Winter can be tough on our horses, but with these feeding tips, you can keep them happy and healthy through the chill:

🔵 𝗙𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗲 = 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗺𝘁𝗵 🐴 Did you know hindgut fermentation produces heat as it digests fiber? Boost their hay intake to help keep them warm naturally. 🌾

🔵𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴💧 Check drinkers and buckets regularly to ensure they’re not frozen. Dehydration risks increase in cold weather!

🔵 𝗛𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀🥣 Horses may drink 6–14% less water in colder temps. Bluegrass Turmash, made with plenty of water, is a great way to encourage hydration.

🔵 𝗕𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘆 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘀🌱 Frost increases sugar levels in grass, which can be risky for laminitic horses and ponies. Avoid turnout when temperatures drop below 5°C.

✅ Assess body condition score (target 5-6).
✅ Provide a balanced diet with essential trace minerals (copper, zinc, selenium).
✅ Supplement the diet with marine-derived omega-3s (DHA/EPA) as found in Mare Prepare at least 60 days before breeding.
✅ Encourage weight gain for underweight mares to improve conception rates.
