Are you planning to travel with your pet? ✈️

Timing is very important so please get in touch with us in plenty of time to arrange the appropriate vaccinations and documents for your pet which can vary depending on your destination.

Instead of the previous pet passport system, pets now need a new document, known as an animal health certificate. Animal health certificates must be signed by an Official Vet within 10 days of travel.

When travelling to an EU country or Northern Ireland, your pet needs:

🐾 a microchip
🐾 a valid rabies vaccination
🐾 an animal health certificate (unless you have a pet passport issued in an EU country or Northern Ireland)
🐾 tapeworm treatment for dogs if you’re travelling directly to Finland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Norway or Malta

Please visit this link to see the current requirements for travel to the EU. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!

Meet Kayleigh ⭐

Hi, I'm Kayleigh and I qualified as an RVN in 2010. At home I have a crazy Petit Basset Griffen Vendeen, who absolutely loves the sound of his own voice, a guinea pig, and a skinny pig as well as 2 beautiful children... there's never a dull moment!!

I have since branched off and followed my passion for rehabilitation in the form of hydrotherapy. I have been doing hydrotherapy now for 10 years, based at our Healthy Pets branch, meeting lots of lovely patients and making friendships with clients over the years. One of the favourite parts of my job is building up relationships with my patients and watching them go through the rehabilitation process, seeing the positive impact it has on them and their lifestyles, but also supporting clients through the process too.

Also part of our amazing Healthy Pets team are Alex, Claire and Nicole. Claire and Alex both qualified as hydrotherapists in 2022, leading lots of patients through the rehabilitation journey, and Nicole has been assisting with hydrotherapy since 2015, helping patients reach their rehabilitation goals and making lots of friends and memories over the years! 🐶🐱

Pictured is Kayleigh and Nicole in the Hydrotherapy tank 😊

IT'S SHOW DAY!!!!!🎉🎉

It's finally here and we can't wait to see you all! The forecast is tremendous so please remember hats and sunsreen🌞

Conditions underfoot are much better than anticipated but there are some squelchy patches so please bear this in mind when selecting your footwear, we'd recommend leaving the flipflops at home!!🩴

Please remember that although most of the vendors stands are able to accept card payments, sometimes the there are issues with the signal for the card machines so please make sure you also bring some cash with you if at all possible💷

As always, if you're bringing a dog, please ensure you keep it on a lead at all times and ensure you clean up after it. There are yellow water buckets dotted around the showfield especially for our canine friends to ensure they keep hydrated in the sunshine🐶

There is a lot going on so make sure you get along early to enjoy as much of it as possible.

We hope you all enjoy a fabulous day and look forward to seeing you soon!!😃

⭐ Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month ⭐

Meet Abigail 👋
I have been working In veterinary for the past 8 years as a VCA. My dream come true! The SVN course is lots of fun but can be a bit challenging working full time and doing college at the same time. I also have my three boys (my fur children) that like to keep me on my toes 24/7 😘. I love all aspects of my job! My favourite part has always been working in wards, helping animals recover from surgery being there when they wake up and nursing them while they are unwell. I love to be the one who’s there for them during these times it’s such a rewarding part of my job. You will always find me giving cuddles or singing songs to them. Every day is different and there is always something new to learn! Couldn’t do it without the support of my colleagues and my clinical coach 😄

Thank you for all your hard work 💗

Meet Melissa ⭐

Hello I'm Melissa 👋

I'm a final year veterinary nursing student at the main Hospital in Dunfermline. I first started my career with Inglis in 2019 as an Animal Care Assistant. I was then given the fantastic opportunity to complete my veterinary nursing diploma which I absolutely love.

I have a real passion for all aspects of my job but I really enjoy patient care within the wards. This includes recovering patients from surgery and caring for poorly inpatients supporting them through their treatment plan and giving TLC during their time with us. 🥰
I look forward to completing my course and further developing my nursing skills to provide the best care for your furry friends. Once I graduate, I hope to continue my nursing career with my Inglis family who have been an amazing support so far guiding me to achieve my goal 👏

Thank you for all your hard work Melissa ❤️

Meet Becca 👋 (You may recognise Becca from the Kinross branch)

Hi I'm Becca. I have been an SVN since September and have enjoyed it thoroughly. Working in practice since 2021. I always knew nursing was what I wanted to do. I am enjoying the extra responsibilities, learning more and being involved with face to face consults with clients and their pets.
I have horses at home so I am still unsure if equine nursing is something I would like to specialise in the future. But I do also enjoy working with small animals. My favourite aspects of studying to be a nurse are definitely learning on the job, everyday you learn something new and no two days are the same. I can't wait to work through the rest of my exams and qualify one day!! 🥰

Thank you for all your hard work Becca ❤️

Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month ⭐

Today we would like to introduce you all to Jess ⭐

Hi I'm Jess 😊
Being a Veterinary Nurse was always my dream job. Having the opportunity to progress at work from being a CCA to ACA and now following my dream as an SVN is amazing! Working full time alongside a busy course can be intense but the help from my colleagues and gaining experience from working in a busy Hospital helps massively (the animal cuddles help too!🐶🐱)
I have enjoyed my time as a SVN so far and can't wait to continue learning new skills 🥰

Thanks for all your hard work Jess ❤️

Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month ⭐

Our nursing team is made up of Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVN), Student Veterinary Nurses (SVN) and Veterinary Care Assistants (VCA) 🩺

Each role has their own special part in your pets’ journey with us 🥰

This week we will be introducing you to our five employed SVNs who are completing their training with us. They all worked as VCAs before starting their journey to progress to RVNs. It is a great opportunity that we can offer.

The training involves; going to college for blocks throughout their studies, completing assignments and written and practical exams. This is all along working full time too! 🩺 All their training must be completed with a qualified Vet or Nurse observing them and be completed at an approved training practice. To be an approved training practice we must meet all the RCVS requirements for training veterinary nurses. This involves passing regular inspections by the course organiser. The training takes 2.5 years to complete. We also have visiting SVNs who are enrolled in the college or degree course and come to us for placement throughout their course.

Melissa and Sara are in their second year of training and recently completed their last exam! ⭐ They are based mainly in our hospital in Dunfermline but help at the branches too.
Becca is our first year Student in our Kinross branch. You will always find her smiling and happy to help 😃
Abi and Jess are in their first year of training and also based mainly in our hospital in Dunfermline. They have their next exam soon and we wish them lots of luck for it ❤️

Today, we're thrilled to shine the spotlight on Sara! ⭐

Hello 👋🏼 my name is Sara,
I’m a Student Veterinary Nurse heading into my final year of my course at SRUC Oatridge. I’ve been with Inglis Vets for 3 years and I’m thrilled to graduate next year and become a Registered Veterinary Nurse. I am extremely passionate and love working with such a fantastic team in providing the best care for our patients. I have the benefit of working with and learning from a group of remarkable Vets and Nurses from both a surgical aspect and in-patient care and recovery. I have a passion for animal care and eagerly anticipate a progressive career both learning and sharing my experience 😊

Thank you for all your hard work Sara 💗

Cat behaviour 🐱

I’m Lynette Bonnema, I started my nursing journey 25 years ago now (yikes!😆) .
I have always loved all things feline and when the ISFM launched their feline nursing diploma I jumped at the opportunity! I was in the first group to get the Diploma in Feline Nursing as well as the advanced certificate in Feline Behaviour a few years later.

This does not make me a certified behaviourist but it does mean I can help explain certain behaviours that may concerns you. I can help with the little things like pee-ing outside the litter tray or introducing the cat to the baby etc.

If you need any advice regarding behaviour, want to talk about your cat’s diagnosis or even just want to chat about how great your cat is give I'm here to help! 🥰

You can make a telemed appointment with me by contacting the Client Care team on 01383 722818 📞
Or send an email to - [email protected] 📧

Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month! 😊

At Inglis Vets we have a team of 28 Veterinary Nurses across our hospital and branches. You have hopefully met a few of them on your visits 🥰

Many of our nurses have completed additional certificates in various areas and two of our nurses are due to start certificates soon. These topics include -

🩺 Emergency and critical care (ECC)
🩺 Anaesthesia
🩺 Behaviour
🩺 Feline medicine
🩺 Surgical nursing

Completion of a certificate involves additional training and completion of assignments and exams. ✏️

Three of our nurses have completed the ECC certificate. This course is provided by Vets Now and is a recognised qualification completed over 18 months which helps develop skills when dealing with emergencies and caring for critically ill pets that may present in the veterinary practice. This course requires modules to be completed every 2-4 weeks and a final written and practical exam.

Pictured is Trish, one of our dedicated night nurses who has completed the ECC certificate and feels it helps her greatly in her role dealing with emergencies out of hours. 🏥

We're celebrating International Nurses Day today! Thank you to all our veterinary nurses for everything you do, we couldn't do it without you!

10/05/2024

Good Morning Lovely People.

Happy Friday!

Serious post...The HEAT.

please note it's the temperature that causes heat stroke not the sun itself so it doesn't matter if the sun is covered by clouds heat stroke can occur.

Providing shade, clean water and even them going into water to cool down still may not be enough to prevent tragedy.

Signs of heat stroke:
Slowing down/stopping.
vacant/dazed appearance.
slower response when called.
Ataxia (walking like drunk, staggering)
panting.
Seizures (fits, legs paddling, eyes flickering).

Higher risk for those who are brachycephalic, who are overweight or have a medical condition particularly heart related.

Unfortunately, heat stroke can be fatal.
Please don't risk it.
Sadly, we (and our colleagues in practices all over the country) see it every year.

Speak to everyone who cares for your furry friends and let's enjoy the weather safely.

Over the course of this month we'll be spreading the word about the amazing work our vet nurses do 👏

Meet Taylor 🩺

Hello, my name is Taylor and I have been a qualified Veterinary Nurse at Inglis Vets for the past seven years, having started my nursing training in 2013. After rescuing my own troublesome dog six years ago I developed a keen interest in canine behaviour and decided to take the leap back into study. After completing my certificate two months ago, I am now in the process of getting my own canine behaviour clinics up and running within Inglis vets, hoping to take on a wide range of canine behavioural cases and work with owners to solve or improve these problems as best as we possibly can ❤️🐾

05/05/2024

We have had an entire male black cat handed in to our Dunfermline surgery. Not microchipped.
He was found in the Campbell Street area of Dunfermline. Please call 01383 722818 if you think he may be your cat.
