Hi everyone, every year daycare makes a small donation to a local dog charity. This year, the Picasso Pups wanted to get involved and after seeing how much you all loved their artwork we will be creating more masterpieces with Christmas in mind.

We have 162, 5” x 7” canvas boards (these are flat and can be fitted into frames) and a rainbow of colours to choose from with some festive touches. You just tell us if you’d like your dog to create one, pick your colours and we’ll do the rest.

These canvases will be for ‘sale’ on a donation basis so you can pay as much or as little as you feel and all profits will be going to Staffie Smiles to help some other pups feel as lucky as ours do.🐾

And that’s a wrap for 2022 🎄

Some of our dogs opened a gift early and released some Christmas magic.

We hope they’ve all brought some home with them and you and your families all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 🥳

‘Twas the fifth of December,
twenty more days to go,
it was wet, it was rainy,
there was no hint of snow.
That pup in the cup,
had a quiet weekend,
With no dogs in the daycare,
He went round the bend.

He went to Santas workshop,
to play tricks on the elves,
he took things that they needed,
hid them high on the shelves.
The elves, they were making,
and wrapping the toys,
that were meant to be going,
to good girls and boys.

That pup could not stand it,
he just wanted more,
he wanted toys to be piled high,
from ceiling to floor.
As the head elf was wrapping,
and taping them tight,
that pup made a racket,
gave the head elf a fright!

She stood up from her station,
investigated the noise,
and that pup took his chance,
He swapped out some cool toys.
In their place he wrapped up,
stuff that no dog would choose,
he wrapped brushes, nail clippers,
and some red high heeled shoes.

The head elf did not notice,
she carried on with her work,
and that pup could do nothing,
but giggle and smirk.
The toys were all loaded,
in Santas’ red sleigh,
delivered and waiting for,
This Christmas Day.

When Lou opened his present,
he was somewhat confused,
he got wipes from the Groom room,
That would never be used.
That Pup in the Cup,
had done it again,
one more present up,
When would it all end?

On December the second,
That Pup on a Cup,
Was refreshed and determined,
And now one more toy up.
He though hard, he thought quick,
Then he grabbed his wee ladder,
To set up his next trick.
He couldn’t be badder.

A wee Christmas tree sat,
In Doggy Daycare reception,
The Pup’s mission was clear,
He must evade all detection.
With one quick diversion,
He slipped through the door,
Then he propped up his ladder,
Between the wee tree and floor.

He climbed up the ladder,
He pulled on the tree,
He then toppled it over,
With a 1, 2 and 3.
He set up a treat trail,
Who would sniff it out first?
Which dog could be coming?
Shh, here comes Gus.

Gus followed the treat trail
Laid out by the pup,
At the end of that trail,
He found the tree, wrong way up!

On the first of December,
As the clock rang out twelve,
A cheeky young fellow,
Half puppy, half elf,
Was thinking up ways,
He could get all the toys,
That should have been going,
To good girls and boys.

He knew of the lists,
Santa Claus made each year
Two lists filled with names……
Wait, He had an idea!
He’d have to think hard
He had plans to think up,
This isn’t Elf on the Shelf,
It’s Pup on a Cup.

The first dog on the nice list
A bully, Bronson by name
Pup thought up a plan,
then made it a game.
Oh look, Doggy lunches,
Just sitting right here,
I’m sure no one would mind,
I’ll just check it’s all clear.

In less then a minute,
All the lunches were gone,
Bronson ate all the treats,
There was nearly a tonne.

One less on the nice list,
An extra toy for the Pup,
‘Christmas Day will be brilliant’,
Thought the Pup on the Cup.

Little Tammy came along for her initial assessment visit today and was an absolute star ⭐️

More terrier puppies please 🙏🏻

Some of the things we look out for during your puppy/dogs visit ⬇️

- How comfortable they are in a new environment with you present.
- How comfortable they are breaking away from you.
- How well they transition into a new area without you present.
- How they perceive different dogs from a distance, through a fence, etc.
- How do they react to potentially unfamiliar noises such as dogs playing, gates, doors, fans, etc.
- How they approach dogs.
- How comfortable they are in the presence of other dogs.
- Their play style and the way other dogs interact with them.
- How they connect with staff.
- How comfortable they are with handling (getting leads/harnesses back on at the end of the visit).

First visits are based around keeping everything low pressure and as undirected as we can. Your dog determines the speed the visit moves at and the number of experiences they will have in their first hour.

Some dogs will breeze through their visit, they will be excited being somewhere new, they won’t notice that you’ve left, they will enjoy meeting different dogs and getting fussed over by staff and, may not want to leave at the end 😄

A lot of dogs return for a second visit so we can make sure your dog will be happy in our environment. We may have noticed nervousness, hesitancy, or a stress behaviour during a portion of their visit and would like to revisit the situation at a later date. We will discuss this with you.

Occasionally, we do find that daycare may not be a suitable environment for some dogs. There is no set reason for this and is entirely dependent on the individual dog. Some dogs struggle in new places, some do not handle separation from their owners well, some do not have experience with dogs or have had bad experiences with dogs and a group of dogs just proves too much. Whatever the reason, we will do what we can, but ultimately, if your dog feels distressed in daycare, we will advise against joining us.

Some things you can do that may help your dog before their visit ⬇️

- Visit different shops and indoor venues. Let your dog sniff and get used to different sounds and smells.
- If you can, ask friends and family to get involved. Get your dog used to good things happening with other people while you’re not there (and it shows you will return).
- Play games involving a ‘place’ or ‘stay’ command.
- Expose your dog to sights and sounds of other dogs (this can be from a distance if you don’t know the dogs/owners).
- Have a reliable home routine for your dog before their visit.

Our last visit of the year is the 30th November so the dogs can relax and enjoy our festive games and we can wind down before the Christmas break 🎄
