even recommended by trainers that use E Collars properly.
Did you even read the ban ??

Today we started off working on engagement, lead pressure and some very basic obedience.
She has a long way to go and will be in weekly to improve in all areas.
Dogs like this often come in pulling like this because theyโve never been taught how to respond to lead pressure, teaching this from a young age can prevent this kind of pulling and reduce the stress from walks.
We also need to break handler habits that are often a subconscious factor.
Another dog responding amazingly to the right use of tools and reinforcement.
