An article about neutering from our friends at Cavy Capers.

🐇🐰 Neutering and Spaying 🐰🐇

Why should you neuter/spay rabbits?

🐰 Prevent unwanted pregnancies.

🐰 Rabbits can breed from a very young age, so neutering and spaying is vital to reduce unwanted pregnancies.

🐰Intact male and female rabbits should be separated from 8 weeks old.

🐰Reduce risks of cancer….
Unneutered female rabbits have a high chance of developing uterine cancer, while unneutered males can develop testicular cancer.

🐰Improve behaviour…
Neutering can significantly decrease aggressive behaviors like urine spraying, fighting, and territorial marking in both male and female rabbits.

🐰Improves chances of bonding…
Spaying/neutering allows rabbits to live peacefully together in multi-rabbit households by reducing hormonal conflicts.

🐰Overall health benefits
By eliminating the stress of reproductive cycles, neutering can positively impact a rabbit's overall health and lifespan.

If you’d like to discuss neutering or spaying your rabbit please speak to your Vet or have a chat with Cavy Capers.

An article about vaccinations from our friends at Cavy Capers.

🐰🐇Rabbit Vaccines 🐇🐰

Q - What are rabbits vaccinated against?
*Myxomatosis
*RHD1 (Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease)
*RHD2
*New strain of RHD 2

Q - Who should be vaccinated?

A - All rabbits (both indoor and outdoor rabbits) should be vaccinated. Some people mistakenly believe that indoor rabbits don’t need to be vaccinated. Unfortunately this is not the case, as infections can be brought into the house on footwear, clothing and hay.

Q - How often should rabbits be vaccinated?

A - Rabbits should be vaccinated as babies and then they should receive yearly boosters. At their yearly booster appointment they will also get a health check, which is ideal to help make sure your furry friend is healthy and happy.

Q - My rabbit isn’t up to date on vaccines, what should I do?

A - Call Parkside and make an appointment to have your rabbit’s vaccinations updated.

By vaccinating, you can help contribute to a longer, healthier, happier life for your rabbit.

Once again we're bursting at the seams 😭
In the last week we have had to build extra spaces to accomodate demand. We also still have 10+ animals on the waiting list.

So we're whatever comes after 'full'.

Rescues have two types of 'full'.

The first is when a big surrender arrives and new animals fill all the spaces while they wait for accessments, vaccines, neutering, recovering from surgery etc. While this is heartbreaking, its simply part of the rescue cycle. While it's sad seeing them wait, its a stepping stone.

The second type of 'full' is worse.
The second type is when those enclosures are filled with 'Available for Adoption' animals. Beautiful healthy neutered vaccinated bonded animals just waiting for homes.
Animals who have waited. Waited for the funds for their treatment. Waited for a suitable partner for companionship. Waited to recover post op.
But they're still waiting. And thats a million times harder than the first type of full.

And right now, we're the second type of full.

We have 46 animals waiting for homes.
46 healthy animals living very basic lives in the rescue.

So we're having another Adoption Week.

We will be posting every animal we have available over the coming week.

We're asking everyone
📍to considering adding to their family.
📍to share our posts.
📍to shout as loud as you can about small animal welfare.

We're asking you to help. Because we're at a dead end. We cannot help any more animals until we find homes for those already in our care.

Tilly was in to see vet Catherine this afternoon for her flea & tick injection.

We now have a single injection that provides both flea and tick coverage for a full year.

This is a drug we have used in tablet form for many years now with huge success so it's great to now have this in the form of a single yearly injection.

It’s available on our pet healthcare plans as well so just ask our vets for more information when you're in the surgery.
